Systematics of Thiodinini (Araneae: Salticidae: Salticinae), with description of a new genus and twelve new species

The jumping spider tribe Thiodinini is revised at generic level: diagnoses are proposed for all valid genera, based on the type species of each genus, and in some cases, on new species herein described. The tribe contains seven genera: Thiodina Simon, 1900; Cyllodania Simon, 1902; Hyetussa Simon, 1902; Atomosphyrus Simon, 1902; Arachnomura Mello-Leitão, 1917, Titanattus Peckham & Peckham, 1885 and the new genus Tartamura gen. nov. The following genera are synonymized: Micalula Strand, 1932 and Bredana Gertsch, 1936 with Hyetussa Simon, 1902; Agelista Simon, 1900 with Titanattus Peckham & Peckham, 1885. With this, the following new combinations are established: Hyetussa longithorax (Petrunkevitch, 1925) comb. nov. (this species with a neotype designation), from Micalula, and Hyetussa complicata (Gertsch, 1936) comb. nov. and Hyetussa alternata (Gertsch, 1936) comb. nov., both from Bredana. A transfer is proposed: Thiodina minuta comb. nov. (from Cyllodania). Twelve new species are described: Arachnomura querandi sp. nov.; Cyllodania trinidad sp. nov.; Cyllodania zoobotanica sp. nov.; Hyetussa sergipe sp. nov.; Hyetussa tremembe sp. nov.; Tartamura agatelin sp. nov.; Tartamura huao sp. nov.; Tartamura metzneri sp. nov.; Thiodina firme sp. nov.; Thiodina perian sp. nov.; Titanattus acanjuba sp. nov. and Titanattus euryphaessa sp. nov. Morphological traits and aspects of the phylogeny are discussed.

The nine genera of the Afrotropical Ommatiinae are briefly reviewed and include a revised key to genera. A new genus and a species group are diagnosed and described. New genus: Longibeccus (type species, O. fuscovittatus Ricardo, 1900). New combinations: Transferred to Longibeccus from Ommatius, 1821: O. fuscovittatus Ricardo, 1900, and O. imperator Oldroyd, 1939. New status: subgenus Metommatius Hull, 1962, is elevated to generic level. New species group: neotenellus includes Ommatius coperitus n. sp., O. latus n. sp., O. neotenellus Bromley, O. polixus n. sp., and O. ultimus n. sp. from east Africa. The male of O. neotenellus is described for the first time. Only one species of Michotamia (M. coarctata Macquart, 1855), is confirmed from Madagascar. New synonymies: Afroestricus minutus (Bromley 1936)=Ommatius flavipes Loew, 1860; Michotamia cothurnata (Bigot, 1875)=Cophinopoda pulchripes (Bigot,1859). Illustrations of heads, antennae, wings, and terminalia of selected species and keys to the species of Longibeccus and the neotenellus group are provided. Distributions of the Afrotropical genera are briefly discussed.

Studies on the Agalliini leafhoppers collected from the Terrestrial Arthropods of Madagascar inventory project of the Cal-ifornia Academy of Sciences, resulted in the discovery of one new genus Agallidwipa gen. nov. (type-species: A. biramosa sp. nov.) with three new species, A. biramosa sp. nov., A. bispinosa sp. nov. and A. webbi sp. nov. and three new species of the genus Igerna Kirkaldy, I. delta sp. nov., I. flavocosta sp. nov. and I. malagasica sp. nov. Two new combinations proposed are Agallidwipa pauliana (Evans) comb. nov. (from genus Agalliana Oman) and Igerna neosa (Webb) comb. nov. (from genus Stonasla White), a species previously recorded from Aldabra Islands. A previous record of Igerna bi-maculicollis (Stål) from Madagascar is shown most likely to be a case of misidentification. All the taxa are described and illustrated. Keys to species of Agalliini from Madagascar are included along with notes on the distinction between Agal-liana and Agallidwipa.

