Boiler control in a power station is a very important criteria in regulation of uninterrupted electricity. In existing power plants, the control of its features and parameters are done by PI and PD controllers. The parameters that control the regulation of boiler conduction are drum level, steam flow, feed water flow, steam temperature and light intensity. It is necessary to produce the steam required to run the generator. When the load in the generator changes, there must be corresponding change in the steam volume. This may cause adverse effect in the boiler. In order to avoid the effect in the boiler, the parameters mentioned above must be maintained constant, which is attained by regulating the corresponding valves. This project work has a feasibility of using fuzzy logic controllers in the place of conventional controllers is done by using embedded system. It is found that the rule based fuzzy logic technique can be implemented by stringent operating conditions.

A smart fin for a subsonic projectile should be able to produce maneuvering force and moment that can control its rotation during flight. Piezoelectric actuator is an attractive alternative to usual hydraulic actuators due to its simplicity. The cantilever-shaped actuator can also be fully enclosed within the hollow fin. It has an end fixed to the rotation axle of the fin while the other end is pinned at the tip of the fin. A dynamic model of the system, including external moment due to aerodynamic effects, is obtained using the finite element approach. This paper presents a novel approach for automatically creating fuzzy logic controllers for the fin. This approach uses the inverse dynamics of the smart fin system to determine the ranges of the variables of the controllers. Simulation results show that the proposed controller can successfully drive smart fin under various operating conditions.

The objective of this paper is to explore a method for the design of fuzzy logic controller for a smart fin used to control the pitch and yaw attitudes of a subsonic projectile during flight. Piezoelectric actuators are an attractive alternative to hydraulic actuators commonly used in this application due to their simplicity. The proposed cantilever-shaped actuator can be fully enclosed within the hollow fin with one end fixed to the rotation axle of the fin while the other end is pinned at the trailing edge of the fin. The paper includes a dynamic model of the system based on the finite element approach. The model includes external moment due to aerodynamic effects. This paper presents a novel approach for automatically creating fuzzy logic controllers for the fin. This approach uses the inverse dynamics of the smart fin system to determine the ranges of the variables of the controllers. Simulation results show that the proposed controller can successfully drive smart fin under various operating conditions.

In this work, a tool to predict the performance of fossil fuel steam power plants under variable operating conditions or under maintenance operations has been developed. This tool is based on the Spencer-Cotton-Cannon method for large steam turbine generator units. The tool has been validated by comparing the predicted results at different loads with real operating data of a 565 MW steam power plant, located in Southern Spain. The results obtained from the model show a good agreement with most of the power plant parameters. The simulation tool has been then used to predict the performance of a steam power plant in different operating conditions such as variable terminal temperature difference or drain cooler approach of the feed-water heaters, or under maintenance conditions like a feed-water heater out of service.

Due to the importance of the drive system reliability, several diagnostic methods have been investigated for the SSTPI-IM association in the literature. Based on the normalized currents and the current vector slope, this paper investigates a fuzzy diagnostic method for this association. The fuzzy logic technique is appealed in order to process the diagnosis variable symptoms and the faulty IGBT information. Indeed, the design, inputs, and rules of the fuzzy logic are distinct compared with the other existing diagnostic methods. The proposed fuzzy diagnostic method allows the best efficient detection and identification of the single and phase OCF of the SSTPI-IM association. Accordingly, after the fault detection and identification using this proposed FLC diagnostic method, a reconfiguration step of IGBT OCFs must be applied in order to compensate for these faults and ensure the drive system continuity. This reconfiguration is based on the change of the SSTPI-IM topology to the FSTPI-IM topology by activating or deactivating the used relays. Several simulation results utilizing a direct RFOC controlled SSTPI-IM drive system are investigated, showing the fuzzy diagnostic and reconfiguration methods’ performances, their robustness, and their fast fault detection during distinct operating conditions.

