ABSTRACT Background/Objectives Myoepithelial carcinomas are uncommon neoplasms that account for about 10% of all myoepitheliomas. The invasiveness varies from a locally aggressive to highly metastatic tumor which may arise de novo or in a pleomorphic adenoma. Myoepitheliomas arise from myoepithelial cells lacking ductal differentiation which exhibit both epithelial and smooth muscle cell elements. Case report We report a case of palatal swelling excised 4 years back, as pleomorphic adenoma, which later recurred as malignant myoepithelial carcinoma expleomorphic adenoma of the palate. CECT of the paranasal air sinuses did not show any bony invasion of the hard palate. So he was given radical radiotherapy with concurrent chemotherapy but after 3 years developed recurnce and metastasis to the skin and the lungs. The patient was referred to oral chemotherapy on a palliative basis. Conclusion Malignant myoepithelial carcinoma expleomorphic adenoma of the hard palate is a highly aggressive rare tumor of the hard palate. Radical management with surgery and adjuvant chemoradiotherapy improves survival in these patients. Followup with metastatic workup should be accurate as the tumor is highly aggressive with poor prognosis. AbstractBenign salivary gland tumours in childhood are rare. We present a case of a pleomorphic adenoma arising in a minor salivary gland within the hard palate, review the literature and discuss the diagnostic and therapeutic features of the condition.

In several mammals, a direct connection between the nasal cavity and the oral cavity is a common finding. The structure is named the nasopalatine duct (NPD). It has been hypothesized to be functional in terms of transportation of odorants from the oral cavity to the nasal cavity. In humans, the NPD exists during embryological development. The connection between the nasopalatine infundibulum and the incisive fossa is typically closed at the time of birth. We present the case of a 24-year-old man who presented with a persistent NPD. By means of a thin, soft tube, it was possible to probe the NPD. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a bony gap between the hard palate and the alveolar process of the maxillary bone with a length of 16 mm and a width of 6 mm. In light of the literature of the past 500 years, this represents a rare finding of a persistent NPD.
