The potential of freshwater aquaculture area in South Aceh has not been optimally pursued; this is due to the limited technological and information capabilities, institutions and funding. The purpose of this study was to map the suitability of freshwater aquaculture land by utilizing the Geographic Information System (GIS) and multi criteria analysis in South Aceh. Determination of land suitability is done through the Multi Criteria Evaluation (MCE) and application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The results of the analysis show that the appropriate location (S1) is 81.55% (of the total area sample area) and the location which is not suitable is 18.45% (of the total area sample area). This indicates that the coastal areas of South Aceh have potential freshwater aquaculture areas.

Kata kunci: Perumahan kos rendah; sistem maklumat geografi; kaedah penilaian pelbagai kriteria Rapid urbanization resulted from the growth in the industrial and construction sectors in Malaysia has increased the demand towards residential place. These demands, however, are constantly limited due to the scarcity of natural resources especially in land. The shortage in potentially developed land for urban development especially for low–cost housing has become a challenge to planners and policy makers in this country. Nevertheless, in–depth rescarches on the suitability of site for residential development are still less being conducted in this country today. This article demonstrates the potential of integrating GIS (Geographic Information System) and MCE (Multicriteria Evaluation) in selecting suitable sites for low–cost housing in the Seberang Perai Utara, Penang State, Malaysia. This analysis was carried out based on eight factors and one constraint while taking into consideration the evaluation by experts and individuals in decision making process. This analysis has the potential to be used in solving low–cost housing site selection problem involving spatial factors and its constraints. Key words: Low–cost housing; geographic information system; multicriteria evaluation approach

Rajasthan is a region with very limited water resources. Water is the most crucial for maintaining an environment and ecosystem conducive to sustaining all forms of life. The principle of watershed management is the proper management of all the precipitation by the way of collection, storage and efficient utilization of runoff water and to recharge the ground water. The present study aim's to identify suitable zones for water harvesting structures in Pisangan watershed of Ajmer district, Rajasthan by using Geographic Information System (GIS) and Multi Criteria Evaluation (MSE). Multi criteria evaluation is carried out in Geographic Information system to help the decision makers in determining suitable zones for water harvesting structures based on the physical characteristics of the watershed. Different layers which were taken into account for multi criteria evaluation are; Soil texture, slope, rainfall data (2000–2012), land use/cover, geomorphology, lithology, lineaments, drainage network. The soil conservation service model was used to estimate the runoff depth of the study area Analytical Hierarchy Processes (AHP) is used to find suitable water harvesting structures on the basis of rainfall. Produced suitability map will help in the selection of harvesting structures such as percolation tanks, storage tank, check dams and stop dams.

Optimal locations for public parks are significant issues in a town planning. The current distribution of public park in Kata Bharu, not reflect their current population densities. Therefore, Kata Bharu Municipal Council (MP KB) administration area was selected as the study area where the land suitability model was applied to determine the suitable area for public parks. This study was carried out using an Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) as a multi-criteria evaluation approach by integrating it with the Geographic Information System (GJS). The IDRISI GJS package was used to calculate the weights based on four alternative scenarios; (a) population density, (b) existing public parks, (c) industrial area and, (d) land availability. Based on the findings made in this research, suitable locations for future public park development is highly helpful in the future land use planning in Kot a Bharu, Kelantan.
