New data on fossil mimarachnids (Hemiptera, Fulgoromorpha, Fulgoroidea) in mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber

Mimarachnidae is an extinct planthopper family of the superfamily Fulgoroidea, with ten genera from the Cretaceous of Eurasia. Here, we describe a new genus, Cretodorus gen. nov. and two new species, Cretodorus granulatus sp. nov. and C. angustus sp. nov., on the basis of four specimens from the mid-Cretaceous amber of northern Myanmar. This remarkable genus can be separated from all other mimarachnids as follows: moderately elongate head, anteriorly protruded pronotum with straight lateral carinae, and unbranched MP of tegmen. Additionally, a new species of Burmissus Shcherbakov, 2017, Burmissus latimaculatus sp. nov., is described from the same Burmese amber, and the morphological characters of Burmissus szwedoi Luo, Jiang, Wang & Xiao, 2020 are supplemented for pronotum, clypeus, rostrum, and legs. These new discoveries enrich the palaeodiversity of mimarachnid planthoppers to fifteen species, ten of which are described from the mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber, suggesting that this extinct family remained highly diverse during this period.

A new genus and species, Unguitarsonemus paradoxus n. gen., n. sp. and a new species, Pseudotarsonemoides peruviensis n. sp. (Acari: Trombidiformes: Tarsonemidae), are described based on phoretic females collected on bark beetles Phloeotribus pilula and Ph. biguttatus, respectively, from Peru. A key to species of the genus Pseudotarsonemoides is provided.

AbstractThe new lichen genus Sergipea M. Cáceres, Ertz & Aptroot is described in the Roccellaceae, based on the new species Sergipea aurata M. Cáceres, Ertz & Aptroot from NE Brazil. The species was found in a remnant of Atlantic transition forest in Sergipe. It is similar in many respects to species of the genus Enterographa, but it is characterized by bright orange stromata, due to the presence of an anthraquinone, and a thallus with a somewhat byssoid hypothallus. Phylogenetically it is close to the genera Dichosporidium and Erythrodecton. The phylogenetic position of the generic type of Dichosporidium confirms the close relationship of the genus to Erythrodecton in the basal branch of the Roccellaceae. A new species of Enterographa is also described from NE Brazil. Enterographa rotundata E. L. Lima, M. Cáceres & Aptroot has solitary, round apothecia, which is unusual in this genus with mainly elongated apothecia or punctiform apothecia arranged in lines. It was found in Caatinga forest in Pernambuco.

Pseudosynaleurodicus gen. n. is described with two new species, P. mayoi sp. n. and P. nigrimarginatus sp. n. These new taxa have some exceptional morphological characters, including emarginate bulla-like terminal tarsal segments, two segmented legs, and features of the vasiform orifice. Placement of these taxa in the Aleurodicinae is tentative given some of their extraordinary morphological characters.

AbstractSix species of Oniscidea have previously been recorded from Lord Howe Island: Ligia australiensis, Tasmanoniscus evansi, Australophiloscia nichollsi, Australiodillo insularis, Australiodillo primitivus, and Orthodillo chiltoni. The following new taxa from Lord Howe Island are here described: Trichorhina sp., two new species of Anchicubaris, four new species of Australiodillo, seven new species of Cubaris, a new species each of Pseudodiploexochus and Pyrgoniscus, and a new genus and species Sphenodillo agnostos. The presence of Actaecia bipleura (Lewis & Green, 1995) is noted. A key to the species of Armadillidae of Lord Howe Island is given.

The Australian Gomphidae belong in the subfamilies Ictinogomphinae and Gomphinae. The three ictinogomphine species are placed in the widespread genus Ictinogomphus Cowley: I. australis (Selys), I. dobsoni (Watson), and a new species, I. paulini. The gomphine genera are endemic, and fall into two groups, the Hemigomphus and Austrogomphus groups. The first contains Hemigomphus Selys [H. comitatus (Tillyard), H. gouldii (Selys), H. heteroclytus Selys (type species), plus four new species, H. atratus, H. cooloola, H. magela, H. theischingeri], Armagomphus Carle [type- and only species A. armiger (Tillyard)] and the new genus Odontogomphus, comprising two new species, O. donnellyi (type species) and O. longipositor. ABSTRACTA new genus and species of felid, Ginsburgsmilus napakensis, is described from Napak, Uganda. Material from Songhor, Kenya, previously identified as Afrosmilus turkanae by Schmidt-Kittler (1987) is assigned to this species. A new species of Afrosmilus, A. hispanicus, is described from Artesilla, Spain. These new felid species combine sabre-tooth canines of maochairodont type with cheek teeth similar to those of Pseudailurus. Phylogenetically they are close to Afrosmilus turkanae which shows a greater specialisation towards markedly machairodont forms. On the basis of dental features, we propose a close relationship between these two genera (which we group into the new tribe Afrosmilini) and the tribe Barbourofelini (Sansanosmilus and Barbourofelis), the transition between the two being represented in the fossil record by Prosansanosmilus peregrinus Heizmann et al. 1980.

A new alysiine genus (Braconidae, Alysiinae, Alysiini) from SE China, Dacnulysia gen. nov. (type species: D. chaenomastax sp. nov.) with aberrant mandible and head shape is described and illustrated. A new species of the genus Phaenocarpa Foerster, 1863, with an aberrant ovipositor, P. platychora sp. nov., from SE China is included as type species in a new subgenus, Clistalysia nov. A key to the subgenera of Phaenocarpa Foerster is included; Idiolexis Foerster, 1863, and Kahlia Ashmead, 1900, are recognised as valid subgenera.

The infraorder Thalassinidea Latreille, 1831 [sensu stricto] includes three families: Thalassinidae Latreille, 1831; Upogebiidae Borradaile, 1903; and Laomediidae De Haan, 1849 (cf. Sakai & Sawada, 2006). However, recent examination of material from Kuwait in the Pershian Gulf, showed the occurence of a new species,Kuwaitupogebia nithyanandangen. et sp. nov., and this has made it possible to establish a new family, Kuwaitupogebiidae fam. nov., based on that new genus. The genusUpogebiaLeach, 1814 is known to include nine species from the Red Sea area, yet herein two new species,Upogebiaspongicolasp. nov. from the Reef at Hurghada, Red Sea, Egypt, andUpogebia jizanensissp. nov. from off Jizan, Saudi Arabia, Red Sea, can be added, based on material lodged in the collections of the museum in Frankfurt a. M.

A new genusSinonissusgen. n.of the tribe Issini (Issidae, Issinae) with a new speciesSinonissusbrunetussp. n.from Chongqing municipality and Sichuan Province, China are described. Barcode of the species is provided. A molecular analysis combined with morphological characters confirms its placement into the Issini. Distribution of this new genus in the Oriental realm is briefly discussed in regard of other Issinae taxa in China.
