This case report describes the use of canine demineralized freeze-dried membrane allograft and cancellous bone graft material to treat an infrabony osseous defect along the lingual aspect of a left mandibular canine in a 10-year-old miniature dachshund. Postoperative examination 6 and 12 months postoperatively showed osseous integration at the infrabony defect and improvement in periodontal probing measurements.

One of the most common dental cysts to affect the human jaw is radicular cyst. The tooth/teeth associated with radicular cysts are usually non-vital and rarely presents with clinical signs and symptoms until diagnosed during routine dental examination. The present case report highlights on radicular cyst enucleation, apicoectomy of the involved teeth and periodontal management of the resultant osseous defect using alloplast bone graft, platelet-rich brin (PRF) and guided tissue regeneration (GTR) membrane.

ABSTRACT This case report presents a technique for utilizing autogenous corticocancellous graft from the mandibular symphysial area to fill a three-walled infrabony defect in a patient diagnosed with generalized aggressive periodontitis. After debridement, a 9 mm defect was present distal to the mandibular first molar. Autogenous bone graft harvested from the mandibular symphysial region was placed in the defect. There was a significant fill at the site 9 months postoperative and a reduction in probing depth was recorded at 4 mm. How to cite this article Bhardwaj A, Grover HS, Luthra S. Periodontitis is periodontal inflammation in response to plaque bacterial antigens, causing damage to periodontal ligament and alveolar bone resorption. Bone graft material combination i.e. demineralized freeze-dried bone allograft (DFDBA) and hydroxyapatite (HA) using sandwich bone augmentation (SBA) method will support each other and will be beneficial to be used as a scaffold. The body takes long time to resorb HA so this could complement DFDBA which is more easily dissolved. This study aimed to reveal the effect of bone graft addition using SBA method on the treatment of infrabony pocket with open flap debridement in terms of probing depth, relative attachment loss, alveolar bone height, and density. This study was carried out to 20 infrabony pockets, where 10 of them were treated using open flap debridement with HA addition, while the other 10 groups were treated using open flap debridement with DFDBA and HA using SBA method. Probing depth  and relative attachment loss were measured on days 0, 30 and 90. Bone height and density were measured using cone-beam computed tomography (images on day 0 and 90). The study showed that probing depth reduction on SBA group was greater than HA group. There were significant differences in probing depth and relative attachment loss examinations. However, bone height and bone density reduction did not show any significant difference. The conclusion from this study is open flap debridement using SBA method yields better regeneration in terms of probing depth and relative attachment loss than open flap debridement with HA addition. There is no difference in bone height and bone density between the two groups.

The aim of the present study is to assess the clinical and histological healing of a post-extractive alveolus following the procedure for socket preservation, in a patient receiving oral bisphosphonates for more than 6 years. After the extraction, enzymatically-deantigenated horse bone granules and an equine pericardium membrane were used to preserve the tooth socket. The patient was placed on a monthly follow-up in order to monitor the healing process. A 3 mm trephine bur was used to drill the bone for implant site preparation and to collect the bone sample. No signs and symptoms related to osteonecrosis of the jaws were reported. Histological data showed that, after 5 months, the mean percentages of trabecular bone, bone marrow and residual bone graft were respectively 45.74 ± 0.09%, 48.09 ± 0.08%, and 6.16 ± 0.01%. The residual graft material appeared to be osteointegrated and none of the particles appeared to be encapsulated. The present case report supports the guidelines that assume that patients undergoing oral bisphosphonate therapy can be eligible for surgical therapy. More clinical studies with larger sample sizes are needed to support this clinical evidence.

Transmigration of mandibular canine is an unusual phenomenon characterized by movement of the impacted canine crossing the mandibular midline. Mandibular canine are rarely found impacted in a horizontal position in the mandible. Most of the time, this entity occurred as an isolated finding. However there are reports showing association of dentigerous cyst and a hyperdontia. The purpose of this report is to present a case of transmigrated canine associated with agenesis of mandibular both central incisors which is not reported previously.
