At present, students major in photo electricity information science and engineering, measurement and control technology and instrumentation of colleges and universities are not interested in the compulsory courses which require higher theoretical basis. And teaching efficiency of such courses is bad. Aiming at the issue, we put forward some important measures on how to motivate students’ interest and improve the teaching efficiency of compulsory courses of such majors with a combination of course: Laser Principle and Application. From the aspect of teachers, a teacher shall accumulate rich application examples in various fields and prepare lessons efficiently. It is a precondition for improving compulsory course teaching efficiency. It is also effective guarantee to carry out vivid classroom teaching with a combination of cutting-edge technological development. Besides, it is fundamental guarantee for a teacher to bring in diversification means in the big data era and adopt advanced teaching methods. From the aspect of students, rich learning interest and positive learning attitude are the fundamental power to improve compulsory course teaching efficiency. In addition, necessary engineering practice ability cultivation is the fundamental goal.

The rising popularity of high-immersion media has found its way to educational use cases, but such media have not yet been extensively evaluated in their ability to provide fully featured study abroad experiences. As recent events have catapulted virtual study abroad programs to the forefront, and as universities seek to build attractive and effective programs, the necessity of systems that provide immersion and student engagement has become apparent. Using the new concept of Dual-Frame System Design, this paper seeks to find if design thinking methodologies can meet these needs while maintaining system reliability, flexibility, and ease of use. Using off-the-shelf components, including a 360° video camera, smartphones, and personal computers, a system was created and tested through a mixed-methods approach based on a user study of 25 US college students. The results of this research may be useful in the creation of high-immersion virtual study abroad experiences, as well as advancing the interdisciplinary frameworks necessary to make these systems broadly available.

The horrendous situation in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria is gradually producing a rich and enduring literature, which paints a vivid picture of the trauma of living in that part of the world. Playwrights, poets, dramatists and literary critics have all lent their contributions in a determined effort at speaking up against the enormity of the environmental degradation in the region; a tragedy brought about by the insensitive exploitation of the region’s natural resources by multinational oil corporations. This study seeks to examine Kaine Agary’s perspective towards the problem as captured in her fictional work, Yellow-Yellow, with focus on the heavy toll it takes on the woman. The dilemma of being caught in the web of either a victim or a volunteer, compels the woman to either dependency or independence. Thus, the paper concludes by making a case for economic independence and argues that it is the surest security for women, especially, the Niger Delta woman.

Bullying issues occur among adolescents and young adults globally, however, it does not get enough scholarly attention in mainland China (Zhou et al., 2013). This article aims to explore the motives and types of bullying through two cases: one in a high school setting, and the other in a college/university campus in the mid-eastern area of China. Participants included 315 senior high sophomores and 265 freshmen university students. Students completed a questionnaire reporting their bullying experience as witness, victim, or/and perpetrator, as well as their definition of bullying behaviors. 258(81.90%) senior high and 239(90.18%) undergraduate participants had witnessed bullying behaviors before. While 199(63.18%) senior high and 175(66.10%) undergraduate participants reported as bullying victims. The most-reported bullying behavior was verbal bullying, most bullying incidents happened in a classroom, and were inflicted by their peers. Moreover, the researchers explored the motives behind the bullying behavior. The findings help deepen our understanding of bullying epidemics in China educational settings and have implications on preventing the problems and improving the campus climate.

This action research study used qualitative and quantitative methods to investigate students’ performance in assessments and their perceptions and experiences with the use of a constructivist blended approach to teach secondary school geography. The constructivist blended model which used the 5-E strategy (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate) informed teaching and assessment. Methods of data collection were test scores, an open-ended questionnaire, and a focus group interview.Findings suggest that although students’ performance in the assessment and their perceptions and experiences of the constructivist blended classroom strategy were generally positive, several students felt challenged by its use. Students participated minimally in online discussions, and few read online resources. Furthermore, classroom discussions were still mostly teacher directed as many students experienced a high level of fear and anxiety with in-class presentations. A reliance on educators as the main source of knowledge persisted, with reluctance by some to assume an independent role in their learning. We conclude that although students generally approved of the strategy, and performed better in the assessments, their experiences of schooling in an authoritarian, post-colonial education system challenged its effective use.

Learning burnout circumstances appear commonly in the process of English learning. The current research investigates the features of learning burnout of English and a non-English major junior student from three dimensions, including exhaustion, cynicism and decreased professional self-efficacy. Results find that, firstly, these two groups of participants hold a similar degree of learning burnout, while non-English major participants show more individual variability of the learning burnout situation. Based on Krashen’s Input hypothesis and Affective Filter hypothesis, there exist differences and similarities of reasons for participants’ learning burnout. The high degree of learning burnout of these two groups is influenced by the choice of expected jobs as well as the sense of inferiority caused because of peer pressure. Furthermore, learning burnout of English major students is more influenced by teachers, having higher expectations for comprehensible and sufficient input. Therefore, teachers should pay attention to students’ learning burnout situation and understand the specific needs and practical condition of junior students.
