In mental health settings, not all survivors of sexual assault will present due to concerns related to their sexual assault, and even among those who do, some may not disclose this history without prompting. Given the prevalence of sexual abuse and sexual assault, all clients should be screened for a history of exposure to these experiences. A wide range of self-report and interview measures are available for this purpose; a brief overview of measures available for both child and adult populations is provided. In this chapter, considerations for choosing assessment measures are discussed to help providers select appropriate measures to use in their clinical practice. In particular, this chapter provides information about how language in assessment measures may affect disclosure from clients. Finally, this chapter provides recommendations for reacting to client disclosures during an assessment.

Abstract: A revision of observational and cognitive assessment measures for a population with social anxiety. Nowadays, a considerable number of self-report instruments assess cognitive and observational aspects of social anxiety disorder which makes it difficult for researchers and clinicians to remain actualized. To bridge this gap, this study concerns revising existing instruments of social anxiety measures, specifically observational and cognitive assessment tools for a population with social anxiety. The findings reveal that, notwithstanding existing instruments, further studies are needed that examine psychometric properties in different ranges of age, culture, and populations.

The literature concerning the assessment of posttrauma reactions is well developed for adults, but this is not so for children and adolescents, especially young children. This chapter covers some key trauma-assessment issues in the child and adolescent population, which includes derivation and validation problems, the influence of developmental factors, applicability of current diagnostic classification, and the use of multiple informants. The range of available assessment measures is then reviewed, including semi-structured and self-report measures of posttraumatic stress disorder, acute stress disorder, and dissociation. Available screening measures and physiological measures are also reviewed. Directions for future work in this area are made.
