Photolytic oxidation of aliphatic acids with aqueous H2O2 has been studied. Formic acid gives CO2 and H2O. Acetic acid gives products containing CO2, methane, formic, glycolic, and tartaric acids. Propionic acid gives CO2, methane, ethane, acetic, formic, lactic, β-hydroxypropionic, malonic, and glycolic acids. A mechanism involving an initial H-atom abstraction by HO•formed via photo-dissociation of H2O2 is postulated and discussed.

Photolysis of methanethiol in the presence of oxygen has been investigated at 228.8 and 254–265 nm. The major products detected were 2,3-dithiabutane and a liquid, tentatively identified as hydrogen peroxide. The quantum yield of sulfur dioxide was found to be small (3 × 10−5) at 25 °C, increasing only by an order of magnitude at 125 °C. It has therefore been concluded that the reaction between CH3S and oxygen is very slow if it occurs at all.

The effect of exposing bleached banana skin powder-filled natural rubber products to sun light and weather with variation of bleached banana skin powder filler loading. Banana skin powder was dried and bleached with hydrogen peroxide and made into disperse system. Natural rubber latex was compounded with bleached banana skin powder with filler loading of 0 to 20 phr (per hundred rubber). Natural rubber latex products, which were produced, were hung in air and exposed to sun light and weather. The degradation of bleached banana skin powder-filled natural rubber products were evaluated by calculating weight loss of samples and performing Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) test. Natural rubber latex lost weight after exposure to sun light and weather from 1 to 16 weeks due to photo-oxidation process.
