We review the status of the Starobinsky-like models for inflation beyond minimal gravity and discuss the unitarity problem due to the presence of a large non-minimal gravity coupling. We show that the induced gravity models allow for a self-consistent description of inflation and discuss the implications of the inflaton couplings to the Higgs field in the Standard Model.

Gravity changes (corrected for subsidence) of up to -1 000 (±300) μGal have occurred in the [Formula: see text] area of the production bore field at Wairakei, and smaller decreases extend over a [Formula: see text] surrounding area. The largest part of these decreases occurred during the 1960s; since then the net gravity change for the whole field has been zero, indicating mass flow equilibrium. The principal causes of gravity change have been deep liquid pressure drawdown which resulted in formation of a steam zone, subsequent saturation changes in the steam zone, liquid temperature decline, and groundwater level changes. Gravity models suggest saturation of the steam zone was 0.7 (±0.1) in 1962 and decreased to 0.6 by 1972. Gravity increases in the northern and eastern bore field since the early 1970s are attributed to cool water invading the steam zone.

The objective of this study is to analyze the determinants of Brazilian exports by levels of technological intensity in the period 2000-2015. Gravity models were estimated for total of the exports and for each type of exports by levels of technological intensity, using the PPML-estimator. The study indicates that there is a process of concentration of Brazilian exports in low technology and medium-low technology products, at the same period in which China's share of total Brazilian shipments abroad grew. Estimates of empirical gravity models have shown that the income and size of the consumer market of Brazil’s trading partners seem to have the greatest positive influence on the Brazilian exports. Indications of this study are that the Brazil should continue to diversify its trading partners to minimize the impacts of a possible reduction of the economic growth of large trading partners (such as China and the US) on its exports and increase its exports of products with greater technological intensity. The results also highlight the need for Brazil to make greater efforts to increase its competitiveness in the international market to reduce the negative impacts of transport costs on the final prices of products exported by the country.

We study the role of integral representations in the description of nonperturbative solutions to c ≤ 1 string theory. A generic solution is determined by two functions, W(x) and Q(x), which behave at infinity like xp and xq respectively. The integral formula for arbitrary (p, q) models is derived, which explicitly realizes a duality transformation between (p, q) and (q, p) 2D gravity solutions. We also discuss the exact solutions to the string equation and reduction condition and present several explicit examples.

Abstract In the present work we find novel Newtonian gravity models in three space-time dimensions. We first present a Maxwellian version of the extended Newtonian gravity, which is obtained as the non-relativistic limit of a particular U(1)-enlargement of an enhanced Maxwell Chern-Simons gravity. We show that the extended Newtonian gravity appears as a particular sub-case. Then, the introduction of a cosmological constant to the Maxwellian extended Newtonian theory is also explored. To this purpose, we consider the non-relativistic limit of an enlarged symmetry. An alternative method to obtain our results is presented by applying the semigroup expansion method to the enhanced Nappi-Witten algebra. The advantages of considering the Lie algebra expansion procedure is also discussed.
