Soybean seedlings were treated with different phosphorus (P) concentrations for 20 days to investigate their growth and development. The root growth and development of soybean seedlings was the best when the concentration of phosphorus was 250 μmol/L. After 20 days of cultivation at this concentration, the roots of soybean seedlings were developed, indicating that the main root length, lateral root length, and the number of lateral root was the best among all treatments, and the number of lateral roots was quite a few. In addition, when the concentration of P was at 250 μmol/L, it had a better promotion effect on the plant height of soybean seedlings, and could significantly enhance the development of soybean seedlings. Moreover, the growth of soybean seedlings would be inhibited at the condition of phosphorus deficiency or excessive phosphorus. In this experiment, the growth indexes of soybean seedlings were compared between four treatments of phosphorus concentration, so as to make a basic study on the physiological effect of soybean on phosphorus in early stage.

Neural codes are thought to be reorganized during memory formation by long-term potentiation (LTP) of synapses. Here, using a novel approach for selectively blocking LTP, we found that eliminating LTP in hippocampal or striatal circuits only produces limited effects on learning and memory. To reconcile the discrepancy between the large physiological effect of blocking LTP and the absent effect on learning, we studied how LTP impacts neuronal computations in the hippocampus using in-vivo Ca2+-imaging. Contrary to current conceptual frameworks, we found that hippocampal CA1-region LTP is not required for accurate representations of space in hippocampal neurons, but rather endows these neurons with reward- and novelty-coding properties. Thus, instead of driving formation of cognitive maps and memory engrams, CA1-region LTP incorporates salience information into cognitive representations.

The paper develops an ana lysis of exhaust noise for a single-cylinder diesel engine tested in laboratory conditions. The acoustic signal at the engine exhaust system, for the speed range 1,300 – 2,700 rpm was measured and recorded. The results of the noise recordings were subjected to a processing from which the variation of the noise level depending on the engine speed was obtained. Next, the physiological effect of acoustic filtrations for noise recordings was analyzed by simulation. This allowed the optimization of the exhaust noise, having identified the areas and the optimal attenuation effect. In the performed simulations, it was found that the low frequencies require the highest attenuation background.

The present’s experimental data on the influence of the venom of the honey bee on the life span of experimental animals irradiated with small doses of gamma radiation on physiological and pharmacological action venom of the honey bee Apis mellifera Caucasica. The aim of the studies was to study the radioprotective effect of the pre-introduced venom Apis mellifera Caucasica with a single gamma irradiation of 60Co mice at doses of 1.3, 5, 7, 10 Gy at irradiation dose rates of 1 Gr / min. Injection of venom followed by gamma irradiation of 60Co at a dose of D = 1, 3, 5 and 7 Gy at an irradiation dose rate of 1 Gy / min increased the life span of the experimental groups of mice ranging from 45% to 56 % and from 52% to 67%, respectively. An increase in the lifespan of experimental rats exposed to radiation with the preliminary introduction of the venom of the honey bee.

Indonesia is one of the countries that has</span><span lang="EN-US"> </span><span lang="EN-US">a high rate of COVID-19</span><span lang="EN-US"> </span><span lang="EN-US">transmission,</span><span lang="EN-US"> </span><span lang="EN-US">this has an effect on various</span><span lang="EN-US"> </span><span lang="EN-US">policies</span><span lang="EN-US"> </span><span lang="EN-US">in suppressing transmission rates by limiting social mobility.</span><span lang="EN-US"> </span><span lang="EN-US">In the midst of this pandemic, people are faced with uncertain conditions that result in levels boredom, fear and even public anxiety increased.</span><span lang="EN-US"> </span><span lang="EN-US">The author is interested in exploring the realities of the COVID-19 pandemic by seeing that there is a relationship between public anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic and awareness of the need for spirituality in facing the various changes that have occurred.</span><span lang="EN-US"> </span><span lang="EN-US">Using the philosophical hermeneutic method, this qualitative research was conducted by trying to discuss one of the spiritual practices of Javanese society, namely Tapa Brata, and to relate it to public anxiety that occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic.</span><span lang="EN-US"> </span><span lang="EN-US">The results of the discussion</span><span lang="EN-US"> </span><span lang="EN-US">carried out are: (1)</span><span lang="EN-US"> </span><span lang="EN-US">anxiety in the people during the pandemic period is caused by awareness of an uncertain and constantly changing reality.</span><span lang="EN-US"> </span><span lang="EN-US">(2)</span><span lang="EN-US"> </span><span lang="EN-US">Tapa brata is the mental practice of forming a self that is calm and wise in accepting all changes.</span><span lang="EN-US"> </span><span lang="EN-US">(3)</span><span lang="EN-US"> </span><span lang="EN-US">Tapa brata is an inner practice that is personal and</span><span lang="EN-US"> </span><span lang="EN-US">can overcome public anxiety during a pandemic and has a physiological effect in increasing immunity during the Covid-19 pandemic.</span></p>

