Two new taxa of Festuca (Poaceae) from the southeastern Iberian Peninsula

A new species, Festuca greuteri, from the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula (Spain) is described. The new taxon is recognised with two patterns of variation with the rank of subspecies: subsp. greuteri, widely distributed throughout the Baetic Mountains (Almería, Granada, Jaén and Málaga provinces, southern Spain), and subsp. camarolensis, located in the westernmost area of distribution, in the Sierra de Camarolos and Sierra del Jobo (Málaga province, southern Spain). This species belongs to Festuca sect. Festuca, and it had been overlooked or misidentified as F. segimonensis and F. longiauriculata, two species that are partially sympatric with it. Herbarium specimens and living plants were analysed, and noteworthy morphological and anatomical differences support their separation. A complete description is presented for the new species, and iconography and identification keys are provided together with information on leaf anatomy, ecology, phenology, and distribution. The new species is compared with the related species occurring in the southeastern Iberian Peninsula, and differential characters are discussed.

Kaempferia noctiflora, another precocious flowering species of Kaempferia subgen. Protanthium (Zingiberaceae) from Northern Thailand is described and illustrated. Pure white flowers with nocturnal anthesis and a tinged purplish red patch along the midvein of the upper surface of the leaves are the unique characters of this new taxon. The morphological characters of K. noctiflora are compared to closely related species and a key to Thai precocious flowering Kaempferia species is also provided.

Centaurea stuessyi is described as new to science from the eastern Iberian Peninsula, Spain. The range of this new species coincides with the zone of overlap of the ranges of two related species, C. antennata (subsp. antennata) and C. linifolia. The chromosome number found in the new species (2n = 44) reinforces its differences from C. linifolia (2n = 22) and C. antennata (2n = 22). The new species is compared with related species, and a description is given of its ecological preferences.

Vriesea mimosoensis is described and illustrated as a new taxon from the Atlantic Forest in Espírito Santo, Southeastern Brazil. Morphological comparisons of this taxon with related species are presented. Here we discuss taxonomy comments, etymology, geographical distribution and the conservation status of this new species.

Abstract:The new species, Mycocalicium llimonae, is described based on specimens collected from cones of Pinus halepensis in the west of the Iberian Peninsula. The new taxon is compared with the other species of the genus Mycocalicium in the Iberian Peninsula, particularly Mycocalicium subtile, and also with other genera in the Mycocaliciaceae.

A new species of rupicolous Tillandsia from the Mantiqueira mountain range in Southern Minas Gerais State is described based on morphology and leaf anatomy. This new taxon is close to T. nuptialis. The known distribution and conservation status of this new species are discussed.

In the Flora of Turkey, the taxonomic concept of Muscari massayanum sensu Davis & Stuart was given based on five herbarium specimens and a photograph. In the original study, type location of the species was not specified, but its photograph and brief morphological features were included. In current study, herbarium samples given by Davis & Stuart under the description of the species in the Flora of Turkey were examined, and as a result of field studies conducted at the locations where these samples were collected, it was determined that the aforementioned description included M. massayanum, as well as the later published M. erdalii, and a new taxon yet to be named. As a result of comparative and detailed morphological studies to solve this confusion, a new species, Muscari erzincanicum (Asparagaceae) from Turkey, is described and illustrated. The new species is morphologically similar to M. massayanum and M. erdalii, but differs from both by the flower, fruit and seed characteristics.

A new species of freshwater anomuran crab, Aegla buenoi n. sp., is described. The new taxon was collected from two streams within the Cinzas River basin, Paraná state, Brazil. We used morphological and molecular data (COI mtDNA) to distinguish the new species from its congeners. Aegla buenoi n. sp. is differentiated by morphological diagnostic features of the cephalothorax, chelipeds, second abdominal epimeron, and uropods. Molecular results confirm the separation of A. buenoi n. sp. from closely related species (A. castro Schmitt, 1942, A. lata Bond-Buckup & Buckup, 1994, and A. jacutinga Marçal & Teixeira, 2020). Hence, our study increases the known diversity of aeglids and reports the first species of Aegla from the Cinzas River basin.

Allium pseudotelmatum, a new species of A. sect. Codonoprasum, is described from the southern Dalmatia (Croatia). It is a late-summer flowering species with pentaploid (2n = 40) chromosome complement, occurring in synanthropic habitats (Citrus orchards with nutrient rich and fresh moist soil). Karyology, leaf anatomy, morphology, ecology, molecular (ITS) and taxonomic relationships with related species are examined for the species. It shows morphological relationships with the northern Dalmatian species A. telmatum from which it well differentiates for many morphological characters including the presence of aerial bulbils within the inflorescence, phenology, chromosome number and ecology. Confusion of A. pseudotelmatum with some specimens of A. oleraceum due to the presence of bulbils within the inflorescence is discussed.

A new species of the genus Typhlocharis Dieck (Coleoptera: Carabidae, Anillini), T. martini, described from the upper Segura River (province of Albacete, southeast Spain), is included in the diecki group characterised by a series of 4 +3 setae in the lateral umbilical series and a reduced number of preapical and apical dentiform projections of the elytron. A key to the eight species of the diecki species group is included. The relationships of the new taxon and the hypotheses about the evolutionary history of Typhlocharis and the diecki species group are discussed.

A new species of Calatola (Icacinaceae), C. microcarpa, from the departments of Loreto and Madre de Dios, Peru, and the state of Acre, Brazil, is described and illustrated. The new taxon is well documented with staminate and pistillate flowers, and fruits. Its small leaves and fruit are similar to those found in Calatola laevigata and C. uxpanapensis. It is also compared with Calatola costaricensis, with which it sometimes grows sympatrically in Brazil and Peru. The conservation status of the new taxa is assessed against IUCN criteria.
