Two new species of Lasioseius Berlese (Acari: Blattisociidae) from Brazil, and a key for separation of the Brazilian species of the genus

Lasioseius is a genus widely distributed across the continents, found in many types of hosts. Two new species of blattisociid mites from Brazil, Lasioseius jorgeamadoi sp. nov. and Lasioseius gabrielae sp. nov., are described based on the morphology of adult females collected on buds of cocoa plants, Theobroma cacao L. (Malvaceae) and inflorescences of ornamental plants (Heliconiaceae and Musaceae) in the State of Bahia, and collected on sugar cane, Saccharum officinarum L. in the State of São Paulo. A key for the separation of females of the 14 species of Lasioseius recorded in Brazil is provided.

Two new species of the genus Charinus are described from caves of Brazil: Charinus spelaeus sp. n., the fourth described species of the genus for the state of Minas Gerais, and Charinus santanensis sp. n., the sixth described species of the genus for the state of Bahia. Charinus spelaeus sp. n. has reduced median and lateral eyes, and is the sixth troglobitic Charinus described for Brazil. We present here an updated key and a distribution map for all the Brazilian species of Charinus.

We present an overview of the morphological diversity and geographical distribution of the anostracan genus Dendrocephalus Daday, 1908, and describe two new species: D. aranai sp. nov. from Jequitinhonha in the state of Minas Gerais and D. xikrini sp. nov. from the Carajás Mountains (Serra dos Carajás) in the state of Pará. These species have important similarities to D. goiasensis Rabet & Thiéry, 1996 and D. thieryi Rabet, 2006, respectively, but differ from them and each other through a combination of characters that are essentially unique to the endopods, and frontal appendage branch 2A and branch 2D. We also partly redescribe D. carajaensis Rogers, Gomes & Vieira, 2012, which shows a particular intra-populational variability in branch 2A and 2D III of the frontal appendage, a type of polymorphism that was also recently observed in D. orientalis Rabet & Thiéry, 1996 and which must now be taken into account in taxonomy. In terms of the distribution of species of Dendrocephalus in Brazil, we suggest that several other species are probably present in the Amazonian, Cerrado and Pantanal Biomes, which remain largely unexplored. A new taxonomic key for the identification of males of the Brazilian species is provided.

The oscinelline genus Medeventor Wheeler, 2007 was originally proposed for a single quite aberrant species from Central America, M. nubosus Wheeler, 2007. In this paper, we present two new Brazilian species of Medeventor—M. minimus sp. n. and M. tschirnhausi sp. n. (both from the State of Mato Grosso). A key for the species of the genus is provided. Some comments are made on the diagnosis of the genus.

Two new species of Chelodesmidae from the Brazilian northeast are described, Iguazus robustussp. nov., from the state of Paraíba, and Tessarithys exacuminatussp. nov., from the states of Pernambuco and Sergipe. Iguazus robustussp. nov. differs from other species of the genus by having a constriction in the zone of the gonopodal acropodite tip and an extra branch at the tip of the acropodite. Tessarithys exacuminatussp. nov. differs from the other species of the genus by the large and ascending subterminal dorsal branch of the prefemoral process of the gonopod. Brief reviews of the taxonomy, geographic distribution and a key for males of the respective genera are provided.

Herein we describe two new species of lacewing in the family Dilaridae from northeastern Brazil: Nallachius furcatus, n. sp. and N. potiguar, n. sp. We also describe range expansions for three species: N. adamsi Penny, 1982 from Manaus to the border of the states of Amazonas and Pará; N. dicolor Adams, 1970 from the state of Santa Catarina to the states of Goiás and Minas Gerais; N. limai Adams, 1970 from Santa Catarina to Paraná. An identification key to adults and a checklist of Brazilian species are presented.

Abstract—A synopsis of Dicliptera (Acanthaceae) for Brazil is presented. Six species are recognized: Dicliptera ciliaris, D. sexangularis, and D. squarrosa, widely distributed in South America; D. purpurascens, which ranges from the North Region of Brazil (in the state of Acre) to eastern Bolivia; D. gracilirama, a new species from the Atlantic Forest of northeastern Brazil; and D. granchaquenha, a new species recorded in dry and semideciduous forests in Bolivia and western Brazil, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Furthermore, we propose new synonyms and designate lectotypes for eleven names. An identification key to the six accepted Dicliptera species in Brazil is provided.

In this paper, M. yanomami n. sp., from Brazilian Amazonia, Chaetacis bandeirante n. sp., from Central Brazil, and the males of M. gaujoni Simon, 1897 and M. ruschii (Mello-Leitão, 1945) n. comb. , respectively from Ecuador and Brazil, are described and illustrated for the first time. An ontogenetic series of the last development stages of both sexes of Micrathena excavata (C. L. Koch, 1836) is illustrated and briefly described. Adult females are larger and have longer legs and larger abdomens than adult males. Probably females undergo at least one additional moult before adulthood, compared to males. Micrathena ornata Mello-Leitão, 1932 is considered a junior synonym of M. plana (C. L. Koch, 1836), and M. mastonota Mello-Leitão 1940 is synonymized with M. horrida (Taczanowski, 1873). Acrosoma ruschii Mello-Leitão, 1945 is revalidated, transferred to Micrathena and considered a senior synonym of M. cicuta Gonzaga & Santos, 2004. Chaetacis necopinata (Chickering, 1960) is recorded for Brazil for the first time. Chaetacis incisa (Walckenaer, 1841) is considered a nomen dubium.

Stenosternum cordata sp. nov. and Stenosternum bifurcata sp. nov., new to science, are described, which is the first record of Hoplomegistidae from Asia. Stenosternum cordata sp. nov. is distinguished by its heart-shaped latigynal shield with two pairs of setae along the lateral margin, and two pairs of setae along the posterior margin of the sternal shield. Stenosternum bifurcata sp. nov. is distinguished by having remarkable bifurcate corniculus, six pairs of setae on the sternal shield and three pairs setae on the latigynal shield. The family Hoplomegistidae Camin & Gorirossi, 1955 is redefined and a key to adult females of species is provided.

Abstract: Two new species of bats (Pteronotus personatus and Cynomops mexicanus) are reported for the state of Yucatán.
