The concepts of resistance and inductance are strewn with misunderstanding and errors that result from inaccurate terminology, mistakes in their definitions, and from the fact that they are quantities that characterize elements of ideal electrical circuits as well as real solid conductors. This is shown unfavourably not only in the respective field of the theory of electrical engineering, but also in the calculation of resistance and inductance. In this paper, a brief theoretical analysis of the state of the art is given, and its results are applied in the calculation of the current density, resistance, and inductance of two coaxial solid tubular conductors.

In this paper, a novel stratified sampling strategy is designed to accelerate the mini-batch SGD. We derive a new iteration-dependent surrogate which bound the stochastic variance from above. To keep the strata minimizing this surrogate with high probability, a stochastic stratifying algorithm is adopted in an adaptive manner, that is, in each iteration, strata are reconstructed only if an easily verifiable condition is met. Based on this novel sampling strategy, we propose an accelerated mini-batch SGD algorithm named SGD-RS. Our theoretical analysis shows that the convergence rate of SGD-RS is superior to the state-of-the-art. Numerical experiments corroborate our theory and demonstrate that SGD-RS achieves at least 3.48-times speed-ups compared to vanilla minibatch SGD.

This article presents the theoretical background for the arrangement of horn gears in maypole braiding machines in order to act as equivalent larger gears. The theoretical analysis is verified with numerical simulation and experiments. After review about the state of the art, an analysis of the process for one specific configuration of horn gears is given. This analysis demonstrates how a set of horn gears can be arranged to work as an equivalent to a larger one horn gear. The braiding equation is checked as remaining valid for such extended configurations, too. The theoretical result is verified using numerical simulation for all cases and practical validation for several variants. The theoretical rules give a clear extension of the current braiding knowledge and make the design of complex configurations of braiding machines more systematic and clear.

When applying multilevel scheme to solve the graph partitioning problem, shortcomings and limitations exist in the state-of-the-art coarsening schemes depend mainly on finding maximal matchings to obtain the coarse graphs, which can cause the multilevel algorithms to produce poor-quality solutions. This paper proposes an improved coarsening scheme by improving vertex combining strategy and edge ordering criteria. The new coarsening scheme is more effective in quality, which is proved by both theoretical analysis and experimental results.

Various authors have emphasized the spatial information resident in an electron micrograph taken with adequately coherent radiation. In view of the completion of at least one such instrument, this opportunity is taken to summarize the state of the art of processing such micrographs. We use the usual symbols for the aberration coefficients, and supplement these with £ and 6 for the transverse coherence length and the fractional energy spread respectively. He also assume a weak, biologically interesting sample, with principal interest lying in the molecular skeleton remaining after obvious hydrogen loss and other radiation damage has occurred.