This paper presents a novel approach for automatically creating anti-swing fuzzy logic controllers for overhead cranes with hoisting. This approach uses the inverse dynamics of the overhead crane to determine the ranges of the variables of the controllers. The control action is distributed among three fuzzy logic controllers (FLCs): travel controller, hoist controller, and anti-swing controller. Simulation examples show that the proposed controller can successfully drive overhead cranes under various operating conditions.

In this paper the use of the proportional integral (PI) algorithm incorporated with the fuzzy logic technique has been proposed as advanced gain scheduling load frequency control (GLFC) in two-area power systems. The proposed controller comprises two-level control systems, such that it consists of a pure integral compensator which is connected in parallel with a PI controller. However, and based on load demand, the PI parameters are updated online by means of fuzzy logic rules. With this control technique it becomes possible to eliminate steady state errors as well as to maintain good transient responses. The task of keeping a stable and overall satisfactory mode of operation in interconnected electric power systems is the main goal of any control strategy. This should be guaranteed over a wide range of operating conditions and particularly in sudden and drastic load changes. Therefore, the suggested approach has been examined following abnormal changes in loading conditions to clarify its reliability. The report also investigates the performance of the pure integral (I) controller and GLFC in individual configurations to highlight the advantages of the offered algorithm over the standard ones. The criterion of integral square error (ISE) has been exploited in the performance assessment for the designed controllers. Several simulation scenarios have been conducted, using the MATLAB–Simulink package, to illustrate the proficiency of the developed technique.

Various methods are used in thermal power plants to adjust the superheated or reheated steam temperature to a pre-determined set point, including flue gas recirculation, using tilting burners and spray of water from discharge of feed water pump, etc. In this paper, an innovative method is presented to control the reheater temperature by tapping water from an interstage of the feed water pump to control reheater temperature at the Bisotoun Power Plant (a steam cycle based power plant in the western Iran). The spray water for the superheaters is secured from the discharge of feed water pump, but interstage water, instead of gas recirculation or using tilting burner, is used to control the reheater temperature. The total cycle is simulated with this arrangement and the results are compared with power plant actual data. Here, the variation of pump head and its power consumption is investigated as well. The tapped water requirement is calculated in terms of controlling reheat steam temperature at different loads.

This paper proposes fuzzy logic controllers for enhancing the small signal stability of DFIG-based wind integrated power system. The test system used is single machine infinite bus system integrated with conventional proportional-integral controllers. The fuzzy logic controllers provide optimum proportional and integral gains under various operating conditions namely wind speed and grid strength. The effects of strong and weak grid strengths have been taken into account with short circuit level of 40 MVA and 16 MVA, respectively. The obtained result justifies that the damping ratio and there by the small signal stability of such a system have been enhanced considerably by the action of fuzzy logic controllers. The generalization can be enlarged to multi-machine systems in various dynamic conditions. Keywords : Doubly Fed Induction Generator, small signal stability, state space model, eigenvalue analysis, fuzzy logic based tuning circuits

The design of gas turbine heat recovery boiler systems is based on several engineering and economic parameters that require lengthy iterative calculations. Computer programs have been developed which reduce the time factor and provide the optimum design for a given set of exhaust conditions and steam requirements. This paper describes programs which provide an installed cost estimate that can be used to evaluate the affect of variations in boiler pinch point, back pressure, stack temperature, superheated steam temperature, feed water approach temperature, and supplementary firing for any gas turbine heat recovery application. Another program provides operating performance of the selected boiler design through a range of exhaust conditions due to ambient or load changes, and also for changes in the steam capacity or pressure requirements. Data from this program is used to plot performance “maps” for the full range of “off-design” operating conditions.

This paper presents a novel method for adaptive anti-swing fuzzy logic control for overhead cranes with hoisting. The control action is distributed between three fuzzy logic controllers (FLC’s): trolley controller, hoist controller, and anti-swing controller. A method for varying the ranges of the variables of the three controllers as a function of the crane’s parameters and/or motion variables is presented. Simulation examples show that the proposed controller can successfully drive overhead cranes under various operating conditions.
