In this paper, the bandwidth density of misaligned free space optical interconnects (FSOIs) system with and without coding under a fixed bit error rate is considered. In particular, we study the effect of using error correction codes of various codeword lengths on the bandwidth density and misalignment tolerance of the FSOIs system in the presence of higher order modes. Moreover, the paper demonstrates the use of the fill factor of the detector array as a design parameter to optimize the bandwidth density of the communication. The numerical results demonstrate that the bandwidth density improves significantly with coding and the improvement is highly dependent on the used codeword length and code rate. In addition, the results clearly show the optimum fill factor values that achieve the maximum bandwidth density and misalignment tolerance of the system.

<span>High-speed Terahertz communication systems has recently employed orthogonal frequency division multiplexing approach as it provides high spectral efficiency and avoids inter-symbol interference caused by dispersive channels. Such high-speed systems require extremely high-sampling <br /> time-interleaved analog-to-digital converters at the receiver. However, timing mismatch of time-interleaved analog-to-digital converters significantly causes system performance degradation. In this paper, to avoid such performance degradation induced by timing mismatch, we theoretically determine maximum tolerable mismatch levels for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing communication systems. To obtain these levels, we first propose an analytical method to derive the bit error rate formula for quadrature and pulse amplitude modulations in Rayleigh fading channels, assuming binary reflected gray code (BRGC) mapping. Further, from the derived bit error rate (BER) expressions, we reveal a threshold of timing mismatch level for which error floors produced by the mismatch will be smaller than a given BER. Simulation results demonstrate that if we preserve mismatch level smaller than 25% of this obtained threshold, the BER performance degradation is smaller than 0.5 dB as compared to the case without timing mismatch.</span>

Abstract A circuit-simulation-based method is used to determine the thermally-induced bit error rate of superconducting Single Flux Quantum logic circuits. Simulations are used to evaluate the multidimensional Gaussian integral across noise current sources attached to the active devices. The method is data-assisted and has predictive power. Measurement determines the value of a single parameter, effective noise bandwidth, for each error mechanism. The errors in the distributed networks of comparator-free Reciprocal Quantum Logic nucleate across multiple Josephson junctions, so the effective critical current is about three times that of the individual devices. The effective noise bandwidth is only 6%–23% of the junction plasma frequency at a modest clock rate of 3.4 GHz, which is 1% of the plasma frequency. This analysis shows the ways measured bit error rate comes out so much lower than simplistic estimates based on isolated devices.

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) as a supportive technology for aiding downlink non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) can enhance the bit error rate (BER) performance. In this paper, a novel BER-aware reflecting elements allocation (REA) on an RIS is proposed to maintain the BER order among paired RIS-NOMA users. The RIS REA is useful for minimizing the average user BER, ompared with a system that allocates the same number of elements to all users. Additionally, the Ricean fading is considered instead of Rayleigh fading as it is more practical and general. Furthermore,an REA optimization objective function for equalizing the user BER is proposed. In order to solve the problem, a modified exhaustive search is proposed to reduce complexity. The distribution of the objective function is observed first; subsequently, the exhaustive search range is determined. Both the analytical and simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can minimize the average user BER.

A recently developed adaptive channel equalizer driven by a so-called Uni-Cycle Genetic Algorithm (UCGA) is examined in the paper. The authors consider different initialization strategies of the iterative process and compare UCGA against the reference Recursive Least Squares (RLS) algorithm in terms of Bit Error Rate (BER) vs. Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) performance and convergence rate of an adaptive channel equalizer. The results display a reasonable performance gain of UCGA over RLS for most of wireless channel models studied in the paper. Additionally, UCGA is capable of boosting the equalizer convergence. Thus, it can be considered a promising candidate for the future adaptive wireless channel equalizer.

Long-range (LoRa) communication has attracted much attention recently due to its utility for many Internet of Things applications. However, one of the key problems of LoRa technology is that it is vulnerable to noise/interference due to the use of only up-chirp signals during modulation. In this paper, to solve this problem, unlike the conventional LoRa modulation scheme, we propose a modulation scheme for LoRa communication based on joint up- and down-chirps. A fast Fourier transform (FFT)-based demodulation scheme is devised to detect modulated symbols. To further improve the demodulation performance, a hybrid demodulation scheme, comprised of FFT- and correlation-based demodulation, is also proposed. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated through extensive simulation results. Compared to the conventional LoRa modulation scheme, we show that the proposed scheme exhibits over 3 dB performance gain at a bit error rate of 10−4.

Abstract In this paper, a 5-Gbps serial link transmitter has been designed for monolithic active pixel sensor. The serial link is designed in a commercial 130-nm CMOS technology with a power supply of 1.2 V. The transmitter consists of a 16b/20b encoder, a three-stage 20:1 serializer core, the CML driver with pre-emphasis function, and a high-speed receiver to deal with the external clock. The root mean square jitter of this serial link transmitter is 2.2 ps, indicating a bit error rate of 1 × 10−14. This paper will discuss the design and performance of this serial link transmitter.

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) contribute high data rates in current as well as future wireless communication systems but it aches from high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR). But this high PAPR makes the High-Power Amplifier (HPA) complex which increases the cost of it and leads to the drawbacks like Inter Carrier Interference (ICI) and rise in out of band radiation. Even though many techniques are there to decrease the complexity of HPA by reducing the PAPR, Selected Mapping (SLM) and the Partial Transmit Sequence (PTS) provides less PAPR with low complexity. In this paper, both PTS and SLM are combined with Discrete Sine Transform (DST) and their PAPR and efficiencies are also compared with OFDM signal. The proposed hybrid DST-PTS and DST-SLM provides less PAPR compared to OFDM, SLM and PTS techniques with low complexity. Also, the bit error rate for DST-SLM and DST-PTS techniques are compared for different values of SNR. In future wireless communication systems, these proposed techniques can be used as they provide less bit error rate and less PAPR with low complexity
