Background Receiving preoperative information is a right of all parents whose children are admitted for surgery. Information for parents can help to prepare children and lessen anxiety for both parent and child. Aim This study aims to assess the preoperative information needs of parents. Methods This was a cross-sectional descriptive study. A non-probability convenience sampling technique was used to select 100 parents whose children, aged between 0 and 18 years, were admitted for surgery. The Parents Desire for Information scale was used to collect the data, which were then analysed using descriptive statistics. Results The majority of the sample indicated that it is essential to receive preoperative information. The aspects of preoperative information rated as essential were as follows: need for the surgery; duration of hospitalisation; informed consent; fasting time; investigations; medications; physical preparations; dress code for the child; waiting time and place; parental involvement in the operating theatre/recovery/ward; pain management; post-operative care including eating, drinking, ambulation, wound care, discharge instructions and follow up. The majority (60%) of the parents said that they prefer to receive verbal instructions. The majority (63%) of the study participants said that it was the doctors who provided the information, and of these, 70% rated the information received as good. Conclusions The present study concludes that parents of children undergoing surgery welcome comprehensive preoperative information.

Purpose of the study: The study evaluated the strengths and weaknesses of a library system in a state-owned university to ensure that the information needs and services of clients are adequate. It looked into the available resources and required facilities to assess changes and improvement. Likewise, the functional effectiveness of the academic library was also determined. Methodology: The study used a descriptive survey method to describe available library resources and the extent of the functional effectiveness of academic library services of the Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) Philippines. The 175 respondents came from the most frequent library users. This study utilized the purposive sampling technique. Descriptive statistics were used to determine the adequacy and functional effectiveness of the library. Result: The result revealed that the library services surpassed the minimum requirements on holdings and Filipiniana collection, but did not meet the required library collection published within the last five years. Periodicals needed to increase subscriptions and ICT required improvement. Librarians are qualified to manage the library. The respondents perceived the functional effectiveness of library services to be useful and very effective. Novelty/Originality of this study: This research study gives an empirical data as bases on the provision of Sustainable Development Plan to cater to the nature of users in the digital age with the consideration to balance the physical and virtual resources. Practical implications: This paper will be most helpful to academic libraries to continually revisit the resources and services to be responsive to the vision and vision of the university, demand for curriculum change, and research endeavour.

AbstractInformation seeking and receiving is the universally accepted right of children. When the children gets hospitalized and preparing for a surgery, it's the responsibility of the health care professionals to provide them with adequate information. Before giving the information it is essential to know what the children really wants to know. The main purpose of the study was to assess preoperative information needs of children undergoing surgery. With the non experimental research approach, a descriptive survey design was used in the study which was conducted in a selected hospital Mangaluru. Using non probability purposive sampling technique, 100 children of age 6-18 years were selected as study participants. The tool used were – the baseline proforma and the children's desire for preoperative information scale. The study results showed that majority of the children wanted to know the information regarding all the major happenings in their pre, intra and post operative events. Thus the study concludes that a structured preoperative teaching programme can be developed by the health care facility for the children undergoing surgery.

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perilaku pencarian informasi pecatur di Unit Catur Mahasiswa Unpad (UCMU) dalam memenuhi kebutuhan informasi. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu pendekatan kuantitatif dengan analisis survey deskriptif. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh anggota aktif Unit Catur Mahasiswa Unpad yang berjumlah 32 orang. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu angket, wawancara dan studi pustaka. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar pecatur menggunakan internet sebagai sumber infomasi rujukan, untuk menunjang informasi yang telah diperoleh pecatur melakukan penelusuran melalui internet juga, pecatur memilih informasi yang mudah dipahami, informasi yang paling sering dicari pecatur adalah mengenai opening catur, pecatur melakukan diskusi dengan pelatih atau pemain catur lain untuk memperbaharui informasi yang telah dimiliki, pecatur bermain secara online untuk mendalami informasi yang telah dimiliki. Kata Kunci: perilaku pencarian informasi, pecatur, kebutuhan informasi.  ABSTRACT This study aims to find out the information searching behavior of chess players in Unpad Student Chess Unit (UCMU) in meeting the information needs. The research method used is a quantitative approach with descriptive survey analysis. The population in this study are all active members of Unit Unpad Student Chess which amounted to 32 people. Data collection techniques used were questionnaires, interviews and literature study. The conclusions of this study indicate that most chess players use the internet as a source of referral information, to support the information that has been obtained by chess players to search through the internet as well, the most frequently sought by chess players are chess opening, chess players choose more understandble information, chess players to discuss with coaches or other chess players to update the information already owned, chess players play online to explore information already owned. Keywords: information seeking behavior, chess player, information needs.

The paper examines the evaluation of collection management and student’s use of Arabic materials in the four selected Academic Libraries in Nigeria. A descriptive survey research was used to carry out the investigation. The population was randomly sampled and covered all the matriculated student of the selected institutions that were registered as a library user. The questionnaires were thereafter sent to each of the institutions surveyed to facilitate prompt, high and accurate response from target population. Data were analyzed using frequency and percentages. Findings of the study showed that all the tertiary institutions libraries under study found Arabic materials readily available. Another finding in this study showed that students use the library for seeking their information needs. It has been revealed that facilities are organized for easy use. The finding showed that acquisition and collection polices were evaluated mainly to cater for students information needs. In addition, Arabic students were significantly satisfied with the library collection policy. There is a significant relationship between the libraries Arabic based services/facilities and students educational development. The study concludes that Arabic based services/ facilities can, to a considerable extent, satisfy the information needs of users. The study will benefit researchers, Arabic studies teachers, students and Islamic organization, nation-wide and internationally.
