Significance Trade-offs with other policy concerns such as domestic job creation pose political dilemmas. Both green technology products and their inputs are increasingly seen as strategic, prompting efforts to secure supply chains, which risk generating trade frictions and geopolitical disputes that could affect the cost efficiency of green technology. Impacts Global supply chain traceability will become more important for low-carbon companies and investors. The need to meet increased demand for green-technology minerals will create opportunities in the areas of recycling and recovery. Green technology transfer between Western and Chinese companies will become subject to trade disputes.

The European Union (EU) identified a number of raw materials that are strategic for its economy but suffer at the same time from a high supply risk. Such critical raw materials (CRMs) are used in a wide range of commercial and governmental applications: green technology, telecommunications, space exploration, aerial imaging, aviation, medical devices, micro-electronics, transportation, defense, and other high-technology products and services. As a result, the industry, the environment, and our quality and modern way of life are reliant on the access and use of them. In this scenario, recycling may be a strategic mitigating action aimed at reducing the critical raw materials supply risks. In this work, a design strategy is proposed for alloys selection that minimizes the number of CRMs with the lowest end-of-life recycling input rate. The method is illustrated with an example.

Green technology has become an emerging industry to resolve human concerns over energy use, global warming, and sustainable development. At its current stage, people are likely to experience gaps between valuing and purchasing these products. Proponents of green technology may also need to consider the differences between green-technology products so as to produce better product-specific designs and to consider gender differences in designs based on human consideration. Semi-structured interviews with quantitative data collection were conducted with 54 participants in Taiwan. Important findings include: (1) There are positive relations between value and purchase for appliances, but not for vehicles. (2) Value-purchase gaps are strong for both appliances and vehicles. (3) People’s rationales for the gaps include multiplicity, ego, development, economy, and pragmatism approaches. (4) People’s concerns about multiplicity and pragmatism are stronger for vehicles than for appliances. (5) Females’ concern about pragmatism for vehicles is less than males.’

The objective of this study is to analyze the determinants of Brazilian exports by levels of technological intensity in the period 2000-2015. Gravity models were estimated for total of the exports and for each type of exports by levels of technological intensity, using the PPML-estimator. The study indicates that there is a process of concentration of Brazilian exports in low technology and medium-low technology products, at the same period in which China's share of total Brazilian shipments abroad grew. Estimates of empirical gravity models have shown that the income and size of the consumer market of Brazil’s trading partners seem to have the greatest positive influence on the Brazilian exports. Indications of this study are that the Brazil should continue to diversify its trading partners to minimize the impacts of a possible reduction of the economic growth of large trading partners (such as China and the US) on its exports and increase its exports of products with greater technological intensity. The results also highlight the need for Brazil to make greater efforts to increase its competitiveness in the international market to reduce the negative impacts of transport costs on the final prices of products exported by the country.
