In the course of acmeological development, transition of an individual from adaptation to preadaptive activity takes place. Thanks to preadaptivity, a person has new opportunities for the development of such features of his personality that help to overcome various crisis and uncertain situations. In such conditions, the system of personal senses becomes an integral regulator of life activity. The state of integrity of this system shows the possible ways of raising a person above self-actualization as a result of self realization in reality. Self-transcendence follows self-actualization and means going beyond the present self to fulfill the highest purpose. Self-transcendence is based on the process of overcoming the existential crisis of finiteness of one's being, as a result of which the system of personal senses gets restarted and shifts to creating cultural benefits for other people. Self-transcendence contains such existential attributes as experience of creative insights, preservation of subjectivity, ability to overcome existential crises in a positive way, tolerance to uncertainty, creative thinking, freedom in taking responsibility in search for one's own destiny

While studying sense-making regulation, we have previously elaborated on a basic personological model based on dual relations of personal traits. Their representation in the form of an ensemble of bipolar semantic scales' shows two strategies for organization of the notional sphere – positive development or degradation of the personality (Godunov, 2017). This approach reduces all the variety of options for personal development to a pair of oppositions. The purpose of this article is to theoretically substantiate the transition from the dual to trinal model of sense-making strategies and their description. The genesis of personal traits and meanings that determine them is examined from trialectic viewpoint on the basis of the three-fold sense-making strategies. This methodological approach allows carrying out multifactor diagnostics and qualitative interpretation of various states of personal value-semantic sphere which simulates behavior patterns in various life situations. This helps one to realize the peculiarities of one’s being and otherness as conditions of spiritual self-improvement in the way of self-transcendence

The global COVID-19 pandemic has triggered a wide variety of psychological crises worldwide. In order to respond rapidly and efficiently to the complex challenges, mental health professionals are required to adopt a multidimensional and integrative view. Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) founded by Albert Ellis promotes rationality and self-acceptance. Logotherapy, pioneered by Viktor Frankl potentiates meaning and resilience. Both approaches are complementary and mutually enriching. The goal of this paper is to propose an integrative model of “optimal sense-making,” a concept that combines both rationality and meaning, as well as the role of self-transcendence and healthy negative emotions. The model offers a theoretical and clinical foundation for efficient and effective psychological intervention plans for those affected by the pandemic. Along with theoretical background, illustrating case studies are presented to support potential application of the integrative model to affected individuals as well as the work of first-line health professionals during these times of pandemic. Implications are considered for utilizing theoretical and applied insights from the model to cultivate resilience in face of adversity and suffering.

Abstract. The study examines the relationship between a categorical and a dimensional personality assessment instrument in patients with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). A total of 162 CFS patients were included in the study (91.4% women; mean age 47.5 years). All subjects completed the Spanish versions of the Personality Diagnostic Questionnaire-4+ (PDQ-4+) and the Temperament and Character Inventory-Revised (TCI-R). Results: 78 (48.1%) of the patients presented a Personality Disorder (PD), the most frequent being Cluster C, specifically Obsessive-compulsive disorder, followed by Avoidant disorder. PDs showed a specific pattern of correlation with temperament scales. All PD clusters correlated positively with Harm Avoidance and Self-Transcendence, and negatively with Reward Dependence, Self-Directedness, and Cooperativeness. In a logistic regression analysis, Self-Directedness and Cooperativeness predicted PD presence. The findings are consistent with previous studies in non-CFS samples and suggest that the combination of the Temperament and Character dimensions (low Self-Directedness and Cooperativeness and high Harm Avoidance and Self-Transcendence) correlates with PD severity, and that Self-Directedness and Cooperativeness are associated with PD presence in CFS patients. The integration of these two perspectives expands the current comprehension of personality pathology in CFS patients.