The Chinese Hecalina (Deltocephalinae: Hecalini), which consists of five genera, is reviewed. Coloration and shape of the head and body, venation of forewing, and genitalia structures are the main morpological characters utilized to distinguish taxa. Fangamanus gen. n. is proposed for Parabolocratus tripunctatus Matsumura (type species of the new genus) and two other species. A key to the five genera of the Chinese Hecalina (Fangamanus gen. n., Hecalus Stål, Hecalusina He et al., Linnavuoriella Evans, and Thomsonia Signoret) is given, and seven new species from China are described: Hecalus changjiaotus, H. feithailandus, H. nadanus, H. triundosus, H. yuanmouensis, Thomsonia breviaea, and T. daliensis. In addition, four new combinations are proposed: Thomsonia nitobei (Matsumura), Fangamanus rufofascianus (Li), F. tripunctatus (Matsumura) (n. rec.), and F. morrisoni (Kwon and Lee). Only seven previously described species from China remain in Hecalus Stål: H. bifurcatus Cai & Wang, H. furcatus Morrison, H. henanus Cai & Shen, H. katoi Metcalf, H. prasinus (Matsumura), H. thailandensis Morrison, and H. wallengreni (Stål) plus two species (H. paykulli Stål and H. lefroyi Distant) previously recorded but unconfirmed here from China. Four species are redescribed: Fangamanus rufofascianus, F. tripunctatus, Thomsonia porrecta, and the first description and illustration of the male of T. nitobei (Matsumura) are provided.

A taxonomic revision of the tribe Ceroptresini (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae) is conducted for the first time. Prior to this study, the total number of valid species of Ceroptres, the only genus within Ceroptresini to date, was 23. As a result of this revision, 15 Ceroptres species are retained as valid and one species, Amblynotus ensiger Walsh, 1864, is desynonymized from Ceroptres petiolicola (Osten-Sacken, 1861), being considered here as a valid Ceroptres species: C. ensiger (Walsh, 1864) status verified and comb. nov. An additional five new species are described from Mexico: Ceroptres junquerasi Lobato-Vila & Pujade-Villar sp. nov.; C. lenis Lobato-Vila & Pujade-Villar sp. nov.; C. mexicanus Lobato-Vila & Pujade-Villar sp. nov.; C. nigricrus Lobato-Vila & Pujade-Villar sp. nov.; C. quadratifacies Lobato-Vila & Pujade-Villar sp. nov., increasing the total number of valid Ceroptres species to 21. Ceroptres masudai Abe, 1997 is synonymized with C. kovalevi Belizin, 1973. Ceroptres niger Fullaway, 1911 is transferred to Andricus (Andricus confusus Lobato-Vila & Pujade-Villar comb. nov. and nom. nov.). Five species (Amblynotus inermis Walsh, 1864; Cynips quercusarbos Fitch, 1859; Cynips querficus Fitch, 1859; Cynips quercuspisum Fitch, 1859; and Cynips quercustuber Fitch, 1859) are not considered as valid Ceroptres. The status of Ceroptres quereicola (Shinji, 1938), previously classified as an unplaced species, is commented on. In addition, a Nearctic species from the USA, Ceroptres politus Ashmead, 1896, is here proposed as the type species of a new genus within Ceroptresini: Buffingtonella Lobato-Vila & Pujade-Villar gen. nov. Redescriptions, biological and distribution data, illustrations and keys to genera and species within Ceroptresini are provided. The diagnostic morphological traits of Ceroptresini, Ceroptres and the new genus are discussed.

The new genus Huangilene Volynkin & Černý, gen. n. is erected for the Miltochrista alikangiae (Strand, 1917) species-group with Lyclene kepica Dubatolov & Bucsek, 2013 as the type species. Three new species are described: H. odontotilepida Volynkin & Černý, sp. n. (Thailand, Cambodia, Laos), H. kutzscheri Volynkin & Černý, sp. n. (continental China and Taiwan Isl.) and H. apoklinousa Volynkin & Černý, sp. n. (Vietnam). Four new combinations are established: Huangilene kepica (Dubatolov & Bucsek, 2013), comb. n., H. pseudolutara (N. Singh & Kirti, 2016), comb. n., H. alikangiae alikangiae (Strand, 1917), comb. n. H. alikangiae intermedia (Marumo, 1923), comb. n. The lectotype is designated for Asura obsoleta Form alikangiae Strand, 1917, the species’ type locality is fixed as “Karapin” (Taiwan, Chiayi County, Chaoliping).

