Diagnosis of Brain Tumor Using Nano Segmentation and Advanced-Convolutional Neural Networks Classification

The field of nanotechnology has lately acquired prominence according to the raised level of correct identification and performance in the patients using Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD). Nano-scale imaging model enables for a high level of precision and accuracy in determining if a brain tumour is malignant or benign. This contributes to people with brain tumours having a better standard of living. In this study, We present a revolutionary Semantic nano-segmentation methodology for the nanoscale classification of brain tumours. The suggested Advanced-Convolutional Neural Networks-based Semantic Nano-segmentation will aid radiologists in detecting brain tumours even when lesions are minor. ResNet-50 was employed in the suggested Advanced-Convolutional Neural Networks (A-CNN) approach. The tumour image is partitioned using Semantic Nano-segmentation, that has averaged dice and SSIM values of 0.9704 and 0.2133, correspondingly. The input is a nano-image, and the tumour image is segmented using Semantic Nano-segmentation, which has averaged dice and SSIM values of 0.9704 and 0.2133, respectively. The suggested Semantic nano segments achieves 93.2 percent and 92.7 percent accuracy for benign and malignant tumour pictures, correspondingly. For malignant or benign pictures, The accuracy of the A-CNN methodology of correct segmentation is 99.57 percent and 95.7 percent, respectively. This unique nano-method is designed to detect tumour areas in nanometers (nm) and hence accurately assess the illness. The suggested technique’s closeness to with regard to True Positive values, the ROC curve implies that it outperforms earlier approaches. A comparison analysis is conducted on ResNet-50 using testing and training data at rates of 90%–10%, 80%–20%, and 70%–30%, corresponding, indicating the utility of the suggested work.

AbstractThe automatic interpretation of sign languages is a challenging task, as it requires the usage of high-level vision and high-level motion processing systems for providing accurate image perception. In this paper, we use Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and transfer learning to make computers able to interpret signs of the Swedish Sign Language (SSL) hand alphabet. Our model consists of the implementation of a pre-trained InceptionV3 network, and the usage of the mini-batch gradient descent optimization algorithm. We rely on transfer learning during the pre-training of the model and its data. The final accuracy of the model, based on 8 study subjects and 9400 images, is 85%. Our results indicate that the usage of CNNs is a promising approach to interpret sign languages, and transfer learning can be used to achieve high testing accuracy despite using a small training dataset. Furthermore, we describe the implementation details of our model to interpret signs as a user-friendly web application.

The importance of road characteristics has been highlighted, as road characteristics are fundamental structures established to support many transportation-relevant services. However, there is still huge room for improvement in terms of types and performance of road characteristics detection. With the advantage of geographically tiled maps with high update rates, remarkable accessibility, and increasing availability, this paper proposes a novel simple deep-learning-based approach, namely joint convolutional neural networks (CNNs) adopting adaptive squares with combination rules to detect road characteristics from roadmap tiles. The proposed joint CNNs are responsible for the foreground and background image classification and various types of road characteristics classification from previous foreground images, raising detection accuracy. The adaptive squares with combination rules help efficiently focus road characteristics, augmenting the ability to detect them and provide optimal detection results. Five types of road characteristics—crossroads, T-junctions, Y-junctions, corners, and curves—are exploited, and experimental results demonstrate successful outcomes with outstanding performance in reality. The information of exploited road characteristics with location and type is, thus, converted from human-readable to machine-readable, the results will benefit many applications like feature point reminders, road condition reports, or alert detection for users, drivers, and even autonomous vehicles. We believe this approach will also enable a new path for object detection and geospatial information extraction from valuable map tiles.

In this article, we designed and implemented neural controllers to control a nonlinear and unstable magnetic levitation system composed of an electromagnet and a magnetic disk. The objective was to evaluate the implementation and performance of neural control algorithms in a low-cost hardware. In a first phase, we designed two classical controllers with the objective to provide the training data for the neural controllers. After, we identified several neural models of the levitation system using Nonlinear AutoRegressive eXogenous (NARX)-type neural networks that were used to emulate the forward dynamics of the system. Finally, we designed and implemented three neural control structures: the inverse controller, the internal model controller, and the model reference controller for the control of the levitation system. The neural controllers were tested on a low-cost Arduino control platform through MATLAB/Simulink. The experimental results proved the good performance of the neural controllers.

