The paper presents the results of theoretical research on the influence of the main design parameters on the optimum value of the nozzle outlet angle. The analysis was carried out for the stages with the disc and the drum rotors. The cascade losses were determined using Traupel’s and Bammert’s generalized cascade data. The calculations have proved that the blade height, the profile chord and the number of stages in the group are the most important factors influencing the optimum nozzle outlet angle.

The article presents the results of the theoretical research on the influence of the design parameters on the output characterictics of a hydraulic hammer. The hydraulic hammer under the study has a hydraulic percussive mechanism of a permanent pressure-type structure with a spool free control unit. A design model of a hydraulic percussive mechanism with a spool free control unit has been developed. The mathematical model of the hydraulic percussive mechanism of a permanent pressure-type structure with a spool free control unit is presented. The oscillogram resulting from the theoretical studies, which defines the operation of the hydraulic percussive mechanism, is presented. A range of the rational zones for selecting the main design parameters of the hydraulic percussive mechnism is obtained.

This paper deals with face gear design. The goal is to propose a simple formula for predicting the width of the wheel as a function of the main design parameters. A specific software was used to achieve this goal. This numerical tool is able to simulate the geometry and the quasistatic loaded behavior of a face gear. The statistical method used for analyzing the influence of data is described: The design of experiments leads to a simple regression model taking into account the influential parameters and their couplings. In the last part of this paper, the results of the formulas are compared to those of the software and an optimal design is proposed based on the regression model.

At development of common concept of current collection for three-phase traction power supply system there is the need to select and substantiate main design parameters of catenary suspension. For this purpose, the authors have carried out analytical calculations and developed a numerical mathematical model that allows assessing catenary statics and it’s dynamics in interaction with current collector. On the basis of results of modeling, the authors have substantiated and selected all the required parameters. In particular, they have determined the permissible speed of trains and maximal length of catenary spans.

The present work describes an aircraft design methodology that uses the wingspan and its mean aerodynamic chord as main design parameters. In the implemented tool, low fidelity models have been developed for the aerodynamics, stability, propulsion, weight, balance and flight performance. A Fortran® routine that calculates the aircraft performance for the user defined mission and vehicle’s performance requirements has been developed. In order to demonstrate this methodology, the results for a case study using the design specifications of the Air Cargo Challenge 2013 are shown.

In order to obtain the optimum structure of the lining pump under the condition of fluid thermosetting coupling, according to the given design parameters, the structural parameters of the pump were calculated, the three-dimensional geometric model was established, and the flow field analysis was carried out by CFD; the inlet angle βb1, outlet angle βb2, wrap angle φ, inlet diameter D1, and outlet diameter D2 of the impeller were selected as the five factors to design orthogonal experiment, and the results were analyzed by range analysis; then, the efficiency and cavitation allowance were obtained as combined parameters under the evaluation index. The displacement deformation and stress distribution under the condition of the coupling field were obtained by the fluid-solid coupling analysis, and the orthogonal experimental table of the impeller structure of the lining plastic pump was established, and then the orthogonal experimental results are analyzed to obtain the influence of each structural parameter under the condition of each evaluation index and the optimum combination parameters. The influence situation and the best combination parameters under the condition of evaluation index, taking the minimum displacement deformation and minimum stress of impeller as the reference index, and the optimum combination parameters under the condition of minimum displacement and stress were as follows: the inlet diameter D1 was 76 mm, the outlet diameter D2 was 252 mm, the inlet angle was 26°, the outlet angle was 24°, and the wrap angle was 115°. Finally, the 3D printing technology was used to print out the physical model to the hydraulic performance experiment verification.

The possibility of implementing the innovative multi-disc sorption bed combined with the heat exchanger into the adsorption cooling technology is investigated experimentally and numerically in the paper. The developed in-house sorption model incorporated into the commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code was applied within the analysis. The research allowed to define the design parameters of the proposed type of the sorption bed and correlate them with basic factors influencing the performance of the sorption bed and its dimensions. The designed multi-disc sorption bed is characterized by great scalability and allows to significantly expand the potential installation sites of the adsorption chillers.
