Four closely related species of Schinia are diagnosed using characters of maculation, genitalia, larval host plants, and distribution. The revised status of both Schinia albafascia Smith and Schinia brunnea Barnes and McDunnough are based on differences in wing maculation and male and female genitalic structures. The revised synonymy of Schinia megarena Smith with Schinia tertia (Grote) is discussed. Male and female genitalia are described and illustrated for the first time for all species.

Abstract Animal genitalia have changed substantially and rapidly during evolution, and functionally interacting anatomical structures complementarily match between the sexes. Several hypotheses have been proposed to explain how such structure-matching evolved. A test of these hypotheses would require a detailed analysis of male and female genitalia among closely related species and a comparison of the functional aspects of the interacting structures between the sexes. Therefore, here we document genital coupling and copulatory wounds in the four species of the Drosophila auraria complex. The position of the protrusion of the median gonocoxite of males relative to the female terminalia differed among the species, which may reflect differences in protrusion morphology. Species-specific female structures were discovered on the membrane between the genitalia and analia and on the vaginal wall. The former makes contact with the protrusion, and the latter makes contact with appendages of the aedeagus. Copulatory wounds, which are produced during copulation, were seen at three locations on females: depressions near the genital orifice, the membrane between the genitalia and analia, and the vaginal wall. Some of the copulatory wounds were located at sites that could potentially make contact with the species-specific structures that we identified. We speculate that the female structures that differ between species of the D. auraria complex evolved in concert with the genitalia of male conspecifics.

The East Asian noctuid genus Lophomilia Warren, 1913 (=Atuntsea Berio, 1977, Bryograpta Sugi, 1977) is revised. Four new species (L. nekrasovi sp. n., L. rustica sp. n., L. diehli sp. n., and L. kobesi sp. n.) are described from Russian Far East, Korea, China and Indonesia, Sumatra. Lophomilia takao Sugi, 1962 and Lophomilia albicosta Yoshimoto 1995 are reported for the first time from China; Lophomilia polybapta (Butler, 1879) is first reported from Russia. The male and female genitalia of most species are described, adults of 12 species from East Asia are illustrated, and distribution maps for all species are presented.

The revised status of Schinia crotchii is based on differences in male and female genitalic structures and distribution of larval host plant. Schinia navarra Dyar remains a synonym of S. cupes (Grote). Genitalia of both sexes of S. crotchii, S. cupes, and S. deserticola Barnes and McDunnough are described and illustrated for the first time. Distributions of larval hosts of both S. crotchii and S. deserticola are mapped and compared with adult moth distributions.

Based on museum and private collections, two new species of the subfamily Acronictinae are described from China and Russia, Transbaikalia and Primorye Territory: Acronicta (Triaena) psichinensis sp. n. and Acronicta (Viminia) dahurica sp. n. The adults and male and female genitalia of the new species are illustrated and compared to related species. Distribution maps for the new species are presented.

A new species of the genus Lasianobia Hampson, 1905, Lasianobia nainysi Saldaitis, Volynkin & Zahiri, sp. nov. is described from highlands of western Sichuan Province of China. The new species is closely related to Lasianobia albilinea (Draudt, 1950). Adults, male and female genitalia as well as DNA barcode data of the new and related species are presented.

Mythimna rufulosa Wiltshire, 1986 is redescribed, the hitherto unknown female of the species is illustrated and described for the first time. The species is reported from Jordan for the first time. Adults, male and female genitalia, and the habitat of the species in Jordan are illustrated.
