This paper explores the study of fuzzy transportation problem (FTP) using multi-choice goal-programming approach. Generally, the decision variable in transportation problem (TP) is considered as real variable, but here the decision variable in each node is chosen from a set of multi-choice fuzzy numbers. Here, we formulate a mathematical model of FTP considering fuzzy goal to the objective function. Thereafter, the solution procedure of the proposed model is developed through multi-choice goal programming approach. The proposed approach is not only improved the applicability of goal programming in real world situations but also provided useful insight about the solution of a new class of TP. A real-life numerical experiment is incorporated to analyze the feasibility and usefulness of this paper. The conclusions about our proposed work including future studies are discussed last.

This paper analyzes the study of Multiobjective Transportation Problem (MOTP) under the consideration of fuzzy decision variable. Usually, the decision variable in a Transportation Problem is taken as real variable. But, in this paper, the decision variable in each node is selected from a set of multi-choice fuzzy numbers. Inclusion of multiple objectives into transportation problem with fuzzy decision variable makes it a Multiobjective Fuzzy Transportation Problem (MOFTP). In this paper, a new formulation of mathematical model of MOFTP with fuzzy goal of each objective function is enlisted. Thereafter the solution technique of the formulated model is described through multi-choice goal programming approach. Finally, a numerical example is presented to show the feasibility and usefulness of this article.

Transportation problem (TP) is a special type of linear programming problem (LPP) where the objective is to minimize the cost of distributing a product from several sources (or origins) to some destinations. This paper addresses a transportation problem in which the costs, supplies, and demands are represented as heptagonal fuzzy numbers. After converting the problem into the corresponding crisp TP using the ranking method, a goal programming (GP) approach is applied for obtaining the optimal solution. The advantage of GP for the decision-maker is easy to explain and implement in real life transportation. The stability set of the first kind corresponding to the optimal solution is determined. A numerical example is given to highlight the solution approach.

In this paper, authors studied a goal programming approach for solving multi-objective fractional transportation problem by representing the parameters (γ, δ) in terms of interval valued fuzzy numbers. Fuzzy goal programming problem with multiple objectives is difficult for the decision makers to determine the goal valued of each objective precisely. The proposed model presents a special type of non-linear (hyperbolic) membership functions to solve multi-objective fractional transportation problem with fuzzy parameters. To illustrate the proposed method numerical examples are solved.

Purpose Due to the ever increasing concern toward sustainability, suppliers nowadays are evaluated on the basis of environmental performances. The data on supplier’s performance are not always available in quantitative form and evaluating supplier on the basis of qualitative data is a challenging task. The purpose of this paper is to develop a framework for the selection of suppliers by evaluating them on the basis of both quantitative and qualitative data. Design/methodology/approach Literature on sustainability, green supply chain and lean practices related to supplier selection is critically reviewed. Based on this, a two phase fuzzy goal programming approach integrating hyperbolic membership function is proposed to solve the complex supplier selection problem. Findings Results obtained through the proposed approach are compared to the traditional models (Jadidi et al., 2014; Ozkok and Tiryaki, 2011; Zimmermann, 1978) of supplier selection and were found to be optimal as it achieves higher aspiration level. Practical implications The proposed model is adaptive to solve real world problems of supplier selection as all criteria do not possess the same weights, so the managers can change the criteria and their weights according to their requirement. Originality/value This paper provides the decision makers a robust framework to evaluate and select sustainable supplier based on both quantitative and qualitative data. The results obtained through the proposed model achieve greater satisfaction level as compared to those achieved by traditional methods.

<p>In the present article, a mixed type transportation problem is considered. Most of the transportation problems in real life situation have mixed type transportation problem this type of transportation problem cannot be solved by usual methods. Here we attempt a new concept of Best Candidate Method (BCM) to obtain the optimal solution. To determine the compromise solution of balanced mixed fuzzy transportation problem and unbalanced mixed fuzzy transportation problem of trapezoidal and trivial fuzzy numbers with new BCM solution procedure has been applied. The method is illustrated by the numerical examples.</p>

This paper aims to design a supply chain network for producing double glazed glass from the recycling of waste glass. All three pillars of sustainability are taken into consideration. The economic objective tries to maximize total profits. The environmental objective considers the energy consumption, the generated waste, the greenhouse gas emission, the water consumption, and the fuel consumption of vehicles. The social objective addresses created job opportunities, the worker safety, the regional development, the worker benefit, and training hours. To solve the model, a two-stage framework based on the group best-worst method and an interactive fuzzy programming approach is developed. The proposed model is validated through a real case study based on waste glass management in the city of Shiraz. It is revealed that when sustainable development goals are approached, a great degree of improvement will be attained in environmental and social aspects without a significant decrease in the economic sustainability. The results also demonstrate that the locations of glass recycling centres are different under economic, environmental, and social pillars, and the proposed model yields an optimal system configuration with a proper satisfaction degree of all objectives. Moreover, applying the proposed solution procedure enables system designers to obtain the most desirable trade-off between different aspects of sustainability.
