The Colombian species of parasitoid wasp Urosigalphus are revised for the first time, based on specimens deposited inmuseums. Morphological boundaries between South American species of Euphrasia L. are controversial, rendering determination of specimens an arduous task. In this context, a comprehensive taxonomic revision of Euphrasia in South America is here provided for the first time. This study, based upon a classical morphological study of ca. 400 herbarium specimens, supports the recognition of eight species and one subspecies distributed in the Andean regions of Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile. From among native species, six belong to section Trifidae Benth. and one to the monotypic section Paradoxae Pugsley, endemic to Juan Fernández Islands; one adventive species, E. officinalis L., belongs to the section Euphrasia. The previously misunderstood presence of E. cockayniana Petrie is here untangled, and, consequently, the species is excluded from South America. A key to all Euphrasia taxa in South America, plus morphological descriptions, nomenclature items, geographical distribution and maps, habitat notes, illustrations, photographs, and discussion notes are included for the nine taxa. Eleven names are here synonymized, and lectotypes are designated for E. andicola Benth., E. debilis Wettst., E. flavicans Phil., E. intricata Phil., and E. philippii Wettst. Euphrasia andicola is reported for the first time for Argentina. This collaborative effort will represent a baseline for further investigations on Euphrasia in South America.

In this contribution we present updates on the taxonomy and morphology of the South American species of Amitermes. Two new species are described: Amitermes bandeirai, sp. n., from Brazil, and Amitermes lilloi, sp. n., from Argentina. Amitermes nordestinus is a junior synonym of Amitermes aporema. The imago of A. aporema is described for the first time. Detailed comparative gut anatomy of the eight species is presented for the first time. The geographic distribution of Amitermes in South America is expanded and the distribution patterns of some species are discussed.

The South American species of Pseudocanthon Bates, 1887 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae: Deltochilini) are reviewed. In this work, 10 valid species and two subspecies are recognized for the genus. Among these species, five are recorded in South America, including three new species: P. perplexus (LeConte, 1847), P. xanthurus (Blanchard, 1847), P. vazdemelloi new species, P. pantanensis new species, and P. chaquensis new species. A lectotype is designated for P. xanthurus (Blanchard, 1847). In this revision, each species is analyzed as follows: a detailed literature review, an identification key for the South American species, a diagnosis, descriptions, illustrations of key morphological characters, list of examined material, and geographic distribution.

Three species of the genus Allocosa Banks, 1900 from southern South America are redescribed: Allocosa alticeps (Mello-Leitão, 1944), A. brasiliensis (Petrunkevitch, 1910) and A. senex (Mello-Leitão, 1945). The female of A. senex is described for the first time and the species is revalidated. A new species, A. marindia sp. nov. from southern Uruguay and southern Brazil is described. The new species is distinguished by the flattened terminal apophysis of the male bulb and the conspicuous pointed projections on the posterior margin of the female epigynum. The species inhabits in sandy estuarine and oceanic coasts with psammophile vegetation.

The genus Cloeodes is poorly reported for Uruguay, until now only C. aymara was described from this region. Here we describe three new species of Cloeodes from this country: C. dialutoi, C. guenoa and C. vaimaca, all of them based on nymphs. The species C. opacus is reported for the first time in Uruguay. A discussion of each taxon is included as well as drawings of the new species. A revised and updated key for male imagos and nymphs of South American species of Cloeodes is presented.

AbstractA soldier-based key to the South American species of Heterotermes is presented. Six species are recognized: H. assu sp. n., H. convexinotatus, H. crinitus, H. longiceps, H. sulcatus and H. tenuis. H. assu sp. n., is described from the Brazilian Atlantic forest, including the imago, soldier and worker castes. H. assu is also recorded from urban areas as a pest. The imago of H. longiceps is described and illustrated for the first time. The soldiers of all species are illustrated and their known distribution mapped, with several new records.

