Even if the condition of water on the earth seems rest, if we look at the fluid particles condition in molecular level or atomic level, fluid particles might be in the condition rotational vortex motion around themselves or in the condition equivalent to rotational motion around themselves, and they act centrifugal forces or equivalent forces to them on the fluid particles vertical upward (radial outward) and their weight of masses that directs vertical downward (radial inward) is supported vertical upward (radial outward) and balanced everywhere all around at every depth along the radial line on the earth.

In this the centenary year of Lord Kelvin's birth it is fitting that the Society should call to remembrance one who was for long its most distinguished Fellow, who first became its President at the age of thirty-nine, and was repeatedly re-elected to the office, which he held for twenty-one years in all, and who used the Society as a medium for the publication of many of his most brilliant discoveries. In the long list of his published papers there are at least one hundred and twenty items communicated to the Royal Society of Edinburgh. No other contributor has done so much to give to our Proceedings and Transactions a world-wide and lasting fame. It was to this Society that he brought, in 1849, his account of Carnot's Theory, which marks the beginning of his study of Thermodynamics, and it was in our Transactions that he published his epochmaking series of papers on the “Dynamical Theory of Heat” from 1851 to 1854. It was here in 1852 that he propounded the doctrine of the Dissipation of Energy. It was here that his investigations of underground temperature and the secular cooling of the Earth appeared in 1860 and 1862. It was here in 1865 that he “briefly refuted” the doctrine of Uniformity in Geology. Here, too, were published his long series of papers on Vortex Motion and Vortex Atoms, from 1867 to 1881, and much of his work on the molecular constitution of matter. Here he first showed, in germ, his mariner's compass, in 1874.

Main purpose of investigation has been put on the hydraulic energy losses caused in the rotating flow passage of centrifugal pump. Result of discussion shows that fundamental poor efficiency is brought by the fluid particles poor rotational motion at the trailing edge of impeller outlet, including the rotational motion caused in the flow passage between impeller blades rather than the hydraulic energy losses caused in the rotating flow passage. Therefore, our main purpose of investigation has to be put on the way rather to the fluid particles rotational motion caused at the trailing edge of impeller outlet and that caused between impeller blades.

The essential point of Bohr–Mottelson theory is to assume an irrotational flow. As was already suggested by Marumori and Watanabe, the internal rotational motion, i.e., the vortex motion, however, may exist also in nuclei. So, we must take the vortex motion into consideration. In classical fluid dynamics, there are various ways to treat the internal rotational velocity. The Clebsch representation, [Formula: see text] is very powerful and allows for the derivation of the equations of fluid motion from a Lagrangian. Making the best use of this advantage, Kronig–Thellung, Ziman and Ito obtained a Hamiltonian including the internal rotational motion, the vortex motion, through the term [Formula: see text]. Going to quantum fluid dynamics, Ziman and Thellung finally derived the roton spectrum of liquid Helium II postulated by Landau. Is it possible to follow a similar procedure in the description of the collective vortex motion in nuclei? The description of such a collective motion has not been considered in the context of the Bohr–Mottelson model (BMM) for a long time. In this paper, we will investigate the possibility of describing the vortex motion in nuclei on the basis of the theories of Ziman and Ito together with Marumori’s work.

Riga: Lap Lambert Academic Publishing, 2018. 132 Р. In this book, a new approach to the astronomical theory of climate change is considered, and problems of the orbital and rotational motion of the Earth are solved using the numerical method. The author of the monograph investigated the evolution of the earth’s axis and obtained the periods of its oscillations coinciding with observed oscillations. Calculations that covered 100,000 years showed a significant oscillation of the earth’s axis, which has led to fluctuations in insolation that can explain the changes in the paleoclimate.

Flow rate, which is caused in the direction radial outward in pump and radial inward in water turbine, is caused by the fluid particles straightly forward tangential movement in the direction of acting force perpendicular to impeller blades rotational radius. Impeller blades rotational motion is caused under the radial balance of centrifugal and centripetal forces. Centrifugal force is caused by the transferred energy from mechanical to hydraulic energy in pump and from hydraulic to mechanical energy in water turbine. Centripetal force is equivalent to discharge head in pump and equivalent to suction head in water turbine.

Berkeley’s general tenet about immaterialism is presented and discussed. I examined apart the several theses that concur to the immaterialist theory. After that, the general argument is presented and discussed. In particular, I stress Berkeley’s assumption that a world without matter and a world with matter would be indistinguishable from the point of view of (i) the content of perceptions, (ii) natural science (viz. Newtonian mechanics). I stress that this assumption depends on a relative account of circular motion, generating the centrifugal forces, as Newton shows in his bucket experiment. In spite of the efforts by Leibniz and Huygens, such a relative account of rotational motion was never presented. So the thesis about the scientific and perceptual identity between worlds with and without matter remains a simple case of wishful thinking in need for a justification.

We suggest that the vastness of protein sequence space is actually completely explorable during the populating of the Earth by life by considering upper and lower limits for the number of organisms, genome size, mutation rate and the number of functionally distinct classes of amino acids. We conclude that rather than life having explored only an infinitesimally small part of sequence space in the last 4 Gyr, it is instead quite plausible for all of functional protein sequence space to have been explored and that furthermore, at the molecular level, there is no role for contingency.

Abstract Numerical investigation of the Earth and Moon rotational motion dynamics is carried out at a long time intervals. In our previous studies (Pashkevich, 2013), (Pashkevich and Eroshkin, 2011) the high-precision Rigid Earth Rotation Series (designated RERS2013) and Moon Rotation Series (designated MRS2011) were constructed. RERS2013 are dynamically adequate to the JPL DE422/LE422 (Folkner, 2011) ephemeris over 2000 and 6000 years and include about 4113 periodical terms (without attempt to estimate new subdiurnal and diurnal periodical terms). MRS2011 are dynamically adequate to the JPL DE406/LE406 (Standish, 1998) ephemeris over 418, 2000 and 6000 years and include about 1520 periodical terms. In present research have been improved the Rigid Earth Rotation Series RERS2013 and Moon Rotation Series MRS2011, and as a result have been constructed the new high-precision Rigid Earth Rotation Series RERS2014 and Moon Rotation Series MRS2014 dynamically adequate to the JPL DE422/LE422 ephemeris over 2000 and 6000 years, respectively. The elaboration of RERS2013 is carried out by means recalculation of sub-diurnal and diurnal periodical terms. The residuals in Euler angles between the numerical solution and RERS2014 do not surpass 3 ìas over 2000 years. Improve the accuracy of the series MRS2011 is obtained by using the JPL DE422/LE422 ephemeris. The residuals in the perturbing terms of the physical librations between the numerical solution and MRS2014 do not surpass 8 arc seconds over 6000 years
