A new species of Skeletocutis (Polyporales, Basidiomycota) from Yunnan of China

A new species of Polyporales, named as Skeletocutis yunnanensis, was collected on angiosperm wood in northern Yunnan Province, southwestern China. It is described based on morphological characteristics and molecular evidence. The species belongs to the Skeletocutis subincarnata complex, but differs morphologically from all known species of the genus by white, cream to buff pores surface, angular pores mostly 5–6 per mm with entire mouths, a dimitic hyphal structure both in trama and subiculum, generative hyphae in whole basidiocarps covered by fine crystals, skeletal hyphae unchanged in KOH, not agglutinated, allantoid basidiospores measured as 3.5–4.5 × 1.0–1.2 µm, and growth on angiosperm wood. Phylogenetic analysis based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions and nuclear large subunit (nLSU) ribosomal RNA gene regions indicated that the new species grouped with Skeletocutis and nested in the tyromyces clade.

A new polypore, Ceriporia albomellea, collected from tropical China, is described and illustrated based on morphological characteristics and molecular evidence. It is characterized by thin, resupinate basidiome with a white subiculum, cottony margin, white to cinnamon-buff pores, clavate cystidia and oblong-ellipsoid basidiospores measured as 3.1–3.8 × 1.7–2 µm. Phylogenetic analysis based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions and nuclear large subunit (nLSU) ribosomal RNA gene regions supported C. albomellea as a distinctive species belonging to Ceriporia.

A new polypore, Daedalea americana, collected from North and Central America, is described and illustrated based on morphological characters and molecular evidence. It is characterized by annual and pileate basidiocarps, grayish brown with brown to cinnamon brown band and concentrically zonate pileal surface when fresh, cream to clay-pink pore surface, circular to angular pores (4–5 per mm) and ellipsoid basidiospores measured as 4.0–5.1 × 2.1–3.0 µm. Phylogenetic analysis based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions and nuclear large subunit (nLSU) ribosomal RNA gene regions support D. americana as a distinctive species belonging to Daedalea.

Based on morphological and molecular data, a new species of Albatrellus sensu stricto, A. alpinus sp. nov., is described from Yunnan Province of southwestern China. Albatrellus alpinus is characterized by a buff to pale yellow pileal surface, simple septate hyphae, yellow and shapeless oily substance present in all hyphae but seldom in tramal hyphae, and small amyloid basidiospores. Phylogenetic analyses based on the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (nrITS) and the large subunit of the nuclear ribosomal RNA gene (nLSU) indicated that the new species is nested within Albatrellus sensu stricto. A key to the Chinese species of Albatrellus sensu stricto is provided.

A new species of Amanita subgenus Amanita sect. Vaginatae is described and illustrated based on material collected in pine forests in district Mansehra, Khyber Pakhtoonkhaw, Pakistan. Amanita mansehraensis is recognized by the presence of a light brown or light greyish olive pileus with strong brown or deep brown pileus center; non-appendiculate, rimose, sulcate or plicate striate pileus margin; subglobose to ellipsoid basidiospores; and a saccate volva. The internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) and large subunit of the nuclear ribosomal RNA gene (nrLSU) were used for the delimitation of this species based on sequence data. The evolutionary relationships of A. mansehraensis with other species of Amanita were inferred by means of Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian inferences of the nrLSU dataset and concatenated ITS+nrLSU dataset. Amanita mansehraensis is most closely related to A. brunneofuliginea, A. pseudovaginata, and the recently described A. glarea.

During survey on rock-inhabiting fungi from karst habitats in Guizhou, China, two new species in Cyphellophora were discovered and identified. Phylogenetic analysis based on combined sequences of the nuclear large subunit (nucLSU) and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of ribosomal DNA revealed that the tested isolates, clustered into two clades that well affiliated in the genus of Cyphellophora. Morphological characteristics were also supported the estabolishment of the new species. Herewith Cyphellophora botryose sp. nov. and Cyphellophora guizhouensis sp. nov. were described and their differences from closely related species were discussed.

Asexual members of Reticulascaceae (Glomerellales, Hypocreomycetidae) are generally hyphomycetes and usually found as saprobes occurring on various hosts in lentic habitats. A brief survey of the freshwater fungi in Yunnan Province, China, was carried out and four species of Reticulascaceae were isolated. Morphological examination and sequence analysis of large subunit of the nuclear ribosomal RNA (LSU), RNA polymerase II gene encoding the second largest protein subunit (RPB2) and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions provide evidence for two taxonomic novelties of Kylindria (K. aquatica and K. chinensis). Two other collections comprised two previously described species of Cylindrotrichum (C. clavatum and C. gorii). Descriptions and illustrations of the above taxa are provided and new species are discussed with comparable taxa.

Abstract A new species of Moniliformis Travassos, 1915 (Acanthocephala: Moniliformidae) is described from the hairy-tailed bolo mouse, Necromys lasiurus Lund, 1840 (Cricetidae: Sigmondontinae), captured in the Brazilian Cerrado, in Uberlândia, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The specimens were studied by light and scanning electron microscopy. Molecular phylogenies were inferred from partial nuclear large subunit ribosomal RNA gene sequences and partial mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene. The new species is distinguished from other moniliformid species by the number of rows and number of hooks per row, size of the proboscis, size of the eggs, host species and geographical distribution. Molecular phylogenies and genetic distances analyses demonstrated that Moniliformis necromysi sp. n. forms a well-supported monophyletic group with sequences of other species of Moniliformis and is distinguished from them, which agrees with the morphological characteristics, allocating the new species to this genus and to the family Moniliformidae Van Cleave, 1924. This is the first moniliformid acanthocephalan described from a wild rodent in Brazil.

A new species of Fistulina, F. tasmanica sp. nov., is described and illustrated from Tasmania in Australia. Fistulina tasmanica is distinguished by its pileate and fleshy basidiomata with rose pore surface, fibrous context, separated tubes with small pores (6–7 per mm), a monomitic hyphal system with only clamped generative hyphae, subellipsoid to ellipsoid basidiospores (5.4–6 × 3.4–4 μm) which are negative in Melzer’s reagent and cotton blue. Phylogenetic analyses inferred from the internal transcribed spacer regions (ITS) and the large subunit of nuclear ribosomal RNA gene (nLSU) sequences also confirmed that F. tasmanica is a new member within Fistulina.

Limacella bangladeshana, a new species of well-known fungal family Amanitaceae from Bangladesh is described and illustrated based on morphology and molecular evidence. The species is mainly recognized by its medium-sized basidiomata, cream-white to off-white or buff-white pileus, the slightly uplifted pileal margin, globose basidiospores measuring 3.5–4 × 3.5–4 µm, an ixo-trichodermal pileipellis, and the common presence of clamp connections. Molecular phylogenetic analysis using sequence of the nuclear ribosomal large subunit (nrLSU) also supports the recognition of the new species in Limacella. This species represents the first generic record of Limacella for Bangladesh. Detailed description, color photos and illustration, and comparison with allied taxa are presented.
