AbstractSix species of the genus Enchodelus, one new and five known, from natural areas in Romania were studied. Enchodelus transsilvanicus sp. n. is distinguished by its 1.28-1.51 mm long body, lip region moderately angular and 12.5-13.5 μm in diam., odontostyle 29-34 μm long or 2.1-2.6 times the lip region diam., odontophore lacking distinct flanges and 41-45 μm long or 1.2-1.6 times the odontostyle, neck length 272-298 μm, pharyngeal expansion 82-113 μm long and occupying 31-39% of total neck length, female genital system amphidelphic, uterus bipartite and 3.1-3.5 times body diam. at its level, pars refringens vaginae with two distinct sclerotisations, vulva a transverse slit (V = 45-48), female tail conical and regularly ventrad curved (42-47 μm, c = 28-36, c′ = 1.3-1.5), spicules 47-50 μm long, and 6-8 spaced, ventromedian supplements. Measurements, illustrations and additional data of the remaining five species are given, namely E. arcuatus, E. brevidentatus, E. geraldi, E. morgensis and E. veletensis. An emended diagnosis of E. arcuatus is provided. Three species, E. brevidentatus, E. morgensis and E. veletensis, are reported from Romania for the first time.

Abstract Three species of the genus Enchodelus, one new and two known, from natural areas in Romania are studied. Enchodelus carpaticus sp. n. is distinguished by its body 1.59-1.87 mm long, lip region offset by a marked depression and 17-20 μm diam., odontostyle 39.5-47 μm long and 2.1-2.5 lip region diam. or 2.3-2.8% of total body length, odontophore 42-51 μm long and with distinct basal flanges, neck 336-388 μm long, pharyngeal expansion 136-167 μm long or 39-45% of total neck length, presence of dorsal cell mass near cardia, female genital system amphidelphic, uterus tripartite and 144-195 μm long or 2.2-2.9 times the corresponding body diam., pars refringens vaginae with two trapezoidal sclerotisations, V = 42-50, and female tail short and rounded (21-29 μm long, c = 55-87, c′ = 0.5-0.7). Additional data, including LM pictures, are presented for E. macrodorus and E. saxifragae.

AbstractTwo known and two new species belonging to the genus Thonus, namely T. angulosus sp. n., T. circulifer, T. cylindricus and T. diversus sp. n., collected from several locations in Romania, are described. Thonus angulosus sp. n. is characterised by body 1.53-1.75 mm long, lip region cap-like (i.e., with its inner perioral area elevated) and 12.5 μm diam., odontostyle 13-16 μm long or slightly longer (ca 1.2 times) than lip region diam., neck 335-385 μm long, pharyngeal expansion ca two-fifths of total neck length, female genital system amphidelphic, uterus 1.1-1.7 body diam. long, pars refringens vaginae with two widely separated triangular pieces, vulva a post-equatorial (V = 54-60) longitudinal slit, glands present near the vagina-vulva junction, female tail rounded to convex conoid (30-35 μm, c= 48-56, c′ = 0.8-1.0), and males unknown. Thonus diversus sp. n. is characterised by body 1.41-1.78 mm long in females and 1.33-1.96 mm in males, lip region offset by depression or weak constriction and 15-17.5 μm diam., odontostyle 15-17 μm long and 5.5-6.8 as long as wide, neck 350-410 μm long, pharyngeal expansion occupying 40-48% of total neck length, a ring-like structure surrounding the pharyngeal base-cardia junction, uterus 1.5-3.6 body diam. long, pars refringens vaginae with two closely arranged pieces, vulva a post-equatorial (V = 54-57) transverse slit, gland cells present near the vagina-vulva junction, tail rounded-conoid to rounded (18-23 μm, c = 68-87, c′ = 0.6-0.8 in females; 18-24 μm, c = 58-89, c′ = 0.6-0.8 in males) with abundant saccate bodies and with inner cuticle layer separated from outer layer, spicules 46.5-54 μm long and 4-7 separated ventromedian supplements. Thonus cylindricus is reported for the first time in Europe and T. circulifer is new record for the Romanian nematode fauna. Descriptions, measurements, illustrations, including SEM pictures of T. diversus sp. n. and distribution data of the species are provided.