We describe a new genus, Manitischeria Diškus & Stonis, gen. nov., and five new species: Manitischeria selindica Stonis & Diškus, sp. nov., M. namibiensis Stonis & Diškus, sp. nov. from Africa, and M. brachiata Diškus & Stonis, sp. nov., M. symbolica Diškus & Stonis, sp. nov., and M. baryshnikovae Diškus & Stonis, sp. nov. from South East Asia. We discuss the diagnostics of Manitischeria gen. nov. composed of these new species and others transferred from Tischeria Zeller. Species are mostly trophically associated with Malvaceae, but also Rhamnaceae and Betulaceae. We list 18 currently known species of Manitischeria gen. nov., including M. ptarmica (Meyrick), the type species, and provide 13 new combinations and the first documentation of genitalia of some, previously little-known species. New species are illustrated with photographs or drawings of the adults, genitalia, and the leaf mines when available. We briefly discuss the use of herbarium specimens to discover lepidopteran leaf mines, host plant, and distribution data.

Bicaubittacus gen. nov., the second genus of the family Bittacidae from the Oriental Region, is erected with Bittacus appendiculatus Esben-Petersen, 1927 as its type species. A key to the 17 extant genera of Bittacidae is compiled to include the new genus. Two new species, Bicaubittacus yangi sp. nov. and Bi. mengyangicus sp. nov. are described and illustrated from China. Three new combinations, Bicaubittacus appendiculatus (Esben-Petersen, 1927) and Bi. longiprocessus (Huang & Hua, 2005) from China, and Bi. burmanus (Tjeder, 1974) from Myanmar (formerly Burma), are transferred from the genus Bittacus Latreille. A key to the five species of Bicaubittacus is provided. The validity of Neobittacus and Thyridates is briefly discussed

Recently, a new species of the genus Ctenocheloides Anker, 2010, viz., Ctenocheloides nomurai Komai, 2013, was reported from the Kii District (= Arita Bay, Kushimoto, Wakayama Prefecture), Japan. However, Komai’s species is not to be included in Anker’s genus Ctenocheloides, because of differences at the generic level with the type species of that genus, Ctenocheloides attenboroughi Anker, 2010, and is thus reclassified herein under a new genus, Kiictenocheloides gen. nov. Both genera, Ctenocheloides Anker, 2010 and Kiictenocheloides gen. nov. are also different from Ctenocheles Kishinouye, 1926, the type genus of the family Ctenochelidae Manning & Felder, 1991, so that the two genera, Ctenocheloides Anker, 2010 and Kiictenocheloides gen. nov. are now included in the family Ctenocheloidae Sakai, 2011.

A new Xyleninae (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae) genus Parvispinia gen. n. (Type-species Ammoconia parvispina Tschetverikov, 1904) and three new species Parvispinia barkama sp. n., P. geminus sp. n. and P. parilis sp. n. from China are described. Atrachea parvispina (Tschetverikov, 1904), A. cortex (Alpheraky, 1887) and A. caelestina Gyulai & Ronkay, 2001 are transferred from the genus Atrachea Warren, 1911 (Xyleninae, Apameini) to Parvispinia (Xyleninae, Xylenini); three new combinations Parvispinia parvispina (Tschetverikov, 1904) comb. n., P. cortex (Alpheraky, 1887), comb. n. and P. caelestina (Gyulai & Ronkay, 2001), comb. n. are introduced. The lectotypes for Parvispinia parvispina and P. cortex are designated. Generic checklists for Parvispinia and Atrachea are presented.

An emendation of the Phacidiaceae is presented. Of 24 genera placed in the family by previous authors, only 2, Lophophacidium and Phacidium (=Phacidiostroma) are retained. Four new species are described, and three new combinations made, in Phacidium. The Apostrasseria or Ceuthospora anamorphs of six of these are also described. Phacidium symplocinum is made the type species of a new genus, Ascluella, tentatively maintained in the Dermateaceae. The new combinations, Coccomyces gaultheriae, Odontotrema sieversiae, Pseudophacidium kumaonense, and Schizoxylon hemisphaericum, are introduced.
