New records of the following 13 species are presented: S. digitilenta Søli, 1997 (Uganda), S. fenestralis Søli, 1997 (South Africa), S. kakumensis Søli, 1997 (Cameroon, Uganda), S. kjaerandseni Søli, 1997 (Uganda), S. koundensis Søli, 1997 (Uganda), S. leptosoma Søli, 1997 (Democratic Republic of Congo), S. longistyla Søli, 1997 (South Africa), S. mazumbaiensis Søli, 1997 (Uganda), S. ocreata Philippi, 1865 (France: La Réunion), S. papula Søli, 1997 (Democratic Republic of Congo), S. pinniger Søli, 1997 (South Africa, Cameroon, Uganda, Kenya), S. quadra Søli, 1997 (Democratic Republic of Congo), S. stellata Søli, 1997 (Uganda). The majority of the new records represent the first ones since initial description of the species. S. ocreata is considered to be introduced to the Island of La Réunion. The number of Afrotropical Sciophila species is set at 23.

The afrotropical species of the subgenus Microserrullula netolitzky, 1921, of the genus Odontium LeConte, 1848 are here revised. We redescribe the three-known species, Odontium aegyptiacum (Dejean, 1831), O. icterodes (Alluaud, 1933) and O. pogonopsis (Alluaud, 1933), and describe four new species: Odontium australe n. sp. (Kenya, Mozambique, Madagascar, South africa); Odontium basilewskyi n. sp. (Democratic Republic of Congo); Odontium okavangum n. sp. (angola, namibia, Zambia); Odontium clarkei n. sp. (Ethiopia). A key for the identification of the african species of the subgenus Microserrullula is presented.

An illustrated key is provided to distinguish the 34 species of genus Thrips reported from the Afrotropical Region, including La Réunion. Seven new synonyms are established as a result of checking type specimens; two new species are described, T. solari from Nigeria and T. kurahashii from South Africa; and the new combination Craspedothrips ghesquierei (Priesner) is established for a species described in Taeniothrips. A diagnosis is given for each species with an indication of the known distribution.

Seven new species of Chiasmini are described, some of which, in combination with generic synonymies included here, substantially extend the known ranges of their genera. The new species are Pratura ceylona sp.nov. from Sri Lanka, Leofa thompsoni sp.nov. from Rwanda and Uganda, L. kumasamba sp.nov. from Zambia, L. pedunculata sp.nov. fromthe Democratic Republic of Congo, L. palearctica sp.nov. from Spain, Exitianus ghaurii sp.nov. from South Africa, and E. apophysisiosus sp.nov. from Madagascar. The classification of Chiasmini is reviewed. Some new characters defining the tribe are described, and of particular importance are those of the female genitalia. A description of the tribe and a list of included genera are provided. Baileyus Pruthi and Gurawa Distant are transferred from Aphrodini to Chiasmini. Leofa Distant 1918 is transferred from Stenometopiini to Chiasmini, and Oneratulus Vilbaste 1975, Prasutagus Distant 1918, and Tortotettix Theron 1982 are considered junior synonyms of Leofa. Leofa is interpreted to include four subgenera: the nominotypical subgenus, Prasutagus, Tortotettix, and Edmundiana subgen.nov. Pratura Theron 1982 is transferred from Deltocephalini to Chiasmini, and Doraturella Emeljanov 2002 is considered a junior synonym. Picchusteles Linnavuori and DeLong, originally included in Macrostelini, is included in Chiasmini. A checklist of the 323 species and subspecies in the tribe, including partial information on distribution and holotype depositories, is provided.

This paper describes five new Ceratitis species from the eastern and southern parts of the Afrotropical Region: C. (Pterandrus) quilicii De Meyer, Mwatawala & Virgilio sp. nov.; C. (Ceratalaspis) pallidula De Meyer, Mwatawala & Virgilio sp. nov.; C. (Ceratalaspis) taitaensis De Meyer & Copeland sp. nov.; C. (Ceratalaspis) sawahilensis De Meyer & Virgilio sp. nov.; and C. (Ceratalaspis) flavipennata De Meyer & Virgilio sp. nov. Their relationships with closely allied species within their respective subgenera are discussed where appropriate, and diagnostic characters are given. DNA barcodes are provided for all new species. In addition, the hitherto unknown male of C. (Pardalaspis) serrata De Meyer, 1996 is described, based on material collected in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Recognition of these new species and sexes is the result of an integrative approach using morphological characters and DNA data.