Enchodelus parahopedoroides sp. n. is distinguished by its 1.44-1.64 mm long body, lip region offset by a marked depression and 17-18.5 μm in diam., odontostyle 26-29 μm or 1.5-1.6 lip region diam. long and 1.6-2.0% of total body length, odontophore 40-43 μm long and with distinct basal knobs and flanges, neck length 300-328 μm, pharyngeal expansion 120-130 μm long or 39-41% of total neck length, female genital system amphidelphic, uterus long and tripartite, pars refringens vaginae with two trapezoidal sclerotisations, V= 45-52, tail rounded conoid (20-24 μm long, c = 63-80, c′ = 0.6-0.8), spicules 59-67 μm long, and nine spaced ventromedian supplements starting shortly in front or at level of anterior end of spicules. Enchodelus lucinensis and E. ponorensis are redescribed based on a study of type material. Measurements and additional data are provided for E. longispiculus, which is reported from Romania for the first time.

Summary A new species belonging to the genus Aporcella, collected in cultivated soils of East Azarbaijan province, Iran, is described and illustrated. The new species is characterised by its 1.08 (1.05-1.15) mm long body, two-layered cuticle, lip region offset by constriction and 12 (11-13) μm broad, odontostyle 13.0 (12.5-14.0) μm long or nearly equal to lip region diam., neck 310 (293-325) μm long, pharyngeal expansion 137 (128-144) μm long, occupying 43-45% of the total neck length, female genital system didelphic-amphidelphic, uterus simple, 34-48 μm long, vulva transverse (V = 59 (58-61)), tail conical with finely rounded terminus (30 (29-33) μm long, c = 34 (33-36), c′ = 1.5 (1.4-1.6)), and male absent. Molecular analyses, using Bayesian inference based on partial LSU sequences, confirm the monophyly of Aporcella as well as its clustering with other dorylaimid taxa characterised by the absence of pars refringens vaginae. The taxonomy of the genus is updated, with an emended diagnosis, list of species, key to their identification, and a compendium of the main morphometrics of species/populations described since the last available revision.

A new species of the genus Tylencholaimus, collected in natural areas of Iran, is described and illustrated, including SEM observations. Tylencholaimus discus sp. n. is characterized by its 0.65–0.76 mm long body, lip region offset by weak constriction and 7–7.5 µm broad with a conspicuous perioral disc, odontostyle 6–7 µm long, odontophore 9–10.5 µm long and visibly flanged rather than knobbed, neck 230–259 µm long with anterior region weakly muscular and basal expansion 98–125 µm long or occupying 42–49% of total neck length, female genital system mono-prodelphic, posterior branch reduced to a uterine sac 2–20 µm long or much shorter (0.1–0.6 times) than body diameter but very occasionally consisting of uterus, sphincter and a small terminal mass all together measuring 35–40 µm long, V = 65–74, tail short and rounded (13–17 µm, c = 41–57, c’ = 0.6–0.8), and male unknown.

Thonus tenuistylus sp. n. is characterised by its body length of 1.17-1.56 mm, lip region offset by a more or less, usually well, marked constriction and 16-17.5 μm diam., slender odontostyle 17-20.5 μm long or 1.1-1.3 times lip region diam., neck 275-397 μm long, pharyngeal expansion occupying 42-52% of total neck length, female genital system amphidelphic, uterus bipartite and 1.7-2 body diam. long, pars refringens vaginae with two adjacent pieces, vulva a post-equatorial (V = 50-56) transverse slit, tail conoid-rounded (19-24 μm, c = 48.7-72.9, c′ = 0.8-1.0) and with abundant blister-like structures, spicules 38-43 μm long, and 3-6 widely spaced ventromedian supplements. Thonus sp. is characterised by its slender (a = 37.5) body 1.41 mm long, lip region practically continuous with adjacent body and 11.5 μm diam., odontostyle 10.5 μm long, neck 325 μm long, pharyngeal expansion 138 μm long or ca two-fifths of total neck length, a coarse ring-like structure surrounding cardia, female genital system amphidelphic, uterus ca 2.5 body diam. long, pars refringens vaginae with two adjacent trapezoidal pieces, vulva a transverse slit (V = 52), a pseudocoelomocyte present at mid-body, tail convex conoid (26.5 μm, c = 56, c′ = 1.1) with abundant blister-like structures, and males unknown. Thonus eroshenkoi n. comb. and T. medianus n. comb. are proposed. Thonus kaszabi and T. medianus n. comb. are new records for the Romanian nematode fauna.

