One of the trump cards of digital educational games is their enormous intrinsic motivational potential. Although learning game design is often understood on a one-fits-all level, the actual motivational strength of an educational game strongly depends on the individual learners, their very specific goals, preferences, abilities, strength and weakness, personality, and experiences with gaming. Considering motivation being a fragile and constantly changing state, it is important to continuously assess learning and gaming processes and the oscillations of motivation and immersion within a game. With this premise in mind, the authors developed a psycho-pedagogical approach to a non-invasive embedded assessment of motivational states and learning progress, feeding into a dynamic, ontology-driven learner (and gamer) model. To evaluate the approach, the demonstrator games were subject to intensive quantitative and qualitative experimental research. Results show that a meaningful personalization and an individual support are key factors of the success of learning games.

Healthcare industry is undergoing changes at a tremendous rate due to healthcare innovations. Predictive analytics is increasingly being used to diagnose the patient’s ailments and provide actionable insights into already existing healthcare data. The paper looks at a decision support system for determining the health status of the foetus from cardiotographic data using deep learning neural networks. The foetal health records are classified as normal, suspect and pathological. As the multiclass cardiotographic datset of the foetus shows a high degree of imbalance a weighted deep neural network is applied. To overcome the accuracy paradox due to the multiclass imbalance, relevant metrics such as the sensitivity, specificity, F1 Score and Gmean are used to measure the performance of the classifier rather than accuracy. The metrics are applied to the individual classes to ensure that the positive cases are identified correctly. The weighted DNN based classifier is able to classify the positive instances with Gmean score of 91% which is better than than the SVM classifier.

The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics needs the individual support of two groups of teachers of mathematics who are not members. The first group consists of those teachers who, according to their own testimony, have never heard of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics or The Mathematics Teacher, to say nothing of the yearbooks published annually by the Council. If anyone doubts that the situation is serious, let him travel about the country and talk to groups of teachers. It will soon be obvious that some vigorous missionary work needs to be done. Surely no meeting of mathematics teachers of any importance should be held anywhere without someone's giving at least a short description of the work that the Council is trying to do and what a teacher needs to do to become a member of the organization. If reports that come to the office of The Mathematics Teacher are true, many meetings of mathematics teachers are held and not one word is said about the magazine or the yearbooks, and no one is urged to join the Council. The office of The Mathematics Teacher will gladly send subscription blanks describing the work of the Council to anyone who is interested enough in the work we are trying to do to write us about them.

Rehabilitation counselors usually focus their efforts upon the individual client. They fail to view him or her as part of a social network -- the family. Disability causes economic, social and emotional changes within the family. These changes may upset family stability and inhibit client adjustment and rehabilitation. The family must be viewed as a vital support system for the client, and their impact on rehabilitation should be evaluated. When it is necessary, counselors must design ways to intervene with the family. Family adjustment and treatment are rehabilitation issues, and they deserve consideration in the rehabilitation process.

Abstract The Warning Decision Support System–Integrated Information (WDSS-II) is the second generation of a system of tools for the analysis, diagnosis, and visualization of remotely sensed weather data. WDSS-II provides a number of automated algorithms that operate on data from multiple radars to provide information with a greater temporal resolution and better spatial coverage than their currently operational counterparts. The individual automated algorithms that have been developed using the WDSS-II infrastructure together yield a forecasting and analysis system providing real-time products useful in severe weather nowcasting. The purposes of the individual algorithms and their relationships to each other are described, as is the method of dissemination of the created products.

This descriptive study aims to identify the relationship between the principal leadership and motivation among the national school teachers in the town of Nibong Tebal, Penang, Malaysia. A total of 283 teachers via random sampling method were chosen from twenty-one national school in the district of Seberang Perai Selatan, Penang. The questionnaires constructed by Leithwood and Jantzi (1999) and adapted by Anandan (2011) have been used to measure the principal transformational leadership. The questionnaire of Teacher Motivation Questionnaire by Chung (2012) was used to measure work motivation among teachers. The findings presented that the transformational leadership in the teacher's perspective is very high while the work motivational level among the teachers is high as well. The findings show that there are significant differences in both leadership style and teacher motivation towards teachers’ gender. Relationship analysis also indicated that there was a significant positive correlation between transformational leadership and teachers’ work motivation. Regression analysis also displayed that the best predictor of teachers’ motivation is the individual support in transformational leadership. In conclusion, this study recommends that principals should be competent in applying transformational leadership to improve teachers' innovation in accordance with the school suitability and the needs of the situation.
