Objectives. We assessed the effects of neighborhood composition on effectiveness of the Walk Your Heart to Health (WYHH) intervention in promoting physical activity and reducing cardiovascular risk (CVR) in low-to-moderate–income, predominantly non-Latino Black (NLB) and Latino communities. Method. Multilevel models assessed modifying effects of neighborhood composition on (1) WYHH adherence/participation at 8 weeks and 32 weeks, (2) associations between participation and steps, and (3) associations between steps and CVR. Results. Approximately 90% of participants were women. Neither neighborhood poverty nor racial composition modified intervention participation at 8 weeks. At 32 weeks, residents of high percentage–NLB neighborhoods that also had high poverty rates had reduced participation. Neighborhood composition did not modify associations between participation and steps or between steps and CVR. Neighborhood percentage poverty and NLB were positively associated with CVR. Conclusion. Positive associations between participation in the WYHH program and physical activity, and CVR did not differ by neighborhood composition. Efforts to address challenges to long-term participation are warranted for residents of racially segregated, high-poverty neighborhoods. Residents of racially segregated neighborhoods with high concentrations of poverty experience disproportionately high risk for cardiovascular disease and can benefit from interventions such as WYHH that increase physical activity and reduce CVR.

Despite the many health benefits of physical activity (PA), the majority of Latinos do not meet recommended levels of PA. This chapter provides an overview of research on acculturation and PA among adult Latinos in the United States. It identifies gaps in knowledge concerning the association between acculturation and different types of PA, the joint effects of socioeconomic position and acculturation on PA, and research on gender. It suggests several areas for further research related to acculturation and PA, including an exploration of norms, social networks, and broader social contexts. It concludes that although the bulk of evidence indicates that greater acculturation is associated with increased PA, more complex research designs and greater methodological and conceptual rigor are needed to move forward research in this area.

Based on the lack of scientific evidence in the psychotherapy of depression in refugees, a controlled, prospective study is reported in which the effectiveness of a spiritual therapeutic group intervention is compared to a waiting control condition. A total of 20 people with a current depressive disorder were randomly assigned to either an experimental group (N = 10) or a waiting condition (N = 10). Before we worked, we had the ad in social networks and Persian churches in Frankfurt. For data collection through questionnaires and tests, a minimum of 2 hours was provided for each patient in the 8 weeks. We use Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). The effects were statistically and clinically significant on all parameters. Significant improvements were seen in 10 patients undergoing spiritual therapy (F = 0.405, α = 5 %). “The effectiveness of spiritual therapy from depression to culture-based in Iranian women in Germany” is a well-received, highly efficient group therapy. Waiting is inefficient and even problematic for this group.