AbstractTwo new species of the genus Discolaimus Cobb, 1913 are described from southeastern Spain. D. mariae sp. n. is distinguished by its large size (L = 2.4-3.3 mm), lip region diameter 29-35 μm, odontostyle 23-25 μm, pharyngeal expansion occupying two-thirds of the total neck length, presence of dorsal cell bodies close to cardia, V = 46-53, female genital system didelphicamphidelphic, tail conical with rounded terminus (33-39 μm, c = 72-88, c′ = 0.9-1.0) and with a terminal gap in the inner cuticle, and males absent. D. labiatus sp. n. is characterised by being medium sized (L = 0.99-1.20 mm), lip region diameter 14-17 μm wide, labial disc with no radial but six longitudinal grooves, inner (perioral) labial portion forming well developed liplets, odontostyle 10.0-12.5 μm, vulva relatively anterior (V = 39-43), female tail conical with rounded terminus (26-27 μm, c = 37-46, c′ = 1.5-1.7), and male unknown. Scanning electron microscope observations of the species are also presented.

Crassolabium unicum sp. n., collected from a natural habitat in Vietnam, is described and illustrated. The new species is characterized by its 0.77–0.94 mm long body, three-layered cuticle, lip region offset by depression and 12–13.5 µm broad, odontostyle 13.5–15 µm long with wide aperture occupying 36–46% of its length, neck 235–260 µm long, pharyngeal expansion 117–131 µm long or occupying 47–52% of total neck length, anterior part of intestine presenting very distinct folds, female genital system didelphic-amphidelphic, uterus simple and 28–43 µm or 0.7–0.9 body diameters, vulva transverse (V = 45–52), prerectum bearing a blind postrectal sac, caudal region short and rounded (21–25 µm, c = 45–61, c’ = 0.6–0.8) with two (dorsal and ventral) lacunae between outer and intermediate cuticle layers, and male unknown. It is compared with the similar representatives of the genus.

AbstractEcanema gen. n. is described from natural forest in Costa Rica. The new genus is characterised by having distinctly offset lip region, separate lips with distinctly projecting labial papillae, attenuated odontostyle, pharynx rather sac-like, apparently divisible into three regions, large S1N1, distinct cardiac glands, amphidelphic female genital system, short conoid tail and supplements beginning within the range of spicules in males. The type and only species, E. ecae sp. n., is characterised by having 0.87-0.98 mm long body; 19.5-20.5 μm long odontostyle; expanded part of pharynx comprising 36-41% of total neck length; pars refringens vaginae sclerotised and about one anal body diam. long, and conoid tail with acute terminus.

Nine species of Hatschekiidae are (re-)described from Japanese actinopterygian fishes belonging to Ophidiiformes, Beryciformes and Scorpaeniformes. They are Hatschekia anomalis sp. nov., Hatschekia bifurcata Yamaguti & Yamasu, 1959, H. couardi Nunes-Ruivo, 1954, H. fusiformis Shiino, 1957, H. hoplobrotulae sp. nov., H. multibarbatae sp. nov., H. tenuis (Heller, 1865), Prohatschekia awatati (Yamaguti, 1939), and P. neobythitesi sp. nov. The first species is recovered from an unusual site of the host. In H. couardi and P. awatati the males are described for the first time and the possession of the naked first antennular segment is confirmed in both sexes of these species. The Hatschekiidae have paired seminal receptacles in the female and adopt the eudactylinid type of insemination mode, though exhibiting variation of the insemination procedure. It can be concluded that the insemination modes link up with the female genital system in the Siphonostomatoida.