AbstractUroleucon is one of the largest genera of Macrosiphini, with 216 known species; it is one of the few genera of Aphidinae to have a diversification in South America, with 15 native species and 1 subspecies. Moreover, 7 introduced species have been recorded in South America. Five new species from Argentina are described herein: Uroleucon malarguense Ortego and Nieto Nafría, sp. nov., U. mendocinum Mier Durante and Ortego, sp. nov., U. patagonicum Nieto Nafría and Seco Fernández, sp. nov., U. payuniense Ortego and Nieto Nafría, sp. nov., and U. riojanum Nieto Nafría and Mier Durante, sp. nov. One Palearctic species, U. jaceae (Linnaeus), has been recorded for the first time in South America, and thus 28 species and 1 subspecies are now known from South America. Uroleucon essigi Carvalho and U. chilense (Essig) are recorded for the first time from Argentina, and 20 of these 29 taxa are known for this country. New morphological and bionomic data from some previously known species are given. Alate viviparous females of U. gochnatiae Delfino and oviparae and males of U. bereticum (Blanchard) and U. macolai (Blanchard) are described. A taxonomic discussion about native South American species of Uroleucon is given, and we include them at present in the subgenus Lambersius. A key is provided for the identification of apterous and alate viviparous females.

A new species of ichneumon-flies, Bicryptella yanegai sp. n. (Cryptinae), is described from Honduras. The genus Bicryptella is recorded from North America for the first time. A key for separation of the new species from South American species of the genus is given.

This paper provides a taxonomic revision and reviews natural history for 35 South American species of the seed-harvesting ant genus Pogonomyrmex. Species treated herein mostly comprise the P. rastratus-group; four species are revived from synonomy, three taxa are elevated from subspecies to species, five taxa are synonymized, and 20 new species are described. The following taxa are revived from synonomy: P. intermedia Menozzi, P. semistriata Emery, P. spinolae Emery, and P. weiseri Santschi. The following taxa are raised from subspecies to species: P. leonis Kusnezov, P. pulchellus Santschi, and P. sanmartini Kusnezov. The following new synonymies are proposed, with the senior synonym listed first, and the junior synonym(s) in parentheses: P. carbonarius Mayr (= P. kusnezovi Cuezzo & Claver, = P. weiseri var. neuquensis Santschi, = P. variabilis Santschi); P. vermiculatus Emery (= P. vermiculatus var. chubutensis Forel, = P. vermiculatus var. jorgenseni Forel). The following new species are described: P. apterogenos, P. araucania, P. atacama, P. bolivianus, P. colca, P. cusquena, P. excelsior, P. forelii, P. granulatus, P. lagunabravensis, P. loaensis, P. mapuche, P. maulensis, P. pichachen, P. propinqua, P. santschii, P. strioligaster, P. tafi, P. varicolor, and P. wilsoni. One species treated herein has brachypterous queens (P. atacama), one species has dimorphic queens (winged and brachypterous in P. longibarbis), and two species have ergatoid (permanently wingless) queens and ergatoid males (P. apterogenos, P. laguanbravensis); the latter two are the only known ant species in which both sexual castes are only ergatoid. I also provide keys for workers and queens (in English and Spanish), diagnoses for males, photographs of known castes, distribution maps, and a summary of known biology.

 The genus Monastria Saussure, 1864 includes medium to large sized (40–55 mm) dark brown or black cockroaches found in the understory of the Neotropical Atlantic Forest from the Northeast of Brazil to Paraguay and Argentina. The genus shows evident sexual dimorphism: males are elongated with fully developed wings extending beyond the apex of cerci and females are oval and brachypterous. This study is a revision of the genus with redescription of the three already known species, Monastria biguttata (Thunberg, 1826), Monastria similis (Serville, 1838) and Monastria angulata Saussure, 1864, and description of five new ones, Monastria itubera sp. n. and Monastria itabuna sp. n. from state of Bahia, Monastria cabocla sp. n. from state of Sergipe, Monastria kaingangue sp. n. from state of São Paulo and Monastria sagittata sp. n. from state of Minas Gerais. The morphology of the genus and all species is described in details, including male genitalia. Based on this revision, we proposed a new combination for Hiereoblatta papillosa (Thunberg, 1826) comb. n., excluding it from the genus Monastria. For the first time, the juvenile stages of Monastria are characterized and compared to other genera of Blaberinae of the Atlantic forest. Three determination keys are provided. The two first are aimed at identifying the adults and juvenile stages of the five genera of the Blaberinae radiation endemic to the Atlantic forest, respectively. The third concerns the identification of the species of the genus Monastria. A map indicating the localities where species were sampled is also provided.
