AbstractIn this paper, a novel particle filter–based visual contour tracking method is proposed, which uses inner-contour model to track contour object under complex background. The purpose is to achieve effectiveness and robustness against complex background. To that end, the proposed method first utilized Sobel edge detector to detect the edge information along the normal line of the contour. Then, it sampled the inner part of the normal line to get the local color information, which was then combined with the edge information to construct new normal line likelihood. After that, all the inner color information was used to construct global color likelihood. Finally, the edge information, local color information, and global color information were fused into new observation likelihood. Experimental results showed that the proposed method was robust for contours tracking under complex background, and it was also computationally efficient and can run in real-time completely.

In this paper, we suggest a method of detecting defects by applying Hough transform and least squares on ceramic images obtained from non-destructive testing. In the ceramic images obtained from non-destructive testing, the background area, where the defect does not exist, commonly shows gradual change of luminosity in vertical direction. In order to extract the background area which is going to be used in the detection of defects, Hough transform is performed to rotate the ceramic image in a way that the direction of overall luminosity change lies in the vertical direction as much as possible. Least squares is then applied on the rotated image to approximate the contrast value of the background area. The extracted background area is used for extracting defects from the ceramic images. In this paper we applied this method on ceramic images acquired from non-destructive testing. It was confirmed that extracted background area could be effectively applied for searching the section where the defect exists and detecting the defect.

This paper presents a fast algorithm for face detection in complex background, in which image color information is used first, project upper part of the partition of face in the gray image to horizontal and vertical direction. Determine the eyes positions by the minimum value, and scope the human eye in the face of prior knowledge to judge and adjust the face region.
