The entropy of a free scalar field is calculated in the Reissner–Nordström–(anti-)de Sitter spacetimes. Due to the presence of the cosmological horizon in the Reissner–Nordström–de Sitter spacetime, we introduce a cutoff at the cosmological horizon, besides the cutoff at the horizon of black holes in the brick wall model. The entropy is found to be the sum of two terms, which are proportional to the area of the cosmological horizon and of black hole horizon, respectively. In the Reissner–Nordström–anti-de Sitter spacetime the contribution of the anti-de Sitter background to the entropy of scalar fields vanishes when an infinite volume is taken. The entropy of scalar fields is also evaluated in some special backgrounds described by solutions of Einstein–Maxwell equations with a cosmological constant, such as the cold black holes, lukewarm black holes, ultracold solutions, a naked singularity in de Sitter space, and the de Sitter space. The physical meaning of some results is briefly discussed.

We find an exact nonstatic charged BTZ-like solutions, in (N+1)-dimensional Einstein gravity in the presence of negative cosmological constant and a nonlinear Maxwell field defined by a power s of the Maxwell invariant, which describes the gravitational collapse of charged null fluid in an anti-de Sitter background. Considering the situation that a charged null fluid injects into the initially an anti-de Sitter spacetime, we show that a black hole form rather than a naked singularity, irrespective of spacetime dimensions, from gravitational collapse in accordance with cosmic censorship conjecture. The structure and locations of the apparent horizons of the black holes are also determined. It is interesting to see that, in the static limit and when N = 2, one can retrieve 2+1 BTZ black hole solutions.

Abstract We study wavefunctions of heavy scalars on de Sitter spacetime and their implications to dS/CFT correspondence. In contrast to light fields in the complementary series, heavy fields in the principal series oscillate outside the cosmological horizon. As a consequence, the quadratic term in the wavefunction does not follow a simple scaling and so it is hard to identify it with a conformal two-point function. In this paper, we demonstrate that it should be interpreted as a two-point function on a cyclic RG flow which is obtained by double-trace deformations of the dual CFT. This is analogous to the situation in nonrelativistic AdS/CFT with a bulk scalar whose mass squared is below the Breitenlohner-Freedman (BF) bound. We also provide a new dS/CFT dictionary relating de Sitter two-point functions and conformal two-point functions in the would-be dual CFT.

The singularity theorems of general relativity predict that gravitational collapse finally ends up in a spacetime singularity1. The cosmic censorship hypothesis (CCH) states that such a singularity is covered by an event horizon2. Despite much effort, there is no rigorous formulation or proof of the CCH. In view of this, examples that appear to violate the CCH and lead to naked singularities, in which non-spacelike curves can emerge, rather than black holes, are important to shed more light on the issue. We have studied several collapse scenarios which can lead to both situations3. In the case of the Vaidya-de Sitter spacetime4, we have shown that the naked singularities that arise are of the strong curvature type. Both types of singularities can also arise in higher dimensional Vaidya and Tolman-Bondi spacetimes, but black holes are favoured in some sense by the higher dimensions. The charged Vaidya-de Sitter spacetime also exhibits both types of singularities5.

In this paper, we refine and analytically prove an old proposition due to Calabi and Markus on the shape of timelike geodesics of anti-de Sitter space in the ambient flat space. We prove that each timelike geodesic forms in the ambient space a circle of the radius determined by [Formula: see text], lying on a Euclidean two-plane. Then, we outline an alternative proof for [Formula: see text]. We also make a comment on the shape of timelike geodesics in de Sitter space.

In [R. P. Bernar, L. C. B. Crispino and A. Higuchi, Phys. Rev. D 90 (2014) 024045.] we investigated gravitational perturbations in the background of de Sitter spacetime in arbitrary dimensions. More specifically, we used a gauge-invariant formalism to describe the perturbations inside the cosmological horizon, i.e. in the static patch of de Sitter spacetime. After a gauge-fixed quantization procedure, the two-point function in the Bunch–Davies-like vacuum state was shown to be infrared finite and invariant under time-translation. In this work, we give details of the calculations to obtain the graviton two-point function in 3 + 1 dimensions.

In this paper two consequences of the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) are discussed in a heuristic manner. Both could be regarded as the evidences that prefer the cosmic censorship hypothesis (CCH). The first one is that the second law tends to decline the massless charged particles if the effects of the GUP on the thermodynamics of a de Sitter spacetime are considered. This weakens the threat to the horizon of an extreme charged black hole. The second one is that the uv/ir correspondence provides a constraint on the relation between the energy and the size of a system, which is incompatible to the naked singularities.
