A new species of Paraseiulus Muma from Iran with a key to the known species (Acari: Mesostigmata: Phytoseiidae)

According to Moraes et al. (2004), twelve species of Paraseiulus Muma are known worldwide, of which six were recorded in Iran (Kamali et al., 2001; Faraji et al., 2007). The genus Paraseiulus is characterized by the absence of caudoventral setae JV2; ventrianal shield sole-shaped, with two pairs of preanal setae and without preanal pores; sternal shield with two pairs of setae; setae ST3 either located on soft cuticle or inserted on platelets and setae ST4 inserted on separate platelets; calyx of spermatheca elongate-tubular, bell-shaped or saccular; fixed cheliceral digit with two or three teeth; legs without macrosetae or with a short macroseta on basitarsus IV. A new species of Paraseiulus is described in this paper and a key is provided to help in the identification of the world species of this genus. The classification system follows Chant and McMurtry (1994) for Typhlodrominae. The notations used for dorsal and ventral setations follow Rowell et al. (1978) and Chant and Yoshida-Shaul (1991) respectively. All measurements are in micrometers (μm). The type material of slide-mounted specimens is deposited in the National Museum of Natural History, Leiden, The Netherlands (RMNH).

A new species of eurysquilloid stomatopod,Eurysquilla petronioisp. nov., is described from the tropical western Atlantic.Eurysquilla petronioisp. nov. is the fourteenth species of the genus to be recognized worldwide, the fifth species from the western Atlantic and the second from Brazilian waters. It is most closely related toE. maiaguesensisfrom Puerto Rico, but differs chiefly in having an unarmed versus apically spinous rostral plate and 6 or 7 rather than 8–10 teeth on dactylus of raptorial claw. A key to the species of the genus is provided.

AbstractTelenomus reynoldsi n. sp. (Scelionidae: Telenominae) is described as an egg parasite of Geocoris punctipes Say and G. pallens Stål in California. The parasite has been recovered from cotton fields at Thermal and Indio, and from strawberry fields at El Toro, California. Additional material deposited in the U.S. National Museum of Natural History has been recovered from Geocoris collected at Buttonwillow and Weed, California.

Recently, we (Akkari & Enghoff 2011) described a new species of the genus Rharodesmus Schubart, 1960, discussing the taxonomic state of the family Pyrgodesmidae and providing notes on the four genera occurring in the west Palaearctic area. However, we failed to present details on the holotype of the new species, which we now provide in this note in order to make the species name available. Thus, we describe here the new species Rharodesmus tabarkensis Akkari & Enghoff by reference to the full description given in Akkari & Enghoff (2011) with the following information on the type material: Holotype ♂, TUNISIA, NW, Jendouba Governorate, Tabarka, N36°57.8, E8°44.6, alt. < 40 m, coastal slope below the Genoese fort, under stones, 9.iii.2009, N. Akkari & H. Enghoff leg. (Natural History Museum of Denmark, Zoological Museum, University of Copenhagen, ‒ ZMUC); Paratypes: 12 ♂♂, 8 ♀♀, 14 juveniles, same locality and date as holotype, N. Akkari & H. Enghoff leg. (ZMUC).

The genus Microstenus Szépligeti, 1916 (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae: Cryptinae) is newly recorded from China based on a new species, Microstenus rufithorax Sheng, Li & Sun, sp. nov., collected from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Oriental part of China. Illustrations of the new species are provided. A key to the world species of this genus is also provided.

The aphelinid genus Diaspiniphagus Silvestri is considered a valid taxon, distinct from Coccophagoides Girault. Both genera are briefly diagnosed and the world species are listed. Diaspiniphagus is newly recorded from India and a new species, D. decorus sp. nov., is described. The following species are transferred to Diaspiniphagus as new combinations: D. inlacertus (Girault) from CoccophagusWestwood and D. fasciativentris (Girault), D. forbesi (Dozier), D. fuscipennis (Girault), and D. pulchellus (Dozier) from Prospaltella Ashmead.

A new species of Cnemaspis Strauch is described from Knuckles Range of Sri Lanka. This new species had been previously confused with Cnemaspis podihuna Deraniyagala. Cnemaspis kandambyi sp. nov. closely resembles C. podihuna and C. molligodai Wickramasinghe & Munindradasa. Cnemaspis kandambyi sp. nov. differs from C. podihuna by having 7–8 (versus 3–6) unpored scales in each side of the precloacal-femoral pores row, lacking (versus having) an internasal scale, body (axilla to groin) relatively long 47.7–48.3 (versus 38.1–38.7)% of SVL and dorsum dark brown (versus bright yellow). Cnemaspis kandambyi sp. nov. also distinguished from C. molligodai by having 4 (versus 5) precloacal pores, 5–6 (versus 7–9) femoral pores on each side, precloacal pores not in an inverted V-shaped arrangement (versus in inverted V-shaped arrangement), lacking (versus having) a distinct black marking on nape and a black lateral stripe begins behind eye extends laterally beyond the origin of forearm (versus not extending beyond the origin of forearm). Additionally, Cnemaspis kandambyi sp. nov. and C. molligodai show discrete distribution: former restricted to Knuckles Range and the latter confined to Lowland wet zone of Sri Lanka. We confirm that, no type material of Cnemaspis podihuna survive in the current collection of the National Museum of Sri Lanka.

The present work provides descriptions of a new species of mite, Centrouropoda bahariyaensis n. sp. (Uropodidae), based on the adult female and male collected from the red palm weevil, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Oliver) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) and its habitat at El-Bawiti, Bahariya Oasis, Egypt. Complete descriptions of the immature stages are included. Keys to the known species of genus Centrouropoda Berlese based on adult females, adult males and deutonymphs are provided.

A new mite species, Trachygamasus gerdi sp. nov. from the environs of Kraków (southern Poland) is described. A modified diagnosis of Trachygamasus, as well as a key to adults of 10 world species—of 11 known species of the genus—are presented.
