A new series of oxydic superconductors, Y 2 Ba 4 Ca n Cu n+6 O 2n+14, was synthesized. By X-ray diffraction method was pointed out that the samples are 123 phase superconductors. The temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity pointed out the zero-baseline, a linear increase and a jump. The thermal variation of the magnetic susceptibility exhibits the diamagnetic transition i.e. Tc(χ=0).

Bi1.7-Pb0.3-Sr2-Ca2-Cu3-Ox superconducting samples were prepared at 855°C, 862 C, 870 C, and 882 C sintering temperatures respectively. All samples were sintered for 120 hours. The samples were then quenched in liquid nitrogen. The electrical resistivity measurements showed that the samples sintered at 870° C had the best Tc. For these samples the Tc onset was around 120 K and the zero resistance was obtained at 108 K. X-ray diffraction studies showed that the samples were multiphased.

AbstractA new member of the LnMIn5 family, ErCoIn5, has been synthesized by a flux-growth method. The structure of ErCoIn5 was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. It crystallizes in the tetragonal space group P4/mmm, Z = 1, with lattice parameters a = 4.5400(4) and c = 7.3970(7) Å, and V = 152.46(2) Å3. Electrical resistivity data show metallic behavior. Magnetic susceptibility measurements show this compound to be antiferromagnetic with TN = 5.1 K. We compare these experimental results with those of LaCoIn5 in an effort to better understand the effect of the structural trends observed on the transport and magnetic properties.

ABSTRACTLa-Ba-Cu-O and Y-Ba-Cu-O superconducting systems have been successfully prepared by gel techniques with high degree of chemical homogeneity. The precursor gel was synthesized from mixture of the corresponding metallic nitrates and di-carboxylic acids. The sintered oxides prepared from the different dicarboxylic acids were all Tc = 90K perovskite superconductors. However differences in electrical and magnetic properties were also observed. Effects due to the different acids elucidated by magnetic susceptibility measurements and X-ray diffraction analysis will be discussed.

A series of six-coordinated Ni(II) complexes, with the general formula Ni(Xan)L2 (where Xan = isoamyldithiocarbonato and L = 2-bromopyridine, 3-bromopyridine, 4-acetylpyridine, 3-hydroxypyridine and 2-methoxypyridine) are synthesized and characterized by the elemental analysis and various physicochemical techniques such as magnetic susceptibility and conductivity measurements, UV-visible and infrared spectral data. Based on the electronic spectra and magnetic susceptibility measurements, an octahedral geometry is proposed for all the complexes. IR spectral data show that in all these complexes substituted pyridines coordinate to the metal ion through nitrogen atoms occupying the fifth and sixth axial positions, whereas O-alkyldithiocarbonate acts as a monoanion bidentate ligand and occupies the planar positions of octahedral structures. The structure of the adduct with 3-bromopyridine is elucidated by the single crystal X-ray diffraction method. The complex crystallizes in the triclinic space group P-1 with unit cell parameters a = 6.5855(4) Å, b = 9.4984(6) Å, c = 12.4518(8) Å, α = 87.944(5)°, β = 78.843(5)°, γ = 77.794(5)°. The crystal structure of the molecule is stabilized by intermolecular C—H…S and C—H…π interactions.

X-ray diffraction measurement at 298 K of CdMoO4:Dy3+ showed that the molybdenum ions are tetrahedral coordinated and Cd/Dy – dodecahedral coordinated. The Dy3+ ions are randomly distributed in the unit cell, substituting the Cd2+ ones. The temperature dependence of ac and dc magnetic susceptibility showed a lack of the Curie-Weiss behaviour and a weak response to the magnetic field. The magnetization isotherms, M(H), showed a paramagnetic-diamagnetic transition at 17 K for 〈100〉 direction and at 35 K for 〈001〉 one in the magnetic field of 70 kOe. As the temperature increased this transition was moving toward smaller magnetic fields.

The thermal variation of the static magnetic susceptibility, for the Yb 1-x Ga x Ba 2 Cu 3 O 7-δ, x = 0.00; 0.01; 0.02; 0.03; 0.06 oxidic high TC superconductors was investigated. In the paramagnetic region, the reciprocal magnetic susceptibility temperature dependence is nonlinear, obeying the hyperbolic Neel law, valid for the ferromagnetic collinear magnetic structure. The effective magnetic moment value determined from the Curie constant is a giant one, suggesting the existence of Cu 3+ and Yb 6+ valence states in high TC superconducting compounds. The structural X-ray investigation revealed a homogeneous orthorhombic crystalline structure in Yb 1-x Ga x Ba 2 Cu 3 O 7-δ superconducting compounds.
