The genus Nogunius Jałoszyński was proposed to accommodate four species distributed exclusively in Japan: N. sokani Jałoszyński (Okinawa Island), N. aogashimanus Jałoszyński (Aogashima, Izu Islands), N. kerri Jałoszyński (Ishigaki Island), and N. fukuuzanus Jałoszyński (Okinawa Island). A female of an undescribed species collected in mainland Japan, on Shikoku, was also recorded. In the present paper we provide evidence that this interesting and apparently very rare genus occurs also on Kyushu. Nogunius sagaensis sp. n. is described, based on a single male collected in Saga Prefecture, NW Kyushu. Diagnostic characters of all nominal species are compared, and a distribution of Nogunius is summarized.

A new species of the anthocorid genus Orius Wolff (subgenus Heterorius Wagner), O. (H.) hibiscus sp. n., is described, based on specimens recently found from the coastal area of Okinawa Island, Ryukyus, Japan. This new species, evidently most related to Orius (Heterorius) strigicollis (Poppius), was found to prefer cryptic habitat, or bract and flower bud of Hibiscus tiliaceus (L.) (Malvaceae) planted at urbanized zones in Naha City. Diagnostic characters of the new species are described, comparing with those of other Japanese members of Heterorius, based on detailed observation using a SEM. An updated checklist and revised key are provided to aid in identification of all known Japanese Orius species.

The genus Peliosanthes Andrews (1810: 605) belonging to the family Asparagaceae is represented by more than 70 species in tropical and subtropical Asia (IPNI 2019). In the past 15 years many species have been discovered and described from China, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam (Tanaka 2004, Tamura et al. 2008, Averyanov & Tanaka 2012, Averyanov et al. 2013, 2015a, 2015b, 2017, Nguyen et al. 2017, Roy et al. 2017, Vislobokov 2016, Vislobokov et al. 2018). In September 2015, we collected plants of Peliosanthes growing in shadow, primary broad-leaved evergreen forests on rocky limestone mountains in southwestern Guangxi, China. They had fasciculate flowers in the axils and hence appears to be closely allied to P. teta Andrews (1810: 605), but after a close study, we found them differ clearly from the former in many significant diagnostic characters. We therefore consider the plants to represent an undescribed species and name them here.

To date, three nominal species of the eutheiine genus Paraneseuthia were known to occur in Japan (in Honshū and Kyūshū). A female of an undescribed species was also recorded from Iriomote Island of the Ryūkyū Archipelago. Two new species are here added to this list: P. ishigakianas p. n. (Ishigaki Is.) and P. ehimensis sp. n. (Shikoku). Paraneseuthia holzneri (Franz), described on the basis of a single male with erected and distorted aedeagus, is recorded from a new locality and its aedeagus is illustrated.

Fulvius Stål (Cylapinae: Fulviini) is a large plant bug genus, with more than 80 described species distributed throughout the world (Schuh, 1995; 2002–2014). In Japan, five species listed below have been recorded mostly from the subtropical Ryukyu arc (Yasunaga, 2000, 2001; Yasunaga & Miyamoto, 2006; Yasunaga et al., 2012). Our recent closer examinations of these Japanese species suggest that (1) what was previously identified as Fulvius dimidiatus Poppius represents an undescribed species, and (2) F. nakatai Yasunaga & Miyamoto described from Okinawa Island is evidently conspecific with F. subnitens Poppius that was described from New Guinea but is now known from pantropical zones as well as Taiwan, Europe and United States (Gorczyca, 2006; Henry et al., 2011). The present paper provides a revised checklist for the Japanese species of Fulvius, with updated distributional records. A new species, F. nozawai, is diagnosed and described, its habitat and biology are also documented, and Fulvius nakatai is proposed as a junior synonym of the pantropical F. subnitens.

A new species of Limnonectes from central Vietnam is described based on morphological and molecular differences. Morphologically, the new species is distinguishable from its congeners on the basis of a combination of the following diagnostic characters: SVL 47.5–60.9 in males, 42.3–51.1 mm in females; males with moderately enlarged head (HL/SVL 0.48), head longer than wide; vomerine teeth present; external vocal sacs absent; rostral length short (RL/SVL 0.14 in males, 0.15 in females); tympanum invisible; dorsal surface of head, body, and flanks smooth; dorsal surface of tibia and foot distinctly tuberculate, covered with moderately dense, small, low tubercles; supratympanic fold present; dorsolateral fold absent; toes webbed to posterior of terminal phalanx; in life, dorsum with light yellowish brown markings, throat and chest white with brown markings, and ventral surface of abdomen white or white with brown markings. In phylogenetic analyses, the new species is the sister taxon to an undescribed species from Cambodia.

Formerly Cnemidophorus was thought to be the most speciose genus of Teiidae. This genus comprised four morphological groups that were later defined as four different genera, Ameivula, Aurivela, Cnemidophorus and Contomastix. The last appears as paraphyletic in a recent phylogenetic reconstruction based on morphology, but monophyletic in a reconstruction using molecular characters. Six species are allocated to Contomastix. One of them, C. lacertoides, having an extensive and disjunct geographic distribution in Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil. Preliminary analyses revealed morphological differences among its populations, suggesting that it is actually a complex of species. Here, we describe a new species corresponding to the Argentinian populations hitherto regarded as C. lacertoides, by integrating morphological and molecular evidence. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the presence of notched proximal margin of the tongue is a character that defines the genus Contomastix.

A total of 14 species in seven tingid genera have been described from the mid-Cretaceous Burmese (Kachin) amber from northern Myanmar, with very distinct paleofauna. Here, a new species of a new genus, Burmavianaida anomalocapitata gen. et sp. nov., is described from Kachin amber. This new species can be readily distinguished from the other described tingid taxa by the apparently smaller body and the structures of the pronotum and hemelytron. Burmavianaida gen. nov. shares the diagnostic characters with two clades composed of three extant subfamilies (Cantacaderinae + Tinginae) and Vianaidinae and may represent an extinct clade distinct from them. To the best of our knowledge, B. anomalocapitata sp. nov. is the smallest species of Tingidae among over 2600 described species. Our new finding supports the hypothesis of the miniaturization phenomenon of insects in Kachin amber, as suggested by previous studies.

AbstractAhnea keejeongi Park and Carlton (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Pselaphinae), a new genus and new species of New Zealand endemic beetle belonging to the supertribe Faronitae is described. Six previously described species are included to this genus and four species are synonymised as follow: Sagola dissonans Broun, 1921 and S. planicula Broun, 1921 under Ahnea ventralis (Broun, 1912); S. carinata Broun, 1912 and S. lineiceps Broun, 1921 under Ahnea lineata (Broun, 1893). A key to species, habitus photographs, line drawings of diagnostic characters, and distribution maps are provided.

Xylaria fusispora, an undescribed species of Xylaria (Xylariales, Xylariaceae), is described and illustrated as a new species based on collections from Guizhou Province, China. Both morphology and phylogenetic analysis of nrDNA ITS sequences support the establishment of this new species. The fungus is characterized by its fusoid-equilateral ascospores and an ascus apical ring not bluing in Melzer’s reagent. The differences between the new species and the related fungi are discussed.
