The authors describe and illustrate Werauhia hylaeana, a new species of Tillandsioideae (Bromeliaceae) from the Amazonian “Hylaea” of Brazil. It is related to W. gladioliflora, but differs in its stature, leaf blade, and inflorescence size, in the shape of floral bracts, sepals, and petals. An identification key for the species of Werauhia reported to Brazil is presented, in addition to habitat and distribution data for the new species.

Ogcodes Latreille is the largest genus of Acroceridae. They exhibit a cosmopolitan distribution and parasitize several spider families. Eleven Neotropical species are currently recognized in the genus, with five of them occurring in Chile, though distribution data is limited in this group of rarely collected flies. In this work, we describe a new species, Ogcodes kunkunche sp. nov. Barahona-Segovia from the evergreen forest of Chiloé Island, provide an identification key to the Chilean species of Ogcodes, and include novel distributional data for other species of spider flies (Acrocerinae and Ogcodinae). Based in our results, we suggest that O. kunkunche sp. nov. must be incorporated in the porteri group, due to wing vein reduction. Morphological aspects within Ogcodes, and their evolutionary implications are discussed.

Abstract A review of the current knowledge on the diversity of inquiline oak gall wasps (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae: Cynipinae) from Colombia is conducted for the first time. A new species, Synergus dawnus Lobato-Vila and Pujade-Villar, is formally described and illustrated, and an undescribed specimen from the same genus is diagnosed and discussed. New biological, morphological, and distribution data of the only two previously known species from this country (Synergus colombianus Nieves-Aldrey, 2005 and Synergus pedroi Pujade-Villar, Lobato-Vila, and Fernández-Garzón, 2017), as well as an identification key to the Colombian species of Synergus Hartig, 1840, are provided. The morphological variability of the Colombian species of Synergus, especially of S. pedroi, is discussed.

Salvia luteistriata, a new species from northeastern Sichuan, China, is described and illustrated here. The new species morphologically resembles S. maximowicziana, but it can be easily distinguished from the latter by having bigger maroon corolla with showy creamy-yellow vertical stripes in the internal ventral surface of corolla tube. Other diagnostic characters between them include that the new species has bigger leaf blade, longer bract and pedicel, bigger oblong upper corolla lip, and bigger mericarp. An identification key for the species in Salvia ser. Maximowiczianae, including S. luteistriata, is provided.

A new species of the state of Chiapas, Ilex montebellensis, is herein described and illustrated. The specimens were previously determined as I. mitis, an endemic species of Africa. This new species is morphologically akin to I. tectonica but differs for presenting larger leaves, 9.0‒22.0 × 4.0‒9 cm, petioles 1.5‒4.0 cm, masculine inflorescences in fasciculated dichasia, fruit with hard mesocarp and dorsally smooth pirenes. The checklist of species for Mexico and Mesoamerica is analysed. An identification key with Mesoamerican species that share the entire character of the leaf blade with the new species, is provided.

A new species of the Neotropical grasshopper genus Aptoceras Bruner, 1908 is described from individuals collected in the Iguaçu National Park, Paraná State, Brazil. Aptoceras iguassuensis n. sp. inhabits in shrubs in the Atlantic Forest. The species belongs to the genus group Nicarchae Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1893. Descriptions, photographs, and illustrations of the male and female, as well as photographs of the male phallic sclerites are presented. An identification key for the five species of Aptoceras from Brazil and a distribution map are also given.

Piper picobonitoënse (clade Schilleria), a new endemic species of Piperaceae from Cordillera Nombre de Dios, Honduras, is described and illustrated. Distinguishing characteristics of this species include distichous leaves; lamina lanceolate or narrowly elliptic, slightly falcate, the apex extremely narrow and long-acuminate, base acute to obtuse and equilateral, drying thin-chartaceous; spikes erect, green, free of leaf-base; and triangular floral bracts, W-shaped on upper margin, glabrous. A discussion and an identification key to morphologically related species in Honduras are included. Piper picobonitoënse (clade Schilleria), es descrita e ilustrada como una nueva especie endémica de las Piperáceas de la Cordillera Nombre de Dios, Honduras. Características distintivas de esta especie incluyen hojas dísticas; lámina lanceolada o elíptica angosta, levemente falcada, el ápice extremadamente agudo y largo-acuminado, la base aguda a obtusa e inequilátera, delgado-cartácea al secarse; las espiguillas erectas, verdes, libres de la base de la hoja; brácteas florales triangulares, en forma de W en parte superior de la margen, glabras. Se incluye una discusión y una clave de identificación para las especies morfológicamente relacionadas en Honduras.

A new species of Calea sect. Calea, endemic to the rocky grasslands of the municipality of Diamantina, Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil, is described. Calea diamantinensis is morphologically similar to Calea lantanoides which differs by its leaf blade elliptic (vs. ovate to widely ovate), margin entire and straight (vs. crenate and revolute), surface solely glandular-punctuated (vs. villous), receptacle paleae obtrullate (vs. narrowly elliptic), capitulescence composed by 3–4 heads (vs. 6–12 heads), cypselae glandular-punctuated ca. 2.7–3 mm long (vs. non-glandular, ca. 1.8–2.5 mm long) and pappus scales ca. 15–17 (vs. 20–25). Illustration, photos, distribution map, habitat considerations and conservation status are provided, as well as an identification key for Calea species from the municipality of Diamantina, Minas Gerais.

The five species of Epeolus tarsalis species group are reviewed. One new species, Epeolus mikhailovi sp. nov. (Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan), is described and illustrated. Epeolus melectiformis Yasumatsu, 1938 is newly recorded from China, and E. tarsalis Morawitz, 1874 is newly recorded from Kazakhstan. The distribution data for other species are supplemented. An identification key for both sexes of this species group is presented.

An undescribed Salvia species was discovered in savannoid vegetation in the municipality of Cosalá, Sinaloa, during botanical explorations addressed to document the endemic species of this Mexican state. This plant is morphologically most similar to Salvia pringlei, sharing with this the peculiar character of connivent calyces during fructification enclosing the mericarps. However, the new species differs by having smaller floral bracts, deep blue corollas instead of magenta, shorter corollas, corolla lips subequal in length, and shorter connectives and styles. Consequently, we describe and diagnosed this taxon as Salvia beltraniorum. A distribution map, photographs and an identification key to Salvia species in Sinaloa are also provided.

A new species of the tribe Hemigasterini, Platymystax xalapa sp. nov., is described from the Mexican State of Veracruz. It is the first species of the genus described from the New World. A preliminary identification key to all known seven species of Platymystax of the world fauna is provided.
