We have considered two configurations of cantilever beam for characterization of rheological properties (density and viscosity) of viscous material. Both the beams are made of thin steel foils, having different free end condition. The beams were vibrated in various viscous fluids such as water and lubrication oils under sweeping modes, and the frequency response of the beam was measured using Polytec laser vibrometer. For both beam configurations, the resonance frequency decreased while the width of the resonance peak (related to Q-factor) increased with increasing viscosity and density. Thus, the viscosity and the density of a liquid can be determined simultaneously using the experimentally measured resonance frequency and peak width.

Microresonator-based lasers in the two-micron range are interesting for extensive applications. Tm3+ ions provide high gain; therefore, they are promising for laser generation in the two-micron range in various matrices. We developed a simple theoretical model to describe Tm-doped glass microlasers generating in the 1.9–2 μm range with in-band pump at 1.55 μm. Using this model, we calculated threshold pump powers, laser generation wavelengths and slope efficiencies for different parameters of Tm-doped tellurite glass microspheres such as diameters, Q-factors, and thulium ion concentration. In addition, we produced a 320-μm tellurite glass microsphere doped with thulium ions with a concentration of 5·1019 cm−3. We attained lasing at 1.9 μm experimentally in the produced sample with a Q-factor of 106 pumped by a C-band narrow line laser.

The process of nonlinear resonant excitation of ion oscillations in a linear trap is studied. There is still no detailed simulation of the resonance peak in the literature. We propose to use the excitation contour to describe the collective ion resonance. The excitation contour is a resonant mass peak obtained by the trajectory method with the Gaussian distribution of the initial coordinates and velocities. The following factors are considered: excitation time, low order hexapole and octopole harmonics with amplitudes A3 and A4, the depth of the initial ion cloud position. These multipoles are used for selective ion ejection from linear ion trap. All these factors affect the ion yield and the shape of the contours. Obtained data can be useful for control of such processes as ion fragmentation, ion isolation, ion activation, and ion ejection. Simulated resonance peaks are important for the theoretical description of the ion collective nonlinear resonances.

AbstractSpectral Amplitude Coding-Optical Codes Division Multiple Access (SAC-OCDMA) is a future multiplexing technique that witnessed a dramatic attraction for eliminating the problems of the internet in optical network field such as multiple-user access and speed’s growth of the files or data traffic. In this research article, the performance of SAC-OCDMA system based on two encoding–decoding multidiagonal (MD) and Walsh Hadamard (WH) codes is enhanced utilizing three different schemes of dispersion compensating fiber (DCF): pre-, post- and symmetrical compensation. The system is simulated using Optisystem version 7.0 and Optigrating version 4.2. The performance of the proposed system is specified in terms of bit error rate (BER), Q-factor and eye diagram. It has been observed that the compensated system based on MD code is performs much better compared to the system based on WH code. On the other hand, the compensated SAC-OCDMA system with symmetrical DCF has the lowest values of BER and largest values of Q-factor, so it is considered the best simulated scheme contrasted with pre- and post-DCF.

AbstractIn this work, we study and analyze the performance of Raman + Erbium-Ytterbium codoped fiber hybrid optical amplifier (HOA) for an ultradense wavelength division multiplexing (UD-WDM) system having 100 channels. The system has been investigated considering initial values of channel spacing and data rate of 0.1 nm (12.5 GHz) and 100 GB/s, respectively. Initially, the two important WDM system parameters—wavelength and channel spacing—have been selected and then optimization of the proposed HOA has been performed in terms of EYDFA length, pump power and Er+ concentration to achieve higher values of average gain, Q-factor and lower gain variation ratio. The optimized configuration of the HOA results in the achievement of higher value of average gain, Q-factor and gain variation ratio of 47 dB, 14 and 0.14, respectively, which confirms its viability for UD-WDM system applications.

AbstractAim and scope of this study is to simulate the performance signature of optical inter satellite links based booster Erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) and receiver preamplifiers. The study is simulated to demonstrated the effect of changing the propagation distances between satellites spacing based on the booster EDFA and receiver preamplifiers. Signal power amplitude, Max. Q factor, and min bit error rate are investigated against the input power variations.
