Morphological study of several ectotrophic mycorrhizae of fir (Abies religiosa) showed that they are dichotomic or corralloid, simple or ramified. Four symbiotic fungi were isolated from the mycorrhizae, and judging from the type of infection, they were active and of medium virulence. The macro- and micro-scopic descriptions of each fungal strain show different cultural characteristics as well as different stimulations to the development of the plant.

Fungal strain MF KP-12.1, which is similar in morphological and cultural characteristics to Botryosphaeria fungi, was isolated from the seeds of white lupine variety Dega grown in Oryol region in 2018. Phylogenetic analysis of the large rRNA subunit (LSU), elongation factor-1α (TEF) and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) fragments was used to accurately identify the isolated strain as B. sinensis. When 2-week-old white lupine plants were treated under laboratory conditions with mycelial suspension of B. sinensis MF KP-12.1, plant damage reached 67 % on day 3, and 100 % plant death was observed on day 10. Pathogenicity of B. sinensis MF KP-12.1 was confirmed by re-isolation of the strain from damaged plant tissue. This is the first detection of B. sinensis on white lupine, which has not been previously reported as a host for this fungus. It is also the first detection of B. sinensis in Russia.

The coleorhiza is a nonvascular sheath that encloses the embryonic radicle in Poaceae, and is generally the first tissue to emerge during germination. Delicate hairlike extensions develop from some coleorhiza cells prior to radicle emergence. Similar to root hairs, coleorhiza hairs are extremely sensitive to desiccation and are damaged by exposure to negative water potentials. The coleorhiza of Lolium perenne is somewhat spherical when first visible, after which a knob forms at a right angle to the caryopsis due to inner pressure from the elongating radicle. This knob increases in length until the radicle finally punctures the coleorhiza. Standard fixation procedures cause severe desiccation of coleorhiza cells and hairs, making morphological study of the coleorhiza difficult. This study was conducted to determine a more successful process for coleorhiza preservation.

In order to develop new antimicrobial agents, a series of 3-formyl indole based Schiff bases were synthesized by reacting 3-formyl indole(indole-3-carboxaldehyde) with substituted aniline taking ethanol as solvent. The reaction was carried in the presence of small amount of p-toluene sulphonic acid as catalyst. All the synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, 1H-NMR spectral analysis. All the synthesized compounds were evaluated for antimicrobial activity against two gram positive bacterial strains (B. subtilisand S. aureus) and two gram negative bacterial strains (P. aeruginosaand E. coli) and one fungal strain (C. albicans). All the synthesized compounds were found to have moderate to good antimicrobial activity. The  standard drug amoxicillin, fluconazole were used for antimicrobial activity. Among the synthesized compounds, the maximum antimicrobial activity was shown by compounds GS04, GS07, GS08 and GS10.
