Many teachers have various problems in finding solutions to their students’ problems in the classroom. One of the challenges that teachers face is to make decisions about how to teach and manage students’ behavior. Due to research to practice gap, finding appropriate interventions and implementing them in the classroom might be difficult for teachers. Evidence – based practices (EBPs) are offered to close the gap between research and practice. The purpose of this study was to discuss how EBPs are determined and to provide practitioners guidance to implement them in their classrooms. Barriers to implementing EBPs and resources for EBPs were also discussed.

Quantitative methods remain the fundamental approach to knowledge generation and hypothesis testing, but in approaches to data analysis there is substantial evidence of a gap between what is optimal and what is typical. It is clear that diffusion and dissemination alone are not maximally effective at improving data analytic practices in clinical psychological science. Amid declines in quantitative psychology training, and growing demand for advanced quantitative methods, applied researchers are increasingly called upon to conduct and evaluate research using methods in which they lack expertise. This “research-to-practice” gap in which rigorously developed and empirically supported quantitative methods are not applied in practice has received little attention. In this article, we describe how implementation science, which aims to reduce the research-to-practice gap in health care, offers a promising set of methods for closing the gap for quantitative methods. By identifying determinants of practice (i.e., barriers and facilitators of change), implementation strategies can be selected to increase adoption and high-fidelity application of new quantitative methods to improve scientific inferences and policy and practice decisions in clinical psychological science.

Abstract The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic represents a global crisis that has received extraordinary response from healthcare workers and scientists. One critical but potentially overlooked field in a pandemic is implementation science—the study of methods to reduce the research-to-practice gap. In this Viewpoint, we discuss the important role of implementation science during this and future pandemics and highlight considerations to maximize the utility of implementation research.

Purpose The purpose of this article is to outline how implementation science can contribute to the advancement of communication sciences and disorders through its impact on both clinical research and clinical practice. Implementation science's pertinent definitions and history are discussed. Then, information is highlighted pertaining to the position of implementation science within the larger realm of clinical practice research. An exemplar study is reviewed to inform clinical researchers in communication sciences and disorders. Conclusion The importance of implementation science is emphasized by outlining ways that speech-language pathologists and audiologists can use implementation science to both inform their clinical practice and contribute to the evidence base of the disciplines.
