Abstract Different nanomedicine devices that were developed during the recent years can be suitable candidates for their application in the treatment of various deadly diseases such as cancer. From all the explored devices, the nanoencapsulation of several anticancer medicines is a very promising approach to overcome some drawbacks of traditional medicines: administered dose of the drugs, drug toxicity, low solubility of drugs, uncontrolled drug delivery, resistance offered by the physiological barriers in the body to drugs, among others. In this chapter, the most important and recent progress in the encapsulation of anticancer medicines is examined: methods of preparation of distinct nanoparticles (inorganic nanoparticles, dendrimers, biopolymeric nanoparticles, polymeric micelles, liposomes, polymersomes, carbon nanotubes, quantum dots, and hybrid nanoparticles), drug loading and drug release mechanisms. Furthermore, the possible applications in cancer prevention, diagnosis, and cancer therapy of some of these nanoparticles have been highlighted.

Carbon nanotubes are the most commonly used ‘building blocks’ of modern nanotechnology. Their unique mechanical and electronic properties, stability and functionality show great promise in creating functional devices on the nanometre scale. One of the great challenges in using this scale is the ability of physical manipulation of the components, such as their positioning and assembling. Strong correlation between the structure and mechanical interactions of the walls of carbon nanotubes provides self-regulation of their relative motion. This can be further exploited in low-friction and high-stiffness devices. In this paper, we present a condensed overview of the recent progress in fundamental understanding of nanomechanical and nanoelectromechanical behaviour of carbon nanotubes and their applications in nanodevices.

ABSTRACTCarbon nanotubes (CNTs) possess superior mechanical, physical and chemical properties that make them ideal candidates for making sensors. However, challenges restricting their widespread applications in sensors still exist. To make the CNTs-based sensors own higher performance, nature has offered us with scientific and technological clues from the formation of biological composites using common organic components via naturally mild approaches. This paper reviews the recent progress on the bio-inspired synthesis of the CNTs-based sensors and their unique structures and novel properties.

This article provides a comprehensive review of the recent progress in the application of advanced two-dimensional nanomaterials (2DNMs) in membranes fabrication and application for water purification. The membranes fouling, its types, and anti-fouling mechanisms of different 2DNMs containing membrane systems are also discussed. The developments in membrane synthesis and modification using 2DNMs, especially graphene and graphene family materials, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), MXenes, and others are critically reviewed. Further, the application potential of next-generation 2DNMs-based membranes in water/wastewater treatment systems is surveyed. Finally, the current problems and future opportunities of applying 2DNMs for anti-fouling membranes are also debated.