Three different modeling approaches were applied to explain truck accidents at interchanges in Washington State during a 27-month period. Three models were developed for each ramp type including linear regression, neural networks, and a hybrid system using fuzzy logic and neural networks. The study showed that linear regression was able to predict accident frequencies that fell within one standard deviation from the overall mean of the dependent variable. However, the coefficient of determination was very low in all cases. The other two artificial intelligence (AI) approaches showed a high level of performance in identifying different patterns of accidents in the training data and presented a better fit when compared to the regression model. However, the ability of these AI models to predict test data that were not included in the training process showed unsatisfactory results.

Cell segmentation is a fundamental problem in biology for which convolutional neural networks yield the best results nowadays. In this paper, we present HarmonicNet, a network, which is a modification of the popular StarDist and SplineDist architectures. While StarDist and SplineDist describe an object by the lengths of equiangular rays and control points respectively, our network utilizes Fourier descriptors, predicting a coefficient vector for every pixel on the image, which implicitly define the resulting segmentation. We evaluate our model on three different datasets, and show that Fourier descriptors can achieve a high level of accuracy with a small number of coefficients. HarmonicNet is also capable of accurately segmenting objects that are not star-shaped, a case where StarDist performs suboptimally according to our experiments.

Abstract. Satellite-Derived Bathymetry (SDB) has been used in many applications related to coastal management. SDB can efficiently fill data gaps obtained from traditional measurements with echo sounding. However, it still requires numerous training data, which is not available in many areas. Furthermore, the accuracy problem still arises considering the linear model could not address the non-relationship between reflectance and depth due to bottom variations and noise. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) offers the ability to capture the connection between neighbouring pixels and the non-linear relationship. These CNN characteristics make it compelling to be used for shallow water depth extraction. We investigate the accuracy of different architectures using different window sizes and band combinations. We use Sentinel-2 Level 2A images to provide reflectance values, and Lidar and Multi Beam Echo Sounder (MBES) datasets are used as depth references to train and test the model. A set of Sentinel-2 and in-situ depth subimage pairs are extracted to perform CNN training. The model is compared to the linear transform and applied to two other study areas. Resulting accuracy ranges from 1.3 m to 1.94 m, and the coefficient of determination reaches 0.94. The SDB model generated using a window size of 9x9 indicates compatibility with the reference depths, especially at areas deeper than 15 m. The addition of both short wave infrared bands to the four visible bands in training improves the overall accuracy of SDB. The implementation of the pre-trained model to other study areas provides similar results depending on the water conditions.

Segmentation of faults based on seismic images is an important step in reservoir characterization. With the recent developments of deep-learning methods and the availability of massive computing power, automatic interpretation of seismic faults has become possible. The likelihood of occurrence for a fault can be quantified using a sigmoid function. Our goal is to quantify the fault model uncertainty that is generally not captured by deep-learning tools. We propose to use the dropout approach, a regularization technique to prevent overfitting and co-adaptation in hidden units, to approximate the Bayesian inference and estimate the principled uncertainty over functions. Particularly, the variance of the learned model has been decomposed into aleatoric and epistemic parts. The proposed method is applied to a real dataset from the Netherlands F3 block with two different dropout ratios in convolutional neural networks. The aleatoric uncertainty is irreducible since it relates to the stochastic dependency within the input observations. As the number of Monte-Carlo realizations increases, the epistemic uncertainty asymptotically converges and the model standard deviation decreases, because the variability of model parameters is better simulated or explained with a larger sample size. This analysis can quantify the confidence to use fault predictions with less uncertainty. Additionally, the analysis suggests where more training data are needed to reduce the uncertainty in low confidence regions.
