Excess molar volumes and viscosities of binary mixtures of some polyethers with propylamine at 298.15 K

Excess molar volumes (VmE) and dynamic viscosities (η) have been measured as a function of composition for binary liquid mixtures of propylamine with 2,5-dioxahexane, 2,5,8-trioxanonane, 2,5,8,11-tetraoxadodecane, 3,6,9-trioxaundecane, and 5,8,11-trioxapentadecane at 298.15 K. The excess volumes are positive over the entire range of composition for the systems propylamine + 2,5-dioxahexane, and + 3,6,9-trioxaundecane, negative for the systems propylamine + 2,5,8,11-tetraoxadodecane, and + 5,8,11-trioxapentadecane, and change sign from positive to negative for the remaining system propylamine + 2,5,8-trioxanonane. From the experimental data, deviations in the viscosity (Δln η) and excess energies of activation for viscous flow (ΔG*E) have been derived. These values are positive for all mixtures with the exception of propylamine + 2,5-dioxahexane.Key words : excess volume, viscosity, binary mixtures.

Excess molar volumes (VEm) and dynamic viscosities (η) for five (alkoxyethanol + propylamine) mixtures have been measured as a function of composition at 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure. The alkoxyethanols were 2-methoxyethanol, 2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethanol, 2-(2-ethoxyethoxy)ethanol, 2-(2-butoxyethoxy)ethanol, and 2-{2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethoxy}ethanol. The excess molar volumes VEm are all negative over the whole composition range. The viscosity data have been correlated by the methods of Kendall and Monroe, Grunberg and Nissan, Tamura and Kurata, Hind, Katti and Chaudry, and with McAllister correlations. From the experimental data, deviations in the viscosity (Δη) have been calculated. The results are discussed in terms of the interaction between components.Key words: excess volume, viscosity, binary mixtures.

Densities (ρ) are reported for the 2-methoxyethanol (component l)/water (component 2) solvent system, over the full composition range (0 ≤ X1 ≤ 1) at temperatures (t) from -10 to +80�C. The experimental data have been fitted by three empirical relations that represent the functions ρ = ρ(t), ρ = ρ(X1), ρ = p(t,X1), and the excess volume values by a Redlich-Kister equation. The 1:2 2-methoxyethanol/water adduct appears to be stable throughout the temperature range.

Excess molar volumes, VE, have been measured for binary liquid mixtures of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) with xylenes (o- xylene, m- xylene and p-xylene) at 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure. The excess volumes values were found negative over the entire composition range for all the mixtures. The VE values increase in order: p-xylene[ m-xylene[ o-xylene. The Flory and Prigogine-Flory-Patterson (PFP) thermodynamic theories of solution have been used to analyze the VE data. The calculated VE values were found to be in good agreement with the experimental data.

Excess molar volumes, VE, for three binary liquid mixtures of cyclohexane + n-dodecane, n-tetradecane, and n-hexadecane were determined from density measurements at seven different temperatures in the range from 283.15 to 313.15 K and atmospheric pressure, over the entire range of mole fractions. The VE values were derived and the results show a regular negative pattern of behaviour for each of the three sets of the binary system. For cyclohexane, the magnitude of VE increases with the alkane chain length. The Prigogine-Flory-Patterson theory was applied to analyze the experimental behaviour by calculating three different contributions to VE, i.e., interactional, free volume, and internal pressure. The theory gives a representation of the main feature of the systems studied by using a fitted parameter to describe the behaviour throughout the composition range.Key words: excess molar volumes, binary mixtures, cyclohexane, n-dodecane, n-tetradecane, n-hexadecane, Prigogine-Flory-Patterson theory.

Excess molar volumes (VEm) and viscosities (η) for mixtures of triethylene glycol dimethyl ether + dichloromethane, + trichloromethane, and + tetrachloromethane have been determined at 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure over the whole concentration range. From the experimental results, deviations in viscosities (Δ ln η) have been calculated. These properties were fitted to the polynomial relations to obtain the coefficients and the standard deviations. Densities for binary mixtures of cyclopentane with 1-propanol, 1-pentanol, and 1-heptanol over the whole composition range have been measured at temperature 318.15 K. From these densities, excess molar volumes were calculated. All the experimental excess molar volumes were fitted to Redlich–Kister equation and were analyzed with the help of Prigogine–Flory–Patterson theory. Also isobaric expansibilities and their excess counterparts were calculated. Further different approaches were analysed for calculating ideal expansibilities.

The viscosities of binary liquid mixtures of toluene with butan-1-ol and 2-methylpropan-2-ol have been determined at 298.15, 303.15, 308.15, 313.15 and 318.15 K over the whole concentration range. The Hind, Grunberg-Nissan, Wijk, Auslander and McAllister models were used to calculate the viscosity coefficients and these were compared with the experimental data for the mixtures. Excess viscosities were also calculated and fitted to the Redlich-Kister equation. Various thermodynamic properties of viscous flow activation were determined and their variations with composition are discussed.

Excess molar volumes of binary liquid mixtures of (acetic or propionic acid = hexane) at 25 and 35°C, and (acetic or propionic acid + heptane or octane) and (acetic acid + dodecane) at 25°C, measured with a tilting dilution dilatometer, are reported. The excess volumes are positive over the entire concentration range for all mixtures and increase with increasing length of an alkane molecule, decrease with increasing of the alkyl chain in a molecule of carboxylic acid, and increase with increasing temperature.

Excess volumes for binary mixtures of 1-chlorobutane with hexane, heptane, octane and nonane were measured dilatometrically at 303.15 K. Excess volumes are positive over the entire range of composition in the four mixtures. Further, it is observed that increase in chain length increases the magnitude of the excess function.
