The described synthesis of all three isomeric 1,1'-phenylene-bis(6-azauracil-5-carbonitriles) IVa-IVc starts from the respective 1-nitrophenyl-6-azauracil-5-carbonitriles Ia-Ic which were reduced to the corresponding amino derivatives IIa-IIc, diazotized, and coupled with ethyl cyanoacetylcarbamate to give the isomeric hydrazones IIIa-IIIc which were finally cyclized to the title compounds containing two 6-azauracil rings. A general formula is presented for calculation of mutual distance of arbitrary atoms in any planar molecules.

In a series of papers by Browning, Cohen, Ellingworth and Gulbransen it was shown that many of the amino and acylamino compounds obtained by the condensation of derivatives of α-methylquinoline with nitroso-acylamines possess active antiseptic, and in some cases mild trypanocidal properties. These substances have the following general formula in which X represents an amino or acylamino group. X― ―CH : N ― X | N / CH, I It appeared interesting to examine the physiological effect of substances obtained by attaching by means of nitrogen a basic aliphatic or aromatic side-chain directly to the α-carbon of the quinoline nucleus, replacing in this way the above CH group. These substances are in general easily obtained from the methiodide of α-iodoquinoline by the direct action of the base or by using as condensing agent pyridine or piperidine according to the following reaction.

The transformation of high molecular weight components present in heavy oils into useable liquid fuels requires their decomposition by means of a variety of processes. The low molecular weight species produced recombine under controlled conditions to generate synthetic fuels. However, an important fraction undergo further recombination into higher molecular weight components, leading to the formation of coke. The optical texture of the coke can be related to its originating components. Those with high sulfur and oxygen content tend to produce cokes with small optical texture or fine mosaic, whereas compounds with relatively high hydrogen content are likely to produce large optical texture or domains. In addition, the structure of the parent chemical components, planar or nonplanar, determines the isotropic or anisotropic character of the coke. Planar molecules have a tendency to align in an approximately parallel arrangement to initiate the formation of the nematic mesophase leading to the formation of anisotropic coke. Nonplanar highly alkylated compounds and/or those rich in polar groups form isotropic coke. The aliphatic branches produce steric hindrance to alignment, whereas the polar groups participate in cross-linking reactions.

The present paper is interested in the study of compounds from the apatite family with the general formula Ca10 (PO4)6A2. It particularly brings to light the exploitation of the distinctive stereochemistries of two Ca positions in apatite. In fact, Gd-Bearing oxyapatiteCa8 Gd2 (PO4)6O2 has been synthesized by solid state reaction and characterized by X-ray powder diffraction. The site occupancies of substituents is0.3333 in Gd and 0.3333 for Ca in the Ca(1) position and 0. 5 for Gd in the Ca (2) position.  Besides, the observed frequencies in the Raman and infrared spectra were explained and discussed on the basis of unit-cell group analyses.

Abstract This paper gives the results of part of a systematic investigation into contaminant toxicity to Photobacterium phosphoreum in the Microtox™ test. Reported are the toxicity values for 39 para-chloro substituted benzene derivatives of the general formula l-Cl-C6h4-4-X=CH2CH(NH2)COOH, F, SO2NH2, OCH2COOH, CH2COOH, CONHNH2, NHCOCH3, CONH2, CH=CHCOOH, SeOOH, CH2NH2, CH2CH2NH2, NO2, H, CF3, CHO, CH2OH, OH, CH3, CCl3, COCH3, COOH, NH2, SO2C6H5, Cl, CH2COCH3, COCl, CN, OCH3, NCO, NHCH3, I, COC6H5, CH2Cl, SH, CH2SH, NCS, CH2CN and SO2C6H4Cl. Except for the last compound, whose solubility is below the required concentration, the toxicities increase in the presented order with a total range of more than three orders of magnitude. The data are discussed in terms of quantitative structure-toxicity correlations with compound-specific structural parameters. In combination with a previously developed submodel on chlorinated benzenes, phenols, nitrobenzenes and anilines, the observed relationships allow the prediction of the toxicity of some 780 possible chloro derivatives of the general formula C6H5-nClnX, where n=<5 and X is a functional group as listed above.

Background & Objective:New diaryl-substituted pyrimidinedione compounds, their thioxo derivatives as well as their bicyclic thiazole compounds were synthesized and characterized. Methods:The glycosylamino derivatives of the synthesized disubstituted derivatives of the pyrimidine scaffold were also prepared via reaction of the N3-amino derivatives with a number of monosaccharides followed by acetylation. Results:The anticancer activity of the synthesized compounds was studied against human liver cancer (HepG2) and RPE-1cell lines. Compounds 2a, 2b, 3a and 12 showed potent activities with IC50 results comparable to that of doxorubicin. Conclusion:Docking investigations into Cyclin-dependent kinase 2 (CDK-2) enzyme, a potential target for cancer medication, were also reported showing the possible binding interaction into the enzyme active site to support their activity behavior.

The cyclization of 3-N(4- and 5-benzimidazolyl and benztriazolyl)amino-2-cyano- and 2-ethoxycarbonyl-2-propenoate esters Ia, b-IVa, b under the conditions of the Gould-Jacobs reaction leads to angularly ring-fused substituted imidazo or triazolo[4,5-f] (V, VI) and [4,5-h] (VII, VIII) quinolines, respectively. The esters Vb-VIIIb have been transformed into the corresponding chloroderivatives Vc-VIIIc. 3-N(5-Benzimidazolyl and 5-benztriazolyl)amino-2-cyano-2-propenenitriles are cyclized in the presence of aluminium(III) chloride to give the aminoquinolines Vd, VId. The structure of the products has been characterized by their 1H, 13C NMR, IR, and UV spectra.

The title amino derivatives VI and XIV were prepared by nucleophilic substitution of p-toluenesulfonyl derivatives II and XVII with sodium azide or hydrazine and subsequent reduction. Nucleophilic substitution of compounds II and XVII with sodium benzoate was also investigated. The 1H NMR spectra of the substances prepared are discussed.

Antibacterial quinolones have attracted an increasing attention as a source of clinically useful drugs. During our research into antibacterial quinolones we were also interested in compounds having at the position 3 various groups that could mimic the carboxylic group present in these drugs. Having our own procedure for the preparation of 3-nitroquinolones, we decided to investigate the question of possible activity of 3-amino derivatives and 3-acylamino derivatives.