Introduction. Phytoecdysteroids are a group of natural compounds related in structure and physiological effect to ecdysone - the hormone of insect molting. Phytoecdisteroids have been found to have an antiflammatory effect, which suggests that they have regenerative properties. The development of a soft dosage form containing phytoecdysteroids is of interest.Aim. Improvement of ointment compositions with phytoecdysteroids by optimizing the composition of base adjuvants.Materials and methods. As an active substance was used Serpisten, containing the sum of phytoecdysteroids, the main of which is 20-hydroxyecdysone and obtained from the leaves of Serratulaecoronatae. Raw materials "Serpukhi crowned leaves" were registered by the Federal Service Rospotrebnadzor (Moscow) for the production of dietary supplements (Gr. No. 77.99.23.3.U.1922.3.08), substance Serpisten (Gr. No. 77.99.23.3.U.1923.3.08. TU 9369-002-15092611-2008). In work were used the excipients allowed for medical use: the monoglycerides distilled, T-2 emulsifier, tween 80, sodium - carboxymethylcellulose, polyvinyl alcohol, hydroxide of aluminum, aero forces, vaseline, oil vaseline, sunflower oil. Optimization of ointment auxiliary substances composition was carried out according to the Greco-Latin 4 x 4 square plan with repeated observations. The concentration of hydrogen ions from aqueous ointments was evaluated as process parameters; acid number; release of serpistene from ointment into agar gel, thermal stability of structure. The structural and mechanical properties of the optimal composition ointment composition were determined on a RV type REOTEST 2.1 rotary viscometer (RHEOTEST Medingen GmbH, Germany). Ointment Bepanten (GP Grenzach Produktions GmbH, Germany) was used as a comparison preparation.Results and discussion. During optimization of the composition of the diphilic ointment with serpistene, was found that the ratio of hydrophobic and hydrophilic phases should be 1 : 1, it is advisable to introduce into the ointment base an emulsifier T-2, aerosil and a mixture of vaseline and vaseline oil in the proportion of 1 : 1. As a result of the carried out studies on the optimization of ointment compositions, the following serpisten ointment composition is proposed: serpisten - 0.02; emulsifier T-2 - 3.0; aerosil - 3.0; vaseline - 23.0; vaseline oil - 23.0; ethyl alcohol 40 % - 1 ml; purified water to 100.0. Comparative analysis of effective viscosity showed that the proposed composition is as close as possible to the Bepanten ointment.Conclusion. A set of technological studies was carried out to optimize the composition of the Serpisten, 0.02 °% ointment on a diphilic basis. The developed composition and technology made it possible to obtain a composition with thermal stability, bring the hydrogen index of the ointment closer to the pH of human skin and achieve the parameters included in the rheological optimum for dermatological ointments (0.34-108 Pa • s).

AbstractThe intrinsic efficacy of ligand binding to G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) reflects the ability of the ligand to differentially activate its receptor to cause a physiological effect. Here we use attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy to examine the ligand-dependent conformational changes in the human M2 muscarinic acetylcholine receptor (M2R). We show that different ligands affect conformational alteration appearing at the C=O stretch of amide-I band in M2R. Notably, ATR-FTIR signals strongly correlated with G-protein activation levels in cells. Together, we propose that amide-I band serves as an infrared probe to distinguish the ligand efficacy in M2R and paves the path to rationally design ligands with varied efficacy towards the target GPCR.

