On the Tethyida (Porifera, Demospongiae) from Bahia State, northeast Brazil, with descriptions of two new species, taxonomic appointments and new records

The recently proposed order Tethyida is characterized by the presence of megasclere styles, tylostyles or oxeas arranged in tracts ending as bouquets at or near the surface, and microsclere euasters. Two new species are described from the shallow coastal reefs (0–10 m) of Bahia, Brazil. Timea kamasary sp. nov. is represented by thin sciaphylous specimens with three categories of spicules: tylostyles, spined spheroxyasters and spined/smooth oxyasters in varied sizes. This species differs from Timea unistellata (Topsent, 1892) by having a different category of oxyasters. Tethya bitylastra sp. nov. is characterized by having strongyloxeas I and II, spherasters, oxyasters I and II, strongylasters and two categories of tylasters. This new species differs from Tethya maza Selenka, 1879 by having a second category of tylaster. Furthermore, we present taxonomic appointment for Timea berlincki (Leite, Fonseca, Leal & Hajdu, 2015) and Tethya maza and the first record of Timea stenosclera (Hechtel, 1969) for the Southwest Atlantic.

A survey is given of the distribution of the water mite species of the genus Sperchon Kramer (Acari: Hydrachnidia: Sperchontidae) in Turkey, based on all published data and numerous new records. Sperchon (Hispidosperchon) oezkani and S. (Sperchon) ayyildizi are described as new species; Sperchon fundamentalis Bader & Sepasgozarian, 1980 is synonymized with S. glandulosus Koenike, 1886; the first record from Turkey is given for Sperchon (Hispidosperchon) tarnogradskii Sokolow, 1927.

Six species of Eutardigrada are recorded from Portugal; four of them, Macrobiotus crenulatus Richters, 1904, Hypsibius seychellensis Pilato, Binda & Lisi, 2006, Diphascon (Diphascon) pingue (Marcus, 1936) and D. (Diphascon) patanei Binda & Pilato, 1971 are recorded for the first time in Portugal. Two species, Minibiotus orthofasciatus sp. nov. and Bertolanius (new name of Amphibolus) portucalensis sp. nov. are new to science. Minibiotus orthofasciatus sp. nov. is one of the species of the genus with three macroplacoids, microplacoid and cuticular pores forming transverse bands. The new species differs from all existing species by one or more of the following characters: distribution of the pores, shape of the pores, absence of dots on the legs, level of insertion of the stylet supports on the buccal tube. To the new species is attributed an unembryonated egg similar to those of Minibiotus intermedius (Plate, 1888), M. poricinctus Claxton, 1998, M. floriparus Claxton, 1998, and M. weglarskae Michalczyk, Kaczmarek & Claxton, 2005 but different from them in some details. Bertolanius portucalensis sp. nov. is very similar to the other species of the genus, but it differs from them in having very small cuticular tubercles. From some of them it differs by characters of the buccopharyngeal apparatus and/or of the eggs. This is the first record of the genus and of the Eohypsibiidae family in the Iberian Peninsula.

The European and Mediterranian specimens of the tribe Xantholinini deposited in the Museum of Zoology, Lund, Sweden, were examined. Two new species are described: Phacophallus tuniseus n. sp. from Tunisia (closely related to P. parumpunctatus (Gyllenhal) from Europe), and Xantholinus cypriacus n. sp. from Cyprus. Keys to Mediterranean species of subgenus Calolinus (genus Xantholinus) and Phacophallus are provided. Geonemic data for other 23 species are presented. The following new records are provided: Milichilinus decorus, Leptophius flavocinctus, Hypnogyra angularis, Stenistoderus cephalotes (first record from Bulgaria), Leptophius flavocinctus, Stenistoderus cephalotes, Xantholinus coiffaiti (first record from Corfu), Xantholinus rufipennis (first record from Crete), and X. morandi (first record from Majorca).

This paper describes a new genus, two new species and new records of subterranean gastropods from the Sabinas and Álamos River, Coahuila, and the Nazas River, Durango, in northern Mexico. Phreatomascogosgregoigen. n. et sp. n. from Don Martín Basin, Coahuila, is described based on shells and opercula that show some morphological similarities with shells of Phreatodrobia Hershler & Longley, 1986 (Lithoglyphidae), which is a subterranean genus from neighboring area in Texas, United States. Conchologically, the new genus can be distinguished from Phreatodrobia and all other subterranean genera by a unique combination of characteristic shell morphology and opercula apomorphies. Balconorbissabinasensesp. n. (Cochliopidae) is the second species of this genus, which was previously known only from caves and associated subterranean habitats in Texas. The new record of Coahuilixparrasense, Czaja, Estrada-Rodríguez, Romero-Méndez, Ávila-Rodríguez, Meza-Sánchez & Covich, 2017 (Cochliopidae) from Durango and Coahuila is the first record of extant member of this genus out of its hitherto known habitat in the Cuatro Ciénegas basin, Coahuila. These records are remarkable because C.parrasense had been described recently as a fossil species. Shell morphologies of the new subterranean snails could be interpreted as possible evolutional adaptations to different hydrodynamic and other specific conditions in their habitat.

