This paper experimentally demonstrated a ring cavity multi-wavelength Brillouin fiber laser employing fiber Bragg grating (FBG) that operated in the C-band region. The FBG plays a significant role to reflect signals and filter selected wavelengths. A number of generated Brillouin Stokes (BS) signals and tuning range ability were investigated. A 9[Formula: see text]km length of single mode fiber was utilized to provide a Brillouin gain medium for generating stimulated Brillouin scattering effect. In this work, at optimum output coupling ratio of 90% and Brillouin pump (BP) wavelength of 1550[Formula: see text]nm, up to a maximum of 26 BS signals were recorded by injecting 63.1[Formula: see text]mW of amplified BP powers. The BS signals were also tunable within the ranges of 1544–1556[Formula: see text]nm in accordance with the FBG properties at 3[Formula: see text]dBm bandwidth of 5[Formula: see text]nm.

A ring cavity multiwavelength Brillouin erbium-doped optical fiber laser (EDFL)based on the stimulated brillouin scattering effects and linear gain mechanism of erbium-doped fiber was demonstrated, in which single mode fiber was used as Brillouin gain medium and the Stokes signal was amplified by using the erbium-doped fiber amplifier, so that the laser can produce a stable multi-wavelength output at room temperature. Through the study and analysis of the position of the circular and coupler and the access mode of the coupler, we found that they both had influence on the output of the brillouin-erbium fiber laser. Then we have done some experiments at the Brillouin pump power of 14 dBm and the 980 nm pump power of 23 dBm, and single mode fiber length of 10km. The results showed that the access mode of the coupler affects the output of the brillouin-erbium fiber laser obviously. The detailed test results and the corresponding explanation were given.

A tunable multi-wavelength fiber laser is proposed and demonstrated based on two main elements: an erbium-doped fiber ring cavity and compact intermodal fiber structure. The modal fiber interferometer is fabricated using the cost-effective arc splice technique between conventional single-mode fiber and microfiber. This optical fiber structure acts as a wavelength filter, operated in reflection mode. When the refractive index and temperature variations are applied over the fiber filter, the ring laser cavity provides several quad-wavelength laser spectra. The multi-wavelength spectra are tuned into the C-band with a resolution of 0.05 nm. In addition, the spectra are symmetric with minimal power difference between the lasing modes involved, and the average of the side mode suppression ratio is close to 37 dB. This laser offers low-cost implementation, low wavelength drift, and high power stability, as well as an effect of easy controllability regarding tuned multi-wavelength.