Echinopsis chiloensis is an endemic cactus from Chile, distributed in a temperature and rainfall gradient between 30° and 35° South latitude, with mean temperatures increasing and precipitation decreasing toward the north. It is the main host of the mistletoe Tristerix aphyllus, a holoparasite completely dependent on the cactus for water, carbon, and minerals. In this study, we investigated the consequences of parasitism over the fitness and physiology of this cactus throughout its distribution range and how it is affected by the environment. We measured five functional traits in eight populations latitudinally distributed, the first three only for the host: reproductive fitness, stomatal traits (density and size), and photosynthesis (during winter and summer); and the last two for the host and parasite: stable isotopes (∂13C and ∂15N), and nutrients (carbon and nitrogen content). The results showed a negative effect of parasitism over fitness of infected cacti. However, the higher nitrogen concentrations in cactus tissues toward the south improved overall fitness. Regarding photosynthesis, we only observed a negative effect of parasitism during the dry season (summer), which is also negatively affected by the increase in summer temperatures and decrease in winter rainfall toward the north. There were no differences in nutrient concentration or in the isotopic signature of healthy and infected cacti. Conversely, we observed a higher carbon and lower nitrogen concentration in mistletoes than in cacti regardless of latitude. The loss of temperature seasonality toward the north increases the C:N ratio, and the values between the parasite and its host diverge. ∂15N was similar between parasites and hosts while ∂13C of the parasite was enriched when compared to its host. Overall, the infection by T. aphyllus affects Echinopsis chiloensis fitness but showed no strong effects over the cactus physiology, except for the summer photosynthesis. Therefore, our data revealed that E. chiloensis response to T. aphyllus infection is sensitive to environmental changes in a way that could be strongly impacted by the desertification projected for this area due to climate change.

Introduction: Multiple clinical trials have failed to show significant differences in survival between use of endotracheal intubation (ETI) and supraglottic airway devices (SGA) in patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). However, treatment in these trials was limited to standard ACLS, which favors short duration of CPR. We sought to compare the physiological effect of ETI versus SGA use in patients treated with prolonged CPR and extracorporeal pulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) for refractory ventricular fibrillation/ventricular tachycardia (VT/VF) by the Minnesota Mobile Resuscitation Consortium (MMRC). Methods: Consecutive refractory VT/VF OHCA patients transported by the MMRC to the University of Minnesota for ECPR between 2015 and 2021 were included in this retrospective analysis. Patients were considered ineligible for ECPR if they failed specific arterial blood gas metabolic criteria (lactic acid >18 mmol/L, PaO2 <50 mmHg, and ETCO2 <10 mmHg). Metabolic parameters at presentation and survival were compared between patients receiving ETI and SGA. Results: Among 260 patients (58.0±11.8 years), 46.5% received ETI and 53.5% received SGA. During the index hospitalization, 78/260 (30%) achieved neurologically favorable survival. Compared to those receiving ETI, patients receiving SGA had lower PaO2 (116.8±118.7 versus 135.8±128.3 mmHg, p=0.03), higher PaCO2 (69.7±28.9 versus 60.7±25.6 mmHg, p=0.01), and lower pH (7.00±0.19 versus 7.06±0.21, p=0.008). Significantly more patients who received SGA had PaO2 <50mmHg (29.1% versus 16.9%, respectively; p=0.02) and ≥1 ECPR exclusion criteria (33.1% versus 20.7%, respectively; p=0.03). Among patients excluded for PaO2 <50 mmHg, the presenting PaO2 was 35.5±11.0 mmHg and the presenting PaCO2 was 94.5±26.2 mmHg, suggestive of absence of effective ventilation (asphyxia) at presentation. Survival with CPC 1-2 was 34.7% versus 25.9% for ETI versus SGA, respectively (p=0.12). Conclusion: Use of SGA, during prolonged CPR in refractory VT/VF OHCA, was associated with a significant increase in the proportion of patients presenting with significant hypoxemia and asphyxial physiology, thus increasing ineligibility for ECPR.
