A new species of Microlestes Schmidt-Gobel, 1846 is described from the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula, Portugal. This new species was found in the Rede Natura 2000 Serra de Monchique area (Algarve). Microlestes aljezurensis n. sp. presents three anatomical characteristics that make it a very singular species: 1) unlike other Microlestes species, it shows a pronounced sexual dimorphism in the legs in the form of dentiform processes, more or less conspicuous, in the male mesofemur, mesotibia and metatibia; 2) the last abdominal sternite shows a slight marginal notch in the male; and 3) the median lobe of the aedeagus shows a tooth on the ventral side. Comments on the ecology and distribution are presented for this species. An illustrated key to the identification of the Iberian-Balearic species, with illustrations of the genitalia and other anatomical characteristics, is also included.

A new species of the genus Typhlocharis Dieck, 1869 (Coleoptera: Carabidae: Anillini) is described (T. deferreri nov. sp.) from the province of Cadiz in the south of the Iberian Peninsula. Its affinities with other species are discussed, mainly those with males having a median tubercle in sternum II: T. bivari Serrano and Aguiar, 2006, T. passosi Serrano and Aguiar, 2005, T. navarica Zaballos and Wrase, 1998 (outereloi group), T. monastica Zaballos and Wrase, 1998 and T. peregrina Zaballos and Wrase, 1998 (monastica group). The value of sexual dimorphism as a phylogenetic and taxonomic tool is revised; seemingly there is no relationship between this kind of sexual dimorphism and the traits that differentiate the established species groups (umbilicate series, type of gonocoxite, dimorphism in tibiae I and II, etc.). The presence and significance of stridulatory organ (pars stridens) is also commented upon, updating and increasing the scarce data available about this structure, poorly considered in the literature, with notes about distribution and relationships of the species which have it.

Kottelatlimia hipporhynchos, new species, is described from the Sampit, Kahayan and Kapuas drainages, southern Borneo. It is distinguished from its congeners by the extreme development of the papillae on all mouth parts (lips, barbels, lobes), including very long papillae along the anterior edge of the main digitation of the median lobe of the lower lip; a longer snout; more vertebrae; and the upper 3–4 principal caudal-fin rays adjacent along proximal 1/4–1/3. Sexual dimorphism of the pectoral fin of Acantopsis and Neoeucirrhichthys is briefly discussed. The identity and nomenclatural status of Cobitis barbatuloides and Cobitichthys are discussed; they apparently belong to the genus Lepidocephalichthys, which is given precedence under article 23.9.2 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature.

A new species of clingfish, Dellichthystrnskii sp. n. is described on the basis of 27 specimens, 11.9–46.0 mm SL, collected from intertidal and shallow coastal waters of New Zealand. It is distinguished from its only congener, D.morelandi Briggs, 1955 by characters of the cephalic sensory system and oral jaws, snout shape, and colouration in life. A rediagnosis is provided for D.morelandi, which is shown to exhibit sexual dimorphism in snout shape.

A new species of Synelmis (Annelida: Polychaeta: Pilargidae), Synelmis urgorrii sp. nov., is described from the continental slope off north-western Spain. The new species is characterized by having antennae, peristomial cirri and parapodial cirri cirriform, lateral antennae located in the proximal third of the prostomium, notospines starting on chaetigers 7–11, well-developed neuropodial lobe and asymmetrical furcate chaetae, those of anterior chaetigers distinctly spinulated.

A phylogenetic tree of the Iberian Aphaenogaster species - except for A. splendida (Roger) - and a key to the worker caste of all Iberian Aphaenogaster species are proposed. The position of A. striativentris Forel and A. cardenai Espadaler is discussed, stating the possibility that this second species may belong to a new, undescribed genus. Aphaenogaster ulibeli n. sp. is described from the Iberian Peninsula. Its closest relatives are A. gibbosa (Latreille) and A. striativentris. Its habitat seems to be restricted to caducifolia forests in the Western Central Massif.

An unusual new omaliine species, Anthobium alekseevisp. nov., is described and illustrated from Eocene Baltic amber, tentatively placed in the megadiverse genus Anthobium Leach, 1819. A new monotypic species-group is established. The new species can easily be distinguished from other species of the genus by the larger body, shape of the subrectangular pronotum, and the presence of a median carina on the prosternum and large, subtriangular tooth on the inner side of each mesotibia, likely exhibiting a peculiar sexual dimorphism in the male. Based on the study of the specimen with support of microtomographic images, a brief comparative analysis of a new species with described extant species of Anthobium is provided.

Laevifaciesquadrialatagen. et sp. nov. is described from Hainan Province, China based on morphological data. COI data (DNA barcodes) is utilized to confirm the sexual dimorphism occurring in Laevifaciesquadrialatagen. et sp. nov.Melanozosterianitida Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1865, is reported from Guangxi Province, China. A key to the Chinese Polyzosteriinae is provided.
