This paper proposes a new hybrid optimization method for the phase-frequency characteristics of the double input power system stabilizer (PSS) based on the improved active set algorithm. This method takes the effect of the filtering section optimization on the parameter improvement into account, and the optimized model focuses on the minimum residual sum of squares between the actual and the target phase-frequency characteristics. The result shows that the improved parameters obtained from the proposed method provide much better phase-frequency characteristics than the widely used engineering parameters. The comparison between the proposed method and the typical commercial software indicates the universal superiority of the proposed method. And the studies on the impact of considering the filter section optimization on the phase-frequency improvement show that taking the filter section optimization into account will be beneficial for the phase-frequency improvement, though in application to the PSS2A model and the PSS2B model there are some differences. The achievements obtained in this paper provide a significant reference for the practical PSS parameter modification and improvement.

Broadband acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) is widely used in agricultural water resource explorations, such as river discharge monitoring and flood warning. Improving the velocity estimation accuracy of broadband ADCP by adjusting the waveform parameters of a phase-encoded signal will reduce the velocity measurement range and water stratification accuracy, while the promotion of stratification accuracy will degrade the velocity estimation accuracy. In order to minimize the impact of these two problems on the measurement results, the ADCP waveform optimization problem that satisfies the environment constraints while keeping high velocity estimation accuracy or stratification accuracy is studied. Firstly, the relationship between velocity or distance estimation accuracy and signal waveform parameters is studied by using an ambiguity function. Secondly, the constraints of current velocity range, velocity distribution and other environmental characteristics on the waveform parameters are studied. For two common measurement applications, two dynamic configuration methods of waveform parameters with environmental adaptability and optimal velocity estimation accuracy or stratification accuracy are proposed based on the nonlinear programming principle. Experimental results show that compared with the existing methods, the velocity estimation accuracy of the proposed method is improved by more than 50%, and the stratification accuracy is improved by more than 22%.

This paper presents the analysis of a novel framework of study and the impact of different market design criterion for the generation expansion planning (GEP) in competitive electricity market incentives, under variable uncertainties in a single year horizon. As investment incentives conventionally consist of firm contracts and capacity payments, in this study, the electricity generation investment problem is considered from a strategic generation company (GENCO) ′ s perspective, modelled as a bi-level optimization method. The first-level includes decision steps related to investment incentives to maximize the total profit in the planning horizon. The second-level includes optimization steps focusing on maximizing social welfare when the electricity market is regulated for the current horizon. In addition, variable uncertainties, on offering and investment, are modelled using set of different scenarios. The bi-level optimization problem is then converted to a single-level problem and then represented as a mixed integer linear program (MILP) after linearization. The efficiency of the proposed framework is assessed on the MAZANDARAN regional electric company (MREC) transmission network, integral to IRAN interconnected power system for both elastic and inelastic demands. Simulations show the significance of optimizing the firm contract and the capacity payment that encourages the generation investment for peak technology and improves long-term stability of electricity markets.

Abstract In this paper we discuss applications of the numerical optimization methods for nonsmooth optimization, developed in [IK1] for the variational formulation of image restoration problems involving bounded variation type energy criterion. The Uzawa’s algorithm, first order augmented Lagrangian methods and Newton-like update using the active set strategy are described.

Water Supply Network (WSN) sectorization is a broadly known technique aimed at enhancing water supply management. In general, existing methodologies for sectorization of WSNs are limited to assessment of the impact of its implementation over reduction of background leakage, underestimating increased capacity to detect new leakage events and undermining appropriate investment substantiation. In this work, we raise this issue and put in place a methodology to optimize sectors' design. To this end, we carry out a novel combination of the Short Run Economic Leakage Level concept (SRELL- corresponding to leakage level that can occur in a WSN in a certain period of time and whose reparation would be more costly than the benefits that can be obtained). With a non-deterministic optimization method based on Genetic Algorithms (GAs) in combination with Monte Carlo simulation. As an example of application, methodology is implemented over a 246 km pipe-long WSN, reporting 72 397 $/year as net profit.

Traditional methods for determining airline fleet composition could not reflect the impact of network effects on fleet composition. To solve this problem for airlines operating in the mode of Hub & Spoke network, the passenger mix problem was incorporated into the model of determining airline fleet composition. The purchasing number of aircrafts in each fleet type, the frequencies of each aircraft type flying on legs and the spilling number of passengers from each itinerary were treated as decision variables. The limitations including maximum flying frequencies on each leg, available flying time each fleet type can provide and maximum passengers spilled from each flight leg were considered as constraints. A model to minimize the fleet planning cost was constructed. The numerical example shows that the fleet planning cost derived from this proposed model is 46266381.64 Yuan and reduces by 3914969.70 Yuan compared to the result from the traditional leg-based model. In hence, this proposed model is effective and feasible.

This paper introduces the system structure of computer statistical perspective virtual simulation, and establishes an application database using parameter modification and optimization method. Then, a complex computer fluid solid coupling simulation model is established by using ANSYS software, and the mining results of computer streamline 3D data is obtained by the establishment of the fluid and solid domains data interface. At the same time, the computer virtual simulation system of statistical perspective is applied to the process of handball players training index data mining, and we will get the analysis curve of computer training resistance data mining. Finally, we establish the handball training intensity parameter storage library, to provide the technical reference for the handball athletes.

Low frequency oscillation has been a major threat in large interconnected power system. These low frequency oscillations curtain the power transfer capability of the line. Power system stabilizer (PSS) helps in diminishing these low frequency oscillations by providing auxiliary control signal to the generator excitation input, thereby restoring stability of the system. In this chapter, the authors have incorporated the concept of oppositional based learning (OBL) along with differential search algorithm (DSA) to solve PSS problem. The proposed technique has been implemented on both single input and dual input PSS, and comparative study has been done to show the supremacy of the proposed techniques. The convergence characteristics as well authenticate the sovereignty of the considered algorithms.
