AbstractIn Lepidoptera wing reduction is usually restricted to the females. We report a rare case of male brachyptery in the genus Xenomigia Warren, 1906 (Notodontidae: Dioptinae) from the high Andes of Venezuela. At the same time this is the first case of wing reduction in the family Notodontidae (Noctuoidea). The new species Xenomigia brachyptera sp. n. is described and the adult, male genitalia and other structures of the adult morphology are illustrated. Some aspects of wing reduction in Lepidoptera are discussed.

The Neotropical water scavenger beetle genus Chasmogenus Sharp, 1882 is a diverse lineage with 34 described species. Here, three new species from the southwestern margin of the Guiana Shield are described using an integrative approach combining adult morphology and molecular data: Chasmogenus clinatus sp. n. (Brazil: Amazonas, Venezuela: Amazonas), C. gironae sp. n. (Venezuela: Amazonas), and C. inpa sp. n. (Brazil: Amazonas). Examination of the male genitalia is essential for confident identifications and thus unassociated females may prove extremely difficult to identify. New distributional records in Brazil for C. acuminatus Smith & Short, 2020 are provided as well as habitus images of newly described species and an updated key to the species from Venezuela, Suriname, Guyana, French Guiana and northern Brazil.

A survey of copepods from intertidal zone of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman resulted in discovery of three new species belonging to the family Canuellidae Lang, 1944. This work contributes to the final aim to describe meiobenthic copepods from this region and is the first description of meiobenthic copepods from Iranian coastline. The new species belong to the genera Brianola Monard, 1926, Canuella, T. & A. Scott, 1893, and Scottolana Huys, 2009. Compared to other congeners, Brianola haliensis sp. nov. is unique in the armature of the first leg, number of segments and setation of the antennary endopod and exopod. Canuella persica sp. nov. is easily distinguishable from its congeners by the shape of furcal rami and male genitalia. Scottolana gomezi sp. nov. is assigned to the longipes-group by the presence of two and three post-genital somites in the female and male, respectively. It is closely related to S. geei (Mu & Huys, 2004) recorded from the Bohai Sea, China, but can be distinguished by its eight-segmented antennary exopod, mouthparts setation, and shape of the furcal rami.

The Australian species of the small heterogastrid genus Parathyginus Scudder, 1957 have been reviewed, resulting in the establishment of the junior subjective synonymy of P. doddi (Distant, 1918) with P. signifer (Walker, 1872), and the description of two new species, P. australis sp. nov. and P. acuminatus sp. nov. A redescription of the genus is provided with emphasis on male and female genitalia characters, along with a key to all included Australian species. Male genitalia, particularly the details of the aedeagus, have been rarely studied in this genus or for that matter the family Heterogastridae particularly due to the difficulty in inflating the inflatable sections. In this study, therefore, an attempt was made to fully inflate and describe the aedeagus of all the species included in this contribution, as well as of Heterogaster urticae (Fabricius, 1775), the type species of the oldest genus Heterogaster Schilling, 1829, of the family Heterogastridae.

The Fedrizziidae are the most diverse group of mites associated with passalid beetles in Australia. Herein, I re-diagnose the family, genera and species, and describe ten new species from Australia, Indonesia and Thailand: Fedrizzia abradoalves sp. nov., F. gilloglyi sp. nov., F. parvipilus sp. nov., Neofedrizzia bunyas sp. nov., N. gordoni sp. nov., N. helenae sp. nov., N. imparmentum sp. nov., N. janae sp. nov., N. lepas sp. nov. and N. sulawesi sp. nov. Fedrizzia strandi (Oudemans), Neofedrizzia leonilae Rosario & Hunter, Neofedrizzia tani Pope & Chernoff and Neofedrizzia vitzthumi (Oudemans) are re-described. Neofedrizzia bicornis Karg is a junior synonym of Neofedrizzia scutata Womersley, which is also transferred to Fedrizzia. Fedrizzia unospina Karg is a junior synonym of Fedrizzia carabi Womersley. Fedrizzia gloriosa Berlese is transferred to Neofedrizzia. The specimens described by Womersley as Fedrizzia sp. cf. grossipes represent specimens of Fedrizzia sellnicki Womersley. Parafedrizzia buloloensis Womersley is recorded from Australia for the first time. A key to adult male and female Fedrizziidae and a summary of host records is provided.

A new species, Paraedes jambulingami, is described from Assam, northeastern India. The adult male and female are described in detail and an illustration of the male is provided. This species is easily distinguished from all known species of the genus Paraedes by the presence of broad silvery or golden scales on the paratergite and the outer arm of the basal mesal lobe of the male genitalia bearing a long, flattened blade-like seta. Dichotomous keys are provided for the identification of the adult females and males of the five species of the genus that are known to occur in India.

The first record of the genus Sinotympana Lee, 2009 from Vietnam is presented. Sinotympana caobangensis sp. nov. (Hemiptera: Cicadidae) from Phia Oac—Phia Den National Park, Cao Bang Province, northern Vietnam is described as new. Photographs of an adult male, illustrations of the male genitalia, a distribution map and biological data for Sinotympana caobangensis sp. nov. are provided.

AbstractA new genus, Archepiolus, and a new species, schmidi, belonging to the family Neopseustidae and suborder Dacnonypha are described in this paper. This genus and species occupy a very primitive position in the Neopseustidae. The venation shows the most primitive features in all the Dacnonypha; also the male genitalia show a more primitive condition than that of Neopseustis meyricki Hering. Some aspects of the male genitalia are close to Mnesarchaea paracorma Meyrick of the Mnesarchaeidae.The discovery of this moth provides new morphological evidence on the problem of the ancestors of the Dacnonypha and of all Lepidoptera.

Lobesia bisacca Charoensub and Pinkaew, n.sp., is described from Thailand. Specimens were collected in light traps in Trat Province, eastern Thailand and were deposited in the Kasetsart Kamphaengsaen Insect Collection. The new species can be distinguished from all other congeners by the unusual, long, protruding process from the base of the sacculus in the male genitalia. Illustrations of the adult, male genitalia, and male secondary characters are provided.

The genus Vansoniella gen. n. is established to accommodate the species V.chirindensis sp. n., collected in Zimbabwe by Van Son in 1937. The new species differs externally from other African taxa by translucent fore- and hindwings in the male sex. The wing venation is highly derived and the male genitalia are also structurally different from other genera. The genus occupies an isolated position within the family.
