Analysis and Troubleshooting of Steam Induced Instability for an Industrial Turbomachinery

This paper presents the whole process of vibration analysis and troubleshooting of a new commissioning T6530 unit, a steam extraction and backpressure turbomachinery, which exhibited steam-excited instability during load-up. Through vibration measurement, fault diagnosis, site fault handling and stability numerical analysis of bearing and shaft train, the unit was redesigned and manufactured to resolve vibration faults finally.

In this paper, a condition assessment model using vibration method is presented to diagnose winding structure conditions. The principle of the model is based on the vibration correlation. In the model, the fundamental frequency vibration analysis is used to separate the winding vibration from the tank vibration. Then, a health parameter is proposed through the vibration correlation analysis. During the laboratory tests, the model is validated on a test transformer, and manmade deformations are provoked in a special winding to compare the vibrations under different conditions. The results show that the proposed model has the ability to assess winding conditions.

Abstract This paper reports on the application of Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry (ESPI) technique in vibration measurement of turbine blading. Using the time-averaged mode of ESPI, the first six modes of a turbocharger blade with airfoil profile were identified. The effect of the complicated profile of the blade was established by studying simplified model blades. Coupled modes were identified and successfully separated. Experimental results are compared with those obtained using finite element analysis.

A new simultaneous sampling and analyzer for dual-channel signal of vibration for rotating machine is developed based on the C8051F060, which is a high-speed SoC system and has two ADCs embedded with high sampling frequency. The signal condition circuits for various vibration sensors are designed, such as charge amplifier, integral transform and rotating speed detector. A colorful TFT LCD used can display all kinds of vibration analysis plots that are friendly in human-machine interface. The large capability non-volatile memory is used to restore up to one hundred of group of vibration waves. With many typical functions of vibration analysis, including waveform analysis, spectrum, orbit and balancing, this instrument is widely applied to vibration measurement and fault diagnosis of machine and equipment, especially for field balancing of rotary machine.
