Localization microscopy offers resolutions down to a single nanometer, but currently requires additional dedicated hardware or fiducial markers to reduce resolution loss from drift of the sample. Drift estimation without fiducial markers is typically implemented using redundant cross correlation (RCC). We show that RCC has sub-optimal precision and bias, which leaves room for improvement. Here, we minimize a bound on the entropy of the obtained localizations to efficiently compute a precise drift estimate. Within practical compute-time constraints, simulations show a 5x improvement in drift estimation precision over the widely used RCC algorithm. The algorithm operates directly on fluorophore localizations and is tested on simulated and experimental datasets in 2D and 3D. An open source implementation is provided, implemented in Python and C++, and can utilize a GPU if available.

Locating the partial discharge (PD) source is one of the most effective means to locate local defects in power cable lines. The sampling rate and the frequency-dependent characteristic of phase velocity have an obvious influence on localization accuracy based on the times of arrival (TOA) evaluation algorithm. In this paper, we present a cross-correlation algorithm based on propagation distance to locate the PD source in cable lines. First, we introduce the basic principle of the cross-correlation function of propagation distance. Then we verify the proposed method through a computer simulation model and investigate the influences of propagation distance, sampling rate, and noise on localization accuracy. Finally, we perform PD location experiments on two 250 m 10 kV XLPE power cables using the oscillation wave test system. The simulation and experiment results indicate that compared with traditional TOA evaluation methods, the proposed method has superior locating precision.

Electrostatic sensor is based on the principle of electrostatic induction. It is widely used for gas/solid two-phase flow measurement because it has the advantages of simple structure, high sensitivity, low cost, etc. In this paper, a velocity measurement system of gas/solid flow based on electrostatic sensor and cross-correlation algorithm is discussed. Electrostatic sensor with circular electrode is adopted. By COMSOL optimum simulation, the axial length of the electrode is designed. The signal conditioning circuits are discussed and cross-correlation algorithm is analyzed. The initial experimental results demonstrate that the velocity measurement system of gas/solid flow designed in this paper is feasible.