Two new maldanid polychaetes were collected from the Ponta do Cabo Branco beach, Paraíba, Brazil, and represent the first record of the genus Nicomache for the southwest Atlantic. Nicomache (Nicomache) lanai sp. nov. has 22 setigerous segments, two pre-anal asetigerous segments, a dark beige colour on setigers 4–17, an anteriorly rounded prostomium forming a tall, arched keel, elliptical nuchal grooves that open posteriorly, 4–7 acicular spines on setigers 1–3, and an anal funnel with triangular equal-sized anal cirri, with concave sides. Nicomache (Nicomache) brasiliensis sp. nov. also has 22 setigerous and two pre-anal asetigerous segments, but the entire body is light-pink coloured. The prostomium is rounded anteriorly, but is longer, broadening posteriorly, forming a low, straight subterminal keel. This species has parallel nuchal grooves, with a sharp anterior angle, has only 4–6 acicular spines on setigers 1–3, and an anal funnel with short tapering, equal-sized anal cirri with convex sides.

A sample of ca. 130 specimens from the Collection of Strepsiptera of the National Institute for Amazon Research (INPA) contained species in four families: Corioxenidae, Bohartillidae, Myrmecolacidae, and Halictophagidae. First results of the study of that sample are presented with descriptions of two new species of Halictophagidae: Halictophagus urucui sp. n. and Coriophagus jennyae sp. n. The latter species is the first record of Coriophagus in the Western Hemisphere; the genus distribution had been limited so far to Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the Solomon Islands. These new records contribute to an expanded view of the biodiversity of the Strepsiptera fauna in the Brazilian Amazon Basin.

Based on the material collected during the ANDEEP III, BIOPEARL and USAP Expeditions, two new species of the family Agathotanaidae (Paranathrura arctowskii n. sp. and Paragathotanais ipy n. sp.) are described, together with new records of Paranarthrura fortispina Sieg, 1986. Additionally the first record of a male of Arthrura monacantha (Vanhöffen, 1914) is presented. The possibility of the development of eggs and mancas outside the marsupium is considered.

Abstract In this paper, two new Miridae species are described from Turkey, Adelphophylus oenderi sp. nov. from Silifke (Mersin province) and Phytocoris (Exophytocoris) carapezzai sp. nov. from Merkez (Karaman province). Habitus of males and females and male genitalia of both species and female genitalia of A. oenderi sp. nov. are illustrated. Additionally, 10 Heteroptera species are recorded from Turkey for the first time: Campylomma miyamotoi Yasunaga, 2001, Compsidolon (Compsidolon) elegantulum Reuter, 1899, Hallodapus concolor (Reuter, 1890), Maurodactylus kukuensis V. G. Putshkov, 1978, Pinalitus viscicola (Puton, 1888), Platycranus alkestis Linnavuori, 1999, Zanchius breviceps (Wagner, 1951), Montandoniola moraguesi (Puton, 1896), Temnostethus (Temnostethus) gracilis Horváth, 1907, and Plinthisus (Isioscytus) minutissimus Fieber, 1864. Campylomma miyamotoi Yasunaga, 2001, an Eastern Palaearctic species bound to the ornamental Albizia julibrissin, is a new potentially alien species in the Western Palaearctic. The species status of Compsidolon (Compsidolon) parietariae V. G. Putshkov, 1984 is discussed.

The spiders Walckenaeria stylifrons (O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1875) and Spiracme mongolica (Schenkel, 1963) are reported from Slovakia for the first time. These new records are based on adult males found in Western Slovakia in xerothermic habitats. The occurrence of W. stylifrons in Slovakia fills the gap in its distribution in Pannonian Basin and between Austria and Ukraine. Spiracme mongolica has been known only from the Balkans and south-eastern part of Europe to central Asia, this is the first record for Central Europe. We suggest Spiracme mongolica (Schenkel, 1963) new combination for Xysticus mongolicus Schenkel, 1963. Characteristic features, photographs of habitus and copulatory organs, and habitats of the new records are presented.

Two new species of Neanuridae from the Amazon Rainforest of Northern Brazil are described and illustrated. The new species Frieseamulticlavata sp. nov. (holotype male in MNRJ: Brazil, Amazonas State) belongs to the reducta-group and represents the first record of Frieseinae for Amazonas State in Brazil. Within Pseudachorutinae, the new species Furculanuridaboiuna sp. nov. (holotype male in MNRJ: Brazil, Amazonas State) represents the third species of this genus without eyes and body pigment, together with Furculanuridaafricana (Massoud, 1963) – type species of the genus – and Furculanuridaemucronata Zon et al., 2014, both from Ivory Coast, in Africa. Lastly, an indefinite species of Ectonura sp. (Neanurinae) is the second record of the genus for the Neotropical Region.
