This study examined the health risk profile of prostitutes in Dublin. Clinical records of all 150 new prostitutes who attended a drop in clinic for prostitutes in Dublin city during the period 1991-1997 were reviewed. Variables examined included: age, use of injectable drugs, human immunodeficiency virus HIV status, hepatitis B and C status, presence of sexually transmitted disease STD , cervical cytology. Results showed the mean age of the women was 32 years. Among those tested, 2.5 were HIV positive, 5 were hepatitis B positive, 8 were hepatitis C positive and 25 had an STD. Almost 8 were injecting drug users IDU with higher prevalences of HIV, hepatitis B and C compared with non IDU < P 0.001 . The clinic has been successful in providing a health care facility for the specific health needs of this patient cohort.

This chapter covers problems that can occur with sexual health in women. It starts with the definition, assessment, diagnosis, investigations, and treatment of different sorts of vaginal discharge. It provides information about sexual health in context, including its links with other forms of disease and psychological well-being. Protocols for partner notification in the cases of diagnosis with a sexually transmitted disease are explained. The signs, symptoms, and treatment for gonorrhea, chlamydia, and Mycoplasma genitalium are all covered. It also covers the definition, causes, diagnosis, and treatment of pelvic inflammatory disease. Hepatitis B and C are described, along with anogenital warts, genital herpes, and genital lumps and ulcers. Finally HIV and new developments such as PrEP and PEP are covered.

Transfusion transmitted infections are major problem associated with blood transfusion. Accurate estimates of risk of TTIs are essential for monitoring the safety of blood supply and evaluating the efficacy of currently employed screening procedures. The present study was carried out to assess the percentage of voluntary donors and replacement donors and to find out prevalence and changing trends of various TTIs blood donors in recent years. A study was carried out on blood units of voluntary and replacement donors which were collected from January 2008 to December 2012. On screening of 180,371 replacement units, seropositivity of transfusion transmitted disease in replacement donors was 0.15% in HIV, 1.67% in hepatitis B surface antigen, 0.49% in hepatitis C virus, 0.01% in VDRL, and 0.009% in malaria. Of 11,977 voluntary units, seropositivity of transfusion transmitted disease in voluntary donors was 0.08% in HIV, 0.24% in hepatitis B surface antigen, 0.001% in hepatitis C virus, 0.008% in VDRL (sexually transmitted disease), and 0.01% in malaria. From results it has been concluded that prevalence of transfusion transmitted infection (HIV, HBV, HCV, VDRL, and malaria) was more in replacement donors in comparison to voluntary donors. Extensive donor selection and screening procedures will help in improving the blood safety.

A survey was carried out in 2 drug use treatment centres (TCs) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to assess risk behaviours, HIV infection and other sexually transmitted infections/blood-borne infections (STIs/BBIs). Two hundred and twenty-five drug users (195 males and 30 females) were interviewed and clinically examined, and their blood and urine were tested for STIs/BBIs. Prevalences (%) for these infections were as follows - HIV: 0.9, hepatitis B virus (HBV): 14.7, hepatitis C virus (HCV): 5.8, syphilis: 5.3, gonorrhoea/chlamydia (CT/NG): 4.7. In bivariate analyses CT/NG infection was associated with younger age ( P =0.003); current genitourinary symptoms (odds ratio [OR]=6.2) and a mainly illegal source of income (OR= 9.1). Hepatitis C infection was associated with a history of ever having injected any drug (OR=19.6), and with each one of the injected drugs. After multiple logistic regression, lower educational level (adjusted odds ratio [AOR]=3.70) and 'ever having injected drugs' (AOR=3.69) remained as independent risk factors for hepatitis B infection. In conclusion, TCs must implement programmes directed towards the prevention of STIs/BBIs.

Introduction: Blood transfusion plays an vital role in patients management and is live saving in my instances. it plays a pivotal role as a specialized modality of treatment and saves millions of lives worldwide each year and reduces morbidity. Stringent screening of blood not only ensure safe supply of blood and blood products, but also gives us idea about prevalence of ttis among general population Objective: to determine the serroperavalance of tti among blood donors in lalded hospital Materials and methods: A retrospective study was carried out over a period of 3 years from January 2017 to December 2019.serum samples were screened for hepatitis B surface antigen ,antibodies to human immunodeficiency virus Type 1 and 2 ,hepatitis c virus and syphilis in department of transfusion medicine was carried out Result: The result shows that 55 (3.72%) of the blood donors had TTIs. The prevalence of Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Malaria, Syphilis and Human immunodeficiency viruses (HIV), was found to be 31(0.21%), 23 (0.15%), 01 (0.0.006%), 01 (0.006%) and 02 (0.0.23%) respectively. None were positive for malaria. Conclusion: Transfusion Transmittable Infections pose a threat to patients admitted in any health care facility and if not carefully screened for will cause significant morbidity. Careful screening of all donor blood units in the blood bank of a hospital is absolutely necessary to prevent any untoward incidence of TTI in patients admitted to a health care facility Keywords: Transfusion, Sero-Prevalence, Donors, Transfusion Transmissible Infections.
