A new species and a new record of the genus Homidia Börner, 1906 from East China (Collembola: Entomobryidae)

A new species, Homidia apigmenta n. sp. from East China is described. It is easily separated from the other Homidia species by absence of pigment on the dorsal tergites, presence of leaf-like modified setae on labium and ventral part of head, particular chaetotaxy of macrochaetae on posterior side of Abd. IV, and 5–8 (mostly 5) smooth setae on posterior face and 6–7 smooth setae on lateral flap of ventral tube. A table on characters of five closely related Homidia species is provided. A new record for China, the subspecies H. sauteri formosana Uchida, is redescribed and raised to the species level. A table showing the differences between H. sauteri Börner, and H. formosana Uchida, n. comb. is also provided.

Two species of Xanthagaricus discovered in Hubei Province of China are described based on the macro- and micromorphological features. Their identity is further supported by molecular analysis of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) of the ribosomal RNA gene. The phylogeny obtained here showed that one of the Chinese species is nested in an exclusive clade which in combination with its striking morphological features, infers that it represents a new species, named X. ianthinus, while the other species is placed as a member in the X. epipastus clade. Descriptions are accompanied with illustrations of macro- and micromorphological characters and a discussion of related taxa is presented.

A new species of the genus Pseudechiniscus, Pseudechiniscus papillosus sp. nov., is described and figured in this paper. This new species differs from the other species of the genus Pseudechiniscus by plate sculpture that consists of many papillae-like projections. Four new records of Echiniscus species and one new record of a Pseudechiniscus species are also reported in this article: Echiniscus cheonyoungi Moon & Kim, E. melanophthalmus Bartoš, E. nepalensis Dastych, E. trisetosus Cuénot and Pseudechiniscus asper Abe Utsugi & Takeda.

Maldivea Gerlach, 1962 is a possible endemic genus of the Maldivian archipelago for which only M. xarifae Gerlach, 1962 has been described so far. A new species of this genus, M. complexa n.sp., was recently found in Felidhoo atoll. It reveals a more complex structure of gubernaculum than in type species which appears to be divided into two pieces: one is a sort of long wing in the ventral part of the spicule and the other one, more complex, is characterized by several curved stripes which envelop the dorsal side of the spicule distal part. According to the present considerations, diagnoses of Paroxystomininae and Maldivea are emended.

A new species, Hypogastrura sheyangensis, from East China is described. It belongs to H. manubrialis group of species within the genus and is easily separated from the other members of the group by a combination of characters, foot structure, furca, antennal sensilla, thoracic and abdominal chaetotaxy. A comparison is made between the new species, other species of Hypogastrura known from China and three other similar species in the genus.

Two species of the opisid genus Opisa have been collected from the East Sea of South Korea, one of them described as Opisa parvimanasp. nov.. The new species, O. parvimanasp. nov. is similar to O. odontochela; however, it can be clearly distinguished from this species because it has 12 blunt robust setae in the palm of gnathopod 1. The other collected species, Opisa takafuminakanoi Narahara-Nakano, Kakui & Tomikawa, 2016 is previously known from Japanese waters (southeast of Akkeshi Bay, Hokkaido). Both species are illustrated and compared to related species. A key to Opisa species is also provided.

This study was carried out between 2009 and 2011 in the Inner West Anatolia region (Afyonkarahisar, Kütahya and Uşak). It was determined that the collected species belonged to eight subfamilies, 21 genera and 54 species. Neurigona suturalis is a new record for Turkey and the other 53 species are new records for the Inner West Anatolia.

A new species of Hydromedusa belonging to the genus Octocanna Haeckel 1879, here revived, is described from the coastal waters off Santos. The new species belongs to the family Phialuciidae, it is named Octocanna haeckeli sp. n. and differs from the other two species of the genus in being smaller, in having a high dome shaped umbrella, four tentacles, eight bulbs and eight marginal vesicles at sexual maturity. The genus Octocanna is here revived for Phialuciidae with eight radial canals, eight gonads, four or more tentacles and never more than four lips. The genus Octophialucium Kramp 1955 is considered valid for Phialuciidae with eight radial canals, eight gonads and eight lips. In the same series of samples, some specimens of Octophialucium bigelowi Kramp 1955 were taken which are very similar to Octocanna haeckeli but have eight lips, eight tentacles, rudimentary bulbs and a larger number of marginal vesicles at sexual maturity, which is reached at approximately the same umbrella size. The two similar species were taken in the same water mass at approximately the same time of the same year.

The capitellid genus Leiocapitella is characterized by the possession of anterior 12–16 chaetigers exclusively with capillaries and the following 1–2 transitional chaetigers with notopodial capillaries and neuropodial hooded hooks. A new species was obtained from the continental shelf of the East China Sea, and is identified herein as Leiocapitella fujianensis. The new species differs from the other four described species by the number and location of transitional chaetigers, the dentition of abdominal hooks, and the methyl green stain on thorax. A key to all Leiocapitella species is provided in this paper.

In a review of the Epipsocidae from two Natural Parks in the Colombian amazon, two species of Neurostigma were found, one of which corresponds to N. xanthopterum, a new record for the country; the other being a new species which is here described and illustrated. A key for identification of the described species (males) is also presented.
